We had the concepts for each design and his team was able to lay out all the design details that would guide the construction. Peter uses experienced craftsmen for the construction so the completed decks, railings and planter boxes were simply exceptional in construction and finish. He prepared a detailed plan for the effort. and tracked his costs to that plan and actually completed the rework of the old deck under cost. I cannot speak more highly of his capabilities in design, construction techniques and quality/appearance of the completed project. Early on we knew Peter was "the go to guy" he understood how to redo the area to provide 43" halls,36" door ways, how to move load bearing walls. We now have two large bedrooms,12' & 8' closets of actual doors. Two large bathrooms, one 6' custom shower, one 12' custom counter & 6' cast iron tub. and new TREX deck. Peter worked so well with all the subcontractors and our hired painter, that we could just enjoy his work. Peter met every milestone and stayed within the the agreed budgets. If you are looking for a great General Contractor, call Peter Lyon! **★★★★★ — cb1166, May 2015** > My wife, Jeanne, and I decided to upgrade our twenty-plus year old townhome located in a toney neighborhood in Almaden Valley, San Jose, Ca. Not knowing where to start, we visiting an upscale plumbing store for ideas. This visit taught us that we knew nothing about current upgrades and that we needed guidance from a professional. The plumbing store owner suggested we contact Peter Lyon, General Contractor. We did. > > When Peter showed up for our first interview, first impressions said it all - slacks, dress shirt, professional appearance. We sat down at the dining room table and gave him our perceived ideas. He sat there patiently and listened. When we had talked ourselves bare, he started. He took our ideas and molded them into exactly what we wanted but only much better. About Two hours later, Peter indicated he had a good idea of what we wanted and asked if he could return with a comprehensive plan in two days to finalize the project. When he left, my wife and I looked at each other and silently nodded in unison. We had found our contractor. > > Upon Peter's return he presented to us his ideas, combined with ours, along with drawings and photos of what to expect - and a bid. He then explained things like the permit process, change orders, lien releases and progress payments. Being as my wife and I had already decided what our budget could afford, we accepted the bid on the spot. Next came the unexpected. Peter informed us he had several projects in process and that the earliest he could start our project was three weeks hence. So be it. > > On the start date, the "demo" crew showed up along with Peter and his working foreman. I might add parenthetically that living in an exclusive gated community and in deference to neighbors, working hours were established to begin no earlier than 8:00am and conclude by 4:30pm - including cleanup. Once Peter introduced us to his foreman, he left. While his foreman was on the job each day, Peter would drop by on occasion to check on progress and to answer questions. > > Initially, we had planned to do a total remodel of the kitchen and both bathrooms - period. However, through Peter's guidance and recommendations, we added some extras. Extras like granite and marble slabs instead of tiles in the bathrooms and kitchen, paneled doors throughout with new hardware with European handles, crown molding, new baseboards and additional light fixtures. O.K., we raised our budget somewhat. > > Finally, our remodel was finished and we had the home we wanted thanks to Peter's businesses infrastructure - a system of organization comprising of reliable employees combined with competent and skilled subcontractors. Would I hire Peter again? Absolutely without reservation. Why, you ask? It goes beyond our satisfaction of a job well done but includes the experience of meeting an exceptional human being. More than acceptable standards of behavior but it also includes moral duty and obligation. It embraces trust built upon character and truth. Thank-you Peter, Mark, and Rick, and crew! > > Well O.K., the window cleaners were sitting on the lawn waiting for their ride….but still, fantastic! > > Having done two major remodels before, we looked for a contractor who knew the business well and could save us money overall by sharing his experience and knowledge to help us to make the right long term decisions. > > For example, we were going to only texture the walls that we had changed (about 1/3 of the walls), but Peter pointed out that our house, which we had just purchased, had three different textures already, and that while we would save money by only texturing the new walls, it would give the house an “uncomfortable feel “ over time, and would “cause tension, because the different textures were fighting each other” and thus lower the value of all the other work we were doing on the house. > We thought we could not afford that extra work, but Peter offered us a reasonable price, and now we have a consistent texture through-out the house that gives us that unified new-house feel we wanted. He was right to suggest we spend the money. > > In order to speed-up the schedule to complete the house before our wedding (!), Peter was very accommodating and allowed me to coordinate some of the additional contract work that needed to be done in parallel. Peter and his crew shared many great suggestions with us as we remodeled the whole house in a transitional style that was consistent with the basic architecture of the 1600 sq. ft. 1975 house. > > Peter was friendly, crisp, decisive, and courteous and we enjoyed working with him and his crew.
