Where is it from please? A: Hi there, it's by Lindsey Adelman :) **Q: Built-In Cabinet in Master Bedroom Alcove?? Yes/No** *(in Polls)* We are in the midst of building a house. Upon entry to the master bedroom - straight ahead- there is a shallow alcove. To the left of it is the Master Suite itself and to the Left is the entrance to the master bathroom. The master bathroom is somewhat short on space and so we are thinking about having a 36"-ish cabinet with three shelves above it built into the "nook". The wall on the left is only 11 3/8" deep and the one on the right is 15 1/2"....which means the cabinet would only be about 10" inches deep. My question is, would this look weird-having such a shallow cabinet? Would it be better, design wise, to do just shelving or to just decorate it with artwork? A: The images got cut off, here are the rest. **Q: NEED HELP DETERMINING CURTAIN ROD LENGTH.** *(in Home Decorating)* I am trying to figure out how wide to make my curtain rod. I’ve been told that 6” past outside window casing on either side is best for curtains to let light in. But not including the width the finials adds, does that 6” take into account the bracket or should I add an additional 1” for bracket, ie 7” on either side? Even though many designers are doing 6” plus on either side not including finial width, is that going to look stupid? Also, when measuring for curtains, how much do you deduct from rod height using rings with loops for hooks? In other words should I measure basically from the bottom of rod or if curtain pleated middle of rod? And do you go to the exact floor measurement or shorter? A: The two fan is more modern and does in fact use less fabric. Ripple fold curtains are even more modern and use even less fabric. It's our go-to curtain style. I wanted to get some input on the cabinet pull color I should go with. Here is a rough design idea of the kitchen. I have stainless steel appliances and satin brass hardware throughout the house. Not sure about the paint color quite yet, I'll make another poll for that probably :) A: Mixing hardware finishes in a space provides visual interest and prevents a room from feeling flat so I would encourage you to avoid trying to match appliances. I agree with @beverlyfladeziner about using a slightly softer blue + taupe colour. Farrow & Ball's Shaded White is a nice soft taupe reference, pic below. And Benjamin Moore can easily match to their colours if you prefer not to use F&B paint. **Q: Which backsplash** *(in Polls)* I have Taj Mahal countertop with Lambswool cabinets. A: A warm white tile would allow the Taj + cabinet colour to stand out even more. Anything too similar in tone will start to blend in and feel a bit murky. It's important to create a hierarchy of materials so the stone doesn't get lost. You could always do a simple tile with a different layout, perhaps a herringbone? See below. Below is an example of what we wouldn't suggest doing - all the tones are too similar and the end result is flat. Hope this helps! **Q: It's time to paint the brick... I think!** *(in Paint)* Good Afternoon, I've been wanting to paint my house for a while now but didn't want to paint the brick. I think the time has come to be done with it. I am really wanting to paint the entire house in Benjamin Moore Ballet White ; and do the in shutters Brandon Beige 977. Will this look nice? thanks in advance A: I think the house could use an update like this! I might select a less yellow white though, to contrast the beige shutters. You can maintain the texture despite painting the brick, of course it changes the aesthetic but it will really brighten up your home, which will allow the greenery to stand out more.
