I'd love some ideas for low maintenance, zone 4 landscaping in planting beds around the house, including some grasses, hydrangeas and a few perennials perhaps. There will be a walk-way from a parking space at the right of the photo, leading up to the front door. The front of the house is full sun. A: Develop a mix of perennial plants **Q: Backyard landscape advice please!** *(in Design Dilemma)* Moved to this house last August and are now getting around to the backyard damage the previous owners left. Would love advice, especially regarding putting in trees/bushes to help deter a dog from jumping low split rail fence HOA requires. The easier the maintenance the better. A: Remove the lawn and replace with an interesting mix of perennials. **Q: Need landscape advice** *(in Design Dilemma)* I'm a new gardener and need some landscaping advice for my home. We have a beautiful Japanese maple and 3 crape myrtles in our yard that make the front of our home feel very lopsided. I tried to make a island bed in the lawn in a attempt to offset but I think it looks strange and out of place. We used to have cherry laurels as fountain plants but I think I need something taller or possibly a trellis or something decorative against the wall. I am planning on moving some of the plants from the island bed and planting grass there. Also planning on ripping out the phlox. Any suggestions would be appreciated I'm a newbie! we are in zone 7.
