## Community Q&A

**Q: Subway tile to ceiling?** *(in Building a Home)*

Tile to ceiling or is it personal preference?
I posted about the ugly tile job around the window and we are having it fixed. Advice and pictures would be great

A: I would definitely continue the tile to the ceiling, just make sure you make the calculations so you don't end up with small cuts at the top and of course, make sure the ceiling is straight.
Personally, I like to tile up to the ceiling on almost all projects I take on as it gives a more high end feel and makes the walls feel higher and more 'open'.

**Q: 1/2 bath to 3/4 bath** *(in Plumbing)*

I have a downstairs 1/2 bathroom that is 72 inches by 59 inches. As a half bath, it is very large, with a lot of unused space. We could definitely use a third shower, so I would like to turn this area into a 2/3 bath, but it would be quite small for that purpose. Expansion would be difficult, and we wouldn't gain much space. I'm trying to picture a way to make this possible.

The current layout is the toilet and pedestal sink are both on the far, 72 inch wall.

A: Nancy's process sounds like a great first step. Try and sketch out the room, keep 30" for the toilet (15" on center from either side) and see how you can 'arrange' everything to your liking.

Also, not sure what area you are in, but I would suggest scheduling a consultation with an interior designer to see what they think and what creative layout ideas they might come up with.

Good luck!

**Q: Kitchen cabinets for 10ft ceiling** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi there! Currently working on a remodel and not sure what to do about our kitchen cabinets. The ceiling height is 10ft - do I take the cabinets to the ceiling or is that too bold of a statement?

A: Hi @paddykk, if you have 10' ceilings I would go with a 21" backsplash to make for more breathing space between the lowers and uppers.
Also, the width of the crown molding depends on the style, you can also go with a 3" molding for a cleaner, more minimal look. It's all personal preference :)
