## Community Q&A

**Q: Pebble-Tec or PebbleSheen? I'm confused!** *(in Landscape Design)*

We are putting in a pool (we have young kids) and have Pebble-Tec in the contract. Our PB is recommending we upgrade to PebbleSheen, which, in this crazy market, will cost us $5,800. Is it worth it to upgrade? Experiences and opinions would be appreciated.

A: PebbleTec uses a larger aggregate than PebbleSheen. I would request samples and feel the differences for yourself. I prefer the feel of the PebbleSheen. However, the pool style can also influence the type used. I would be more inclined to use the PebbleTec on a pool with a lot of natural stone, PebbleSheen on average pools, and even PebbleFina on a more modern/contemporary pool. Hope this helps!

**Q: Ugly exposed aggregate around pool.** *(in Pools & Spas)*

Has anyone every replaced or \*fill in the blank\* their exposed aggregate? I really dislike it a lot. There's about 2' of it around our pool and then just grass. We'd like furniture to be poolside, but right now it kills the grass and causes muddy areas. We are looking into an inexpensive patio fix. It probably can't be our dream fix, but I want to make sure we don't make it worse. I mean, I know the pool is already outdated looking but that's fine. We are currently installing a pool fence since we had a baby, which has brought all this up.

SO, is this expensive to tear out and replace? Pouring a different concrete patio right up to the edge of the exposed aggregate feels like it would look worse and would look so mismatched, but maybe I just need to see examples. I plan to use a lot of plants to help soften transitions between whatever we decide to use...pavers, concrete, or pavers + grass. Currently very overwhelmed!

\*We don't want concrete, pavers, flagstone, etc everywhere. Just in areas where we want furniture. I imagine the rest will be garden and ground cover.

A: The most cost effective option would be to pour some additional concrete for your patio furniture. Then, use spray/cool deck to cover both the old and the new areas.
