They met all my expectations! I had a few changes I wanted to make after the Statement of Work was agreed to, Val and Matt put the changes into motion without any fuss or second thought. They were definitely a pleasure to work with. I always expect some hiccups with contractors, we had none with Need For Build which was a pleasant surprise. Huge respect for their workers too. It reached at least 100° a couple of the days and they still finished the job a day early. They are probably not the cheapest, but then we were willing to pay a bit more for the peace of mind with the all inclusive warranty they offer on material and craftsmanship. And them being licensed and bonded gave us protection as well. He also explained the company's financing options and warranty for the project, which were better than we had gotten from any other quote. While I am happy with the build quality, I chose them over the competition because of their Price Match Guarantee, which it turns out they do not honor. > > When they provide estimates, they give a Base Price and a "First Visit Price" that's 15% off the Base Price. They also guarantee that they will price match a lower estimate AND pay 10% of the difference (in cash) between their price and the matched estimate. A couple days after I signed with Need For Build, I received an estimate that was almost $10k less than their bid, which I then submitted to them for a price match. They proceeded to string me along for two and a half months, dodging several requests for an update, and eventually went quiet on me. > > My takeaway for others: do not trust their sales process, say no to the "First Visit Price", and shop around for other estimates, since their Price Match Guarantee is meaningless and won't be honored. (meaning if you have any issues, call us and we will fix it, no matter what happens) > On top of all the above, they don’t mention in detail what their installation process is for the pavers or the walls. > After calling and talking with them several times, we have found out that they DO NOT install geo-textile, they compact Only Once (1x) and are not using Polymeric Sand but regular joint sand. This is a HUGE deal when you want your driveway to last a lifetime. > > If they were to do your driveway and the wall the correct way, they would be higher priced than us by adding the geo-textile (which separates the dirt from the roadbase), compacting the correct way (4x) and the polymeric sand which allows your driveway to shift a bit without compromising the integrity while parking on it several times a day. > On the wall installation, like on the bid you provided, they wouldn’t give us any information unless we schedule an appointment for a bid. > Which means to us that they can not warranty the wall like we can. > > Like every other industry, there are some that are choosing to cut corners and therefore giving a warranty that doesn’t cover anything and a price that reflects it. > There are also some that will really provide you with a quality product and long years of service backing up their product. > We are here for you for the long run. At any time you have issues, call us, and we will gladly get our service team out to fix any issues, especially since you have sent in your warranty card. > We want you to be "HANDS OFF" when it comes to your home transformation. You paid for it and are too busy to deal with maintenance. > That's our warranty. > > After a very close examination, it is obvious that our products, installation, and warranty are very different than the bid from the company you provided us and therefore, although we would like to see a change in this industry where companies are doing the right processes and would love to match their prices, on this case we would not be able to do so. I cancelled per CSLB requirements within those three days and they still cashed my check. I called them Monday and I was told I would get a return call but never did. I found out Tuesday they cashed my check on Monday. Now I have to pursue getting my money back for a check they should have never cashed. Avi came over, listened attentively to our needs and wishes, and almost instantly created a complete vision of our new outdoor oasis in his mind. For the next 9 months, Avi and his talented crews meticulously executed his plan from computer renderings to completion, adhering to the highest standards in construction and design, adapting to our many requests and changes, solving unanticipated challenges when they arose, and responding immediately to any concerns we raised. Now, an unattractive grassy slope and “patio” cobbled together with unevenly-laid pavers has become an outdoor kitchen, covered patio, firepit area, private spa area, and turf play yard. In addition, we have new stucco, windows, doors, insulation, sewer line – and even a newly tiled fireplace inside. > > It was refreshing to work with a professional contractor who conducts business with integrity, honesty, and transparency. Our contract was written in detail, including clear timelines for progress payments and work to be completed. Change orders were handled the same way. We especially appreciated that nearly everyone that worked on our project is employed by Need For Build, and very little was subcontracted out, ensuring a high quality of workmanship. When there were glitches that need correction, they were handled immediately and without blame. We never heard excuses or blame-shifting. The job site was cleaned daily, the porta-potty was clean and serviced weekly, and materials were delivered on an as-needed basis, so as not to clutter our yard and driveway. We did our recent whole house renovation beginning of 2021 and everyone warned me how much work and stress it was going to be. Honestly overall, amongst all the nightmare stories I’ve heard from friends who has gone through major renovations, I think I was really blessed. Of course no renovation is perfect but it’s how you handle it when issues arise. Most importantly how your project manager handles it when problems arise. Nadir was always attentive and never hesitated to put more resources in order to complete a task - I’ve seen other contractors being cheap about resources and this means prolonged timelines. Nope not Nadir or Need for build. They are super efficient and good with time/planning. We started our remodel Feb 01 2021 and finished in roughly 2 months. I would even say it was 90% done in 1 month but the last month is minor touch ups. We did entire kitchen, 2 bathrooms, floors, etc you name it. Our house was about 1200 sq ft. Their pricing is reasonable/fair and aligns with other contractors around the San Diego area. Sometimes your cheapest quote does not mean stress free. I really wanted this to be stress free and good quality and that is what I got! Nadir and his team (his right hand man is Raniel - who I think is one of the best guys I ever worked with) are like family to us now. We have a huge list of projects we want to do with Need for build and Nadir in the next coming months/years. To my surprise, they were able to start the job soon, and once they started, the crew was able to complete the job quickly.
