I am using secondhand cabinets that I have collected for free. I am sanding and painting them. I came across this pantry cabinet and I love it and think it is very useful. It was not part of my original plan, but I think I would like to use it. Here are my inspiration photos. I worry that the symmetry might be too off. It is not super important to me, but how do you think this looks? Or is there something I could add to the left side to balance it. These are AI photos so the measurements are way off. There will actually be another 15 inch cabinet between the hood and the pantry cabinet. A: Per these pictures, I do prefer the symmety. But if storage is needed you have to factor function into the equation. It does not look bad with the full cabinet, just prefer the symmetry. **Q: kitchen island color woes.** *(in Design Dilemma)* We recently moved into a new townhome with a great kitchen except the color of the island is a big turn off. It’s a medium brown. The rest of the kitchen cabinets are white and the backsplash is white with varying shades of grey. I have and love my kitchen table and chairs but the brown island seems to be throwing everything off. I can’t afford paint the island. It’s $3k based on several estimates. Here are pictures of island , backsplash and my table and chairs. Any suggestions to make this work are appreciated. A: I love the island color which is very current which has surpassed gray in the design world. Perhaps you can change the backsplash which is usually inexpensive, where you can bring in more warm tones to go better with the island. **Q: Recommendation on wall to wall carpet** *(in Home Decorating)* I'm starting early planning for replacing my LR and entry carpet. previously we had a lovely wool loop wall to wall carpet cut and bound to the exact size we needed. id like to replace with same customization. is there reccomendations on brands people would make for me to start looking at? im at a loss as to where to even find quality wool wall to wall anymore. A: Go to a reputable nearby rug store where you can see the brands they have and get receommendations as to quality. **Q: How do I update the kitchen without replacing the cabinets?** *(in Remodeling)* I am hoping for ideas on how to update this kitchen. The cabinets are in good shape, just dated. I welcome suggestions and ideas to do so. I plan on replacing the countertop and backsplash but what color/pattern would work with off white/beige cabinets?Perhaps adding new pulls and knobs would help too. A: Don't guess colors and patterns. If you are keeping the cabinets, then take a door off and go to a nearby tile/stone store where you can then find your countertop and backsplash. **Q: does this room look nice. should I add a headboard m.** *(in Design Dilemma)* It’s going to be a guest room. Thank you? A: Always add a headboard for a finished, cohesive look to a bedroom. It makes a big difference. **Q: How many pendants over our island?** *(in Lighting)* We picked out 10” pendants and have an 8.5’ island how many should we use, 2 or 3? Attached picture of the pendant A: Using these light fixtures, you can use 3 pendants since they are narrow and the clear glass does not take up much visual space.
