He did several projects on my sister’s house in DC and I was incredibly impressed with the results- and I am a picky, artistic perfectionist. He did a 3rd floor renovation, providing unique design/storage solutions, and he also did custom furniture and some wonderful interior design for them. (By the way, the gorgeous results are not even featured on his website or on Houzz.) My sister is now doing a larger scale addition with Patrick, and I’ve been inspired. This week, my husband and I brought Patrick to our suburban Maryland house for a consultation and he spent an exceeding amount of time listening to us, carefully assessing the entire house, and providing thoughtful and valuable feedback- including the ways we can re-purpose our current space, thereby reducing the need for additions and saving us money (which we hadn’t thought possible). He truly cares about his clients - from an artistic, budgetary, and lifestyle standpoint. It is rare to find a human like this. Can’t wait to move forward with our project because I see how exquisitely my sister’s house turned out. It is a real privilege to work with Patrick. He was brought in to work with a contractor I had used previously. I don't have anything but good things to say about the experience. Patrick has an amazing eye for design and made the process effortless. When there was a decision needed, he presented me with options and explanations. He was creative in his use of space and materials. I could not be any happier with the final product and we receive compliments on our office all the time. **★ — anuk22, April 2016** > I met with architect to discuss a large project on my house that included remodeling on all floors, as well to discuss solutions for back yard. Architect responded promptly to my email inquiry and visited my property. Architect seemed quiet and courteous. He provided three references, cost estimates and sample of agreement/contract. After verifying all information provided, following stood out. > (0) Two references seemed from personal friends (for whom the work was done), the third reference seemed "independent". > (1) Delivery design and drawings reportedly took months (~4-6 months or so; references just couldn't be more specific). > (2) Cost estimates (for proposed contract between me and architect) were given without clear delivery schedule (even though delivery times were discussed during initial encounter). > (3) Back yard work (for proposed contract between me and architect) was not included in the cost estimates (reasons unknown). > (4) Contract/agreement was provided which heavily benefited the architect, offering little protection to the owner. I compared contract wording to sample contracts provided by AIA organization on their website. The contract was not clear on what services are being delivered, at what schedule and at what level of quality, and following which design/architecture (zoning) codes (e..g local DC government or some other codes). Furthermore, the contract did not specify what constitutes architect's breech of the agreement and what are the consequences for the architect. Lastly, it seems that the architect owned the drawings, and not the owner (what does the owner pay for then?). > > I met with Architect again to discuss my concerns and though Architect did acknowledge that the contract was written "to protect him", it didn't seem he was open to the idea of making the contract more balanced by establishing responsibilities for the owner AND the architect. I modified the agreement and truly paid attention that the risk and responsibilities are equally shared. I also specified deliverable schedule based on initial discussion. After having emailed him revised version of the contract, I was told that these are comprehensive changes and in the meantime (in about a week) he signed onto 2 (two) other big projects. I never heard back from him again. > > Contract is the most important aspect of any work, because it represents a framework for the work, delivery, schedule(!), quality, guidelines/zone codes followed. Contract also sets out rules on what happens if things go wrong at any stage. > > If the party is unable to put in writing what they promise in words, what is the credibility of such party? If the party does not clearly list the schedule of deliverables and what happens if architect does NOT deliver, what is the credibility level of such an architect? **★★★★★ — Chris Schriever, March 2016** > Having worked with Patrick on two previous projects, we involved him immediately during our new home search. > > Now complete, our expanded rowhouse is entirely new from top to bottom. Patrick's creativity far exceeded our expectations. The floor plan is extremely livable, feels practical and is functionally smarter then we could have imagined. The finishes, fixtures and furnishings are continuously complimented by our guests. > > Patrick is extremely knowledgeable, professional and he exudes integrity. I would highly recommend his services as he is beyond talented. **★★★★★ — charlescgriffin, Feb. 2016** > Patrick rejuvenated our apartment, redesigning 3 bathrooms and the kitchen/living/dining area, inventing built-in shelving for art, and sharpening details in every other room. He found and supervised the contractor, helped select new furniture, and remained on call after it was finished to help with art placement. The construction took place approximately April to August 2013. > > Patrick listened to us describe the problems we wanted fixed in our original apartment, which had great bones but was clothed in developers' standard materials with odd dimensions and wasted space everywhere. He had smart ideas and was able to show us clearly via drawings and by standing in the space what he meant and what it would look like. Almost always he came up with at least 3 alternatives. He gave us multiple ideas for color schemes and materials, but as part of a palette and overall look-and-feel, not bit by bit. He did it with an eye on being reasonable about the cost, which allowed us to do more than we had thought would be possible. > > Patrick combines a great design aesthetic with a real understanding of what it takes to get a project done. His command of sleek modern urban lines and materials is of the moment and pushes a little further. His use of wood, metal, concrete, lighting, and colors is delectable to the eye. > > Occasionally the schedule for our project dragged a bit, but that was a minor issue in the end. Everything was done to a superior standard within a reasonable time frame. We were patient when needed, and it paid off as Patrick really came through with a fantastic rejuvenation of our space that takes my breath away every morning, even now, over two years after it was completed. Patrick did a sensational job. I recommend him without reservation. I sing Patrick's praises!
