What color was used?** *(in Photo Questions)* The exterior of this house is awesome - but I did not see any response to the previous question about paint vs wash. It was their 2017 color of the year **Q: Add interest to front of house** *(in Design Dilemma)* Hi.. we have a recent addition to the front of our house. Looking for any ideas on how to add visual interest to the front. Replacing or painting the siding or trim or garage door is not an option for us. But other things are. Like do we repeat the porch cedar beam look at every peak? Or install decorative craftsman type brackets at the corners and gable? The area above the garage door seems like it could use something. In a few years we will be adding a 2nd story so our house will have similar roof lines and elevations as the two story craftsman in the houzz photo above.. for some reason I couldn't get my house picture included here so I added it in a comment.. thanks for any ideas... ! A: You've got the right idea to add some interest. If your adding a second story, hold off on any investments with the current design. The jewelry needs to be last! **Q: Exterior Stucco Color Selection (trim and body)** *(in Design Dilemma)* Hi everyone, Curious to hear some feedback on our exterior color selections. We recently bought a (beautiful but in need of a lot of love) fixer upper, stucco colonial just outside Boston in a historic neighborhood. I am attaching a couple photos of the exterior. We are keeping the color scope as a light gray or off-white, and we want the distinction between the trim and the body to be subtle. The sample I am posting (behind scaffolding - sorry!) includes only two colors, and they are painted on one window, the inverse of each other (side left has AC 37 on body, ac 38 on trim, and right side has AC 38 on body, and AC 37 on trim). I am having trouble finding photos of light stucco homes with a slightly darker trim , but think it could look really nice and a subtle, interesting, slightly modern without being too weird take on the house. The right version appears more typical to me, and potentially too gray. Curious to hear what you think. Also, shutters or no shutters? I have told architects to hold off ordering them until house gets painted and new roof (restoring a weathering gray slate which was taken down at some point - very excited for that!). Thanks in advance! A: Great examples! **Q: "Dune grass" paint color too green** *(in Design Dilemma)* I got a sample of dune grass paint for my kitchen but i think it's slightly too green. I'm really looking for the perfect color that's a warm grey with a slight green tone. I want to keep it light and not a cold grey. Any ideas on the perfect color? I like light colors I've seen that are hard to tell if it's beige/grey/green. Thank you! A: I like the sample, looks great. Alternatively, try Balboa Mist or Gray Owl by Benjamin Moore **Q: Landscape Advice** *(in Design Dilemma)* We've lived here for 8 years and I need a change. it's just a mess. I would love some suggestions...I want to pull most of it out but no clue what to put it.....keep in mind I live in LA and need drought tolerant plants...gets hot in the summer and the sun comes up in the back so it is shady most of the day....we have a small budget so nothing extravagant...thanks for your help! A: I agree a little thinning would do the trick. Have you considered painting the shutters? A really bright blue green would be pretty.
