> When selecting my new home I really thought I had chosen one of the best builders. I so regret my decision. My one year was up in January 2026. I had my supposedly one year fix last month Feb 2026. This area in Calera is understaffed and doesn’t have a project manager which that in itself says a lot. I felt as if someone from Auburn was sent to fill in just to say we got your one year complete. It is so embarrassing on a brand new built home to have a shoddy, bubbled paint job done. From the front all through the house where they touched up looks a mess! It’s only been one year and this is such a huge disappointment in quality and excellence. The paint job looks worse than it did before they came out.

> I can’t say enough good things about the service we have received with Holland Homes. We bought our home in Auburn a year ago. When we have had an issue, the service has been stellar. Always contacted back quickly and their service timely. When our heating unit went out on the night of the 17th, we contacted the emergency number and within minutes got a call back. At 9:30 at night we didn’t expect to not only get a callback they sent out an electrician and got our heat back up and running. It was such a blessing with sub freezing temperatures and it was very cold inside with our grandchildren there. Matthew Vaughn as well as the rest of the service crew is very professional and will take care of you.

> Holland Homes does quality amazing work. We enjoyed working with them and love our home. We could not be happier!

**★ — C B, July 2018**

> I really wish I had a better review to leave for this company... in the end I cannot in good conscious recommend them to anyone I know and care about because of their gross disregard for their clients. Their ability to provide decent customer service is extremely lacking (complaining when would would send them notice of poor workmanship by their subs, arguing extensively with us when we (kindly!) questioned why something wasn't done properly, etc) and in the end, they could not provide receipts of items purchased and labor completed for the project as they promised us on multiple occasions in the beginning. We are happy with the final outcome, but it required a LOT of extra trips by subcontractors to come and fix repeated poor workmanship- and that was really frustrating and exhausting. I would never use them again and wouldn't want anyone who wants a straightforward, well executed project to use them either.

**Comment from Holland Homes LLC:**

> We're disappointed to hear that our client had a poor experience with us. I reached out to Mrs. Bean by phone to discuss her concerns and try to resolve them but she dismissed the call and followed up with an email saying that she was too upset to discuss it over the phone.
>
>
> We agree that the project turned out amazing. Everything this client asked for was completed in a satisfactory manor and on time. We love these custom remodel projects, especially on older houses. More importantly, we love building relationships with homeowners in the community. The people are why we do what we do and that is why this review saddens us so much.
>
> We did this job "cost plus," meaning that the client would be charged for labor and materials plus a margin on top. We communicated from the very beginning that they were wanting a lot of work done to a really old house, and advised that it was possible to get within their budget only if there was a conscious effort to stay within the scope and finishes suggested. The client came down for a selection meeting and chose to upgrade the windows, a $9K upgrade right off the bat. There were several decisions throughout the process that were similar in that they were given several options that would either reduce the estimated price or stay in line with the estimated cost, but they elected to spend over their initial budget.
>
> As far as not being able to provide receipts, that is not at all accurate. In fact, this client was given the opportunity to come to the office and go through their entire file to essentially audit us and the job. They chose not to take us up on this offer because they didn't want to agree to accept any additional charges if there was an error in their favor where they were initially undercharged. That is how a "cost plus" job works - we bill for the work that is preformed, nothing more, nothing less. The unfortunate thing about this situation is that our client has a house that is something to be proud of, done by a contractor who cares and charges as fairly as any project can be billed.
>
> I have to believe that the problems this homeowner had with us stemmed from the fact that they chose to go over budget on their project. We had warned them about cost throughout the process and had very little issues with the job until it came time to pay. They lived in the house for over 6 weeks without paying us the final draw of over $60k (over 1/3 of the total). When they first moved in (on time), they were in love with the project. It wasn't until they had to pay that they had an issue.
>
> In the end, these are exactly the types of projects we excel in and we've had had great success and customer satisfaction throughout the years.

**★★ — J J, June 2017**

> They did a good job on the project, however I feel they over charged for the work they completed. I beat my self up every time I think about the cost. 19,000 to fix a leaky fireplace and remove a cover over my deck. I should have taken more estimates. I hope they did not take advantage of me for being a widower.

**Comment from Holland Homes LLC:**

> Hello JJ,
>
> Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We're glad that you feel we did a good job on the project. We never want any of our customers to feel that they have been treated unfairly or overcharged. We are confident that the work was done at a fair rate and was agreed upon prior to completion.

> Holland Homes is an Auburn, Ala.-based residential construction company focused on bringing clients the highest quality work for the lowest price possible. Owner Daniel Holland and his associate Robert Melvin are knowledgable, pleasant to work with and focused on the customer. Their custom homes are striking and spacious, with obvious thought given to every detail, and their renovation work is second-to-none. Even the most lackluster home on the block will turn heads with help from Holland Homes. If you're looking for a home builder with a reputation of trustworthiness and exceptional workmanship, you've found the right one.

> My wife and I bought a residential lot and pre-construction home in the Stone Creek Subdivision from Holland Homes. We were first time homebuyers so we were somewhat nervous about the experience. To say that Daniel Holland and Robert Melvin made the experience a "walk in the park" would be an understatement. From the signing of the contract to the closing on our finished home, Daniel and Robert managed our project flawlessly. Daniel and Robert were always professional, open, and honest with the scheduling and progression of our home. They were constantly available for all of our "first time homebuyer" questions. My wife and I requested a few changes/additions to our home that Daniel and Robert were able to accomodate with no problems at all. Prior to hiring Holland Homes, my wife and I researched several other home builders/contractors in the Auburn area. We decided that Holland Homes' reputation was what we were looking for and it was the best decision we could have made. In the end, Holland Homes built our quality home and we could not be any happier with the results. I would highly recommend Holland Homes for any home building or remodeling work.

**★★★★★ — User, Nov. 2014**

> We hired Daniel Holland and his very capable team at Holland Homes to complete work started by another contractor who failed miserably on the job. We were enclosing a large sunroom attached to our $1MM+ home in Auburn and looked high and low for a qualified and reputable local home remodeling contractor who had a strong record of previous achievement and would pay special attention to the finer details and finishes. We found these and many other exceptional skills and craftsmanship in the team at Holland Homes. From the estimate through completion, Daniel and Robert and their team went above and beyond our expectations with my only regret being that I did not hire them first and eliminate all of the frustration and rancor we experienced with the first inept contractor. The job turned out to be a picture out of Southern Living. They showed up every day, communicated with us open and honestly and they worked through every detail to make sure we were completely satisfied. I would strongly recommend Holland Homes LLC from building a low to high end home to any remodeling job small or large.
