### Reviews

**★★★★★ — VintageView, July 2026**

> As the creators of the original label-forward metal wine racking system, our team at VintageView has had the pleasure of collaborating with Vigilant Inc. for many years. We proudly consider them one of our elite Signature Plus partners (the 1 percenters!!).
>
> What makes Vigilant stand out in the wine cellar industry is their uncompromising craftsmanship and their ability to bridge different design styles. They do a phenomenal job of integrating our modern metal racking into their beautiful, handcrafted wood cabinetry. The result is always a stunning, transitional space that functions perfectly.
>
> Over our years of working together, we have seen them execute flawlessly across the board. Whether they are engineering an intimate, climate-controlled residential cellar for a private homeowner or designing a massive, high-capacity display for a commercial hospitality project, their attention to detail never wavers. They understand the structural and environmental demands of wine storage better than almost anyone in the business.
>
> If you are a homeowner, architect, or general contractor looking for a true design-build partner who will get your wine room right the first time, we cannot recommend Vigilant highly enough. They are true professionals from the initial 3D design to the final installation.

> Zero stars! We purchase 2 tall 3 tier black wine racks. One of the wine racks came damaged and split. We waited 4 weeks and were very disappointed. We couldn't put this together, especially for the holidays coming up.We wanted it replaced. We did not pay this much money to have a damage wine rack. Both these racks already had little knicks and dents in them. After going back and forth , the team decided that I should be able to fix this with glue and clamps, and they'll walk me through it.
> We don't have the woods skills or tools for this. My husband is going in for major surgery soon.
> We have never dealt with a company that is so unprofessional.

**★★★★★ — skeetz, Dec. 2021**

> We had a great experience with Vigilant and their product design and service teams. From start to finish they were easy to work with, their racks are high quality and look great and their customer service was super helpful. As a DIY project, we had questions before, during and after we selected, received and began to build our racks and cabinets and the Vigilant service team treated us with professional support throughout.
>
> The racks and cabinets are made from high quality materials and the pre-cuts and pre-drills were all spot-on. We did receive one damaged rack ladder in our initial shipment and Vigilant had a replacement to us within a couple days. Lastly, while we purchased our cooling system direct from the manufacturer, Vigilant was very helpful with sizing and proper design placement; their on-line design tools was also very helpful and easy to use in designing our new wine cellar.
>
> I highly recommend Vigilant for wine racks, cabinets and other related materials.

> I ordered an in wall cigar humidor quite a while ago. It was a time sensitive gift and still to this day I have not even received a shipping tracking number. It has been hard to communicate with this company. I have asked questions and the last thing I heard was “I wanted to let you know that I am working with the head of production on this. I don’t have an answer yet, but I expect to have something shortly.” That was a month ago. I was interest in having a custom walk in humidor built but this is out of the door. This entire experience has been less than sub par. And yet I am still out of a few thousand dollars and still have no product

**★★ — Darius Yekta, Dec. 2018**

> Ordered a custom rack and wine cellar door as well as a cooling unit. Very difficult to communicate with this company. They will give you ship dates that are unrealistic and then when you try to inquire over the phone they won't call you back. They seem to enjoy email better. Even when I tried to get an answer about my door I basically got a "we are very sorry we are still working on it" answer. It's a bummer because you give your contractor their lead times and ship dates and they don't deliver. This company will hold up your project. I like the product although its a bit pricey for what it is so do yourself a favor and shop around. I can't speak for the door yet because I have not received mine. I was planning a bigger project with them and this was a "test". They blew it.

**Comment from Vigilant Inc.:**

> Hi Darius,
> We are very sorry to hear that you had a poor experience with us. We are currently experiencing higher lead times than normal and apologize for not getting accurate delivery timing to you and your contractors. In lieu of the late delivery we would like to fully reimburse you for the shipping cost of the door and hope that this will help remedy the situation. We really appreciate your feedback and your business and hope you'll consider Vigilant for your larger project.

> My wife & I decided to downsize just over a year ago. As we designed and built our dream home we decided to add to that dream by adding a custom wine cellar. But all we new was the space we had to work with and some general ideas of what we wanted. After searching various options for someone to help us it became clear that Vigilant stood out from all other options. We reached out to them in January 2108 as we were still building and discussed what are desires were, the space we had and our timeline. From that point on they were an absolute joy to work with. The were creative and flexible in the initial design discussions, patient in knowing we had a long timeline (fall of 2018 before we would be ready to actually order), professional and responsive to our questions and last minute changes. When it came time to order I had grand ideas of staining and varnishing myself to save a few $$'s however Lisa encouraged me that was not something I would want to tackle and was able to sharpened her pencil to make it a little more affordable. Best decision ever! We now have our dream home and Dream Wine Cellar done! It is absolutely stunning and is now the center piece of our downstairs rec room. I would recommend Vigilant without hesitation for those desiring to add a wine cellar to their home. Even if its just an idea or vision (large or small) Vigilant will help bring it to life!
> Thank you Vigilant and especially to Lisa Pinault.

> Thanks for sharing your experience with us! We're so glad you're able to enjoy your dream wine cellar and house! The final results look great!

**★★★★★ — Tim Campbell, Sept. 2018**

> Ordered a custom in-wall humidor for my in-home cigar room. The fit and finish is "furniture quality". I couldn't be happier. It's absolutely beautiful.

**Comment from Vigilant Inc.:**

> Thanks for the kind words Tim! We're so glad to hear you're happy with the results. The cigar room looks awesome!

**★★★★★ — HU-763584494104, June 2018**

> \# 1 on my bucket list. Our cellar is complete and is absolutely beautiful! The quality and service Vigilant provided was excellent. This is our second cellar but the first time we used Vigilant. Aside from the WOW factor, the mahogany racks were precise and very well made. Our installer was really impressed with the quality. I couldn’t be more pleased! Thank you Team Vigilant.

**Comment from Vigilant Inc.:**

> Thank you for the kind words! We're so glad to hear you had a such positive experience with us! We hope you enjoy the wine cellar for years to come!

**★★★★★ — Doug McNeel, March 2018**

> My experience with Vigilant was fantastic. We had doors and racks made, and the quality of the materials and workmanship was superb. Everything was exactly as specified. The end result for our DIY basement wine cellar project exceeded our expectations. Great to see an American company with such quality.

**★★★★★ — Mike Bilder, July 2017**

> A few trips to Napa and a few wine clubs later and we quickly outgrew our wine fridge. We decided to modify an unused corner of our finished basement and build a custom wine cellar. Vigilant was extremely helpful in working up a few design options for our limited space. It was a fun DIY project that is now a beautiful focal point in our basement. Vigilant's racking, trim, and custom doors are extremely high quality. I highly recommend the company for their outstanding service and product quality.

**★★★★★ — Geoffrey Lester, July 2017**

> Vigilant nicely accommodated our very specific and detailed wine cellar design. The end result installed well and looked terrific. Our client was quite pleased with the outcome.

**★★★ — Chris B, April 2017**

> The true test of a professional is what happens when things go wrong. In this respect, Vigilant failed.
>
> I hired Vigilant to design and construct a small custom wine cellar.
>
> The design was completed and after patiently waiting out the 6 week lead time, my shipment arrived damaged and missing parts. I can only assume that Vigilant forgot to manufacture these parts; I asked what happened, but received no explanation. They did, however, promise to make the parts and ship them as quickly as possible.
>
> Unfortunately, they shipped the missing parts freight and they also arrived damaged. While they tried to place the blame no the carrier, it was easy to see that the packing was insufficient.
>
> For this I received nothing more than an apology. Given the time wasted waiting for missing parts to be made and the extra expense of having my installer fix the damaged parts, I cannot recommend Vigilant.
>
> \*\*\* UPDATE \*\*\*
>
> The owner of Vigilant called me to discuss my issues and we spoke at length. While my review no doubt prompted this, I nonetheless appreciate the efforts put forth by Vigilant to take my feedback constructively. As such, I've changed my review from 1 stars to 3 stars and would give Vigilant another shot in the future should the need arise.

**Comment from Vigilant Inc.:**

> Hi Chris,
>
> We are sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience. We really appreciate your feedback and, although you have communicated that it is too late to fix this for you, we hope you allow us the opportunity to make this right. Our customer service team has been made aware of the issue and will be in touch to remedy your experience. Our service and shipping teams have also been notified of these issues to ensure they do not occur again. Thanks again for your feedback and we look forward to working with you to come to a resolution.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Family room** *(in Photo Questions)*

Family room is dark. So I am planning on painting the walls a pale gray, sofa is a medium gray. Floor is a dark plank snap in wood looking floor.
Floor has Browns with a worn look shades of grays tans.
My throw pillows have large water color painted looking flowers in aqua lime green and navy. Been looking at Area rugs, getting more confused. Also coffe tables should the tables be a lighter color? I was thinking a worn look, and art work ? But the area rug it should be lighter than floor, but what colors?
I thought I could maybe change throw pillows sometimes in different colors. So now what?
Mary

A: Hi Mary,
That sounds like a beautiful room. However, we're actually custom wine cabinet and wine cellar manufactures not interior designers. If you're interested in more details on our wine storage offerings I would be happy to assist you.

Cheers and good luck with the room!
-The Vigilant Team

**Q: WINE ROOM DIMENSIONS** *(in Photo Questions)*

LOVE THIS VERY FUNCTIONAL WINE ROOM. MAY I KNOW THE DIMENSIONS OF EACH WALL AND THE DEPTH OF THE SIDE CABINETS?

A: Hi Julia, thanks for the kind words! This was a project we were very proud of, the room dimensions are 13' 10 3/4'' by 9'. The cabinets are 16'' deep. Please let us know if you have any additional questions or you can email us directly at info@vigilantinc.com.

**Q: what are the dimensions of the wine cabinet?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I am very interested in this cabinet with the mix of wood and glass. We have an open wall of 10 feet in length and are evaluating options for a wine cabinet that is no more than 8 feet wide and slim depth (24 -30 inches).
Would you provide the cabinet dimensions of the custom cabinet shown? What is the approximate cost for the cabinet?

A: Hi Ann,
You’re very
welcome, we are happy to help!

The dimensions
of the pictured cabinet are as follows:
Total height
(from floor to top of cooling system enclosure): 122 inches
The door (from
floor to bottom of cooling system enclosure): 94 inches
The cooling
system enclosure: 28 inches
Cooling system
to total height ratio: just under a quarter of the total height
For more
perspective, the ceiling height of that space is 122.25, giving it a quarter
inch clearance from the ceiling.
The dimensions
of our standard refrigerated wine cabinets with the top mounted cooling system:
Total height
(from floor to top of cooling system enclosure): 96 inches
The door (from
floor to bottom of cooling system enclosure): 78 inches
The cooling
system enclosure: 18 inches
Cooling system
to total height ratio: just under a fifth of the total height
We could easily
increase the height of the enclosure for the cooling system (opposed to
increasing the height of the cabinet itself) to achieve the same ratio as the
pictured cabinet, however you would end up with a larger gap between the top of
the cooling system and your ceiling than in the pictured cabinet. We do also
offer full customization, so can customize the size to perfectly suit your
space and preferred ratio as the client did with the cabinet pictured above. All
of our cabinets are built-to-order by hand and we have full customization capabilities,
so we really can design and build a cabinet that works for you and your space.
Hope this helps
and please feel free to ask more questions. Also, if you would like to be in
touch with our sales team who might be able to be of more help, let me know and
I can get them up to speed so you do not have to repeat your questions to them.
Thanks again
for your interest!

Kind regards,
The Team at
Vigilant

**Q: Can you please provide the dimensions of this wine room?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Hi aleifeste and thanks for your question. This small wine room is 9' w x 11' d x 7'h. Let us know if you have any other questions.

**Q: Glass wall** *(in Photo Questions)*

What type of glass and seals did you use to maintain climate control in the cellar? Would you recommend a glass wall in comparison to full exterior doors? Thanks!

A: Thank you for your inquiry and interest in our wine cellar project! The glass walls shown in the image were installed by the client's local glass company. The issue with frameless glass is that it is not insulated and frameless glass doors do not provide a tight seal, allowing air to escape from the cellar. This can cause condensation to form on the glass and the system to work harder to maintain the cool temperature in the space.
We prefer to install a series of insulated glass panels/doors to provide the view into the cellar while ensuring a higher R-value and a properly sealed door.

**Q: Wine cooler** *(in Photo Questions)*

What brand and style of wine cooler is this?

A: Hi. Unfortunately the small wine cooler was not part of this Vigilant custom wine cellar. The customer already had the cooler and wanted us to work it into the wine cellar design. When we provide small wine coolers as part of our wine cellar design, we build a wood overlay for the front of the cooler to match the wine cellar racking. However, it was probably an LG or Marvel wine cooler. Hope this helps!
