## Community Q&A

**Q: Space for kitchen island?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am in the process of having house plans drawn, and I am told 37" on all sides is enough room for a work island without seating. I don't want to overcrowd the space. Advise, please. Lucretia

A: I'm not an interior designer but I wouldn't want only 37" on each side if it were 3 sides or more. 2 sides at that length is okay but anymore than that would make me feel crowded.

**Q: Help updating '90's kitchen** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Although not my first style choice, cupboards are like new, little used and staying. Plan to update with countertops, appliances and paint. Coming from a log home with somewhat mission-style tastes ~ beginning new life chapter as a widow. Suggestions most welcome! Thanks!

A: Jane don't let them confuse you about the price of quartz. sure you can easily spend thousands of dollars but realistically I could help you find a color and style of quartz or granite that you would love and could be a reasonable price. Don't get formica. judging by the size of your kitchen in the photo I bet I could do your kitchen for about 2,600 give or take. Not matter what you choose you will be spending money on this project, I just want to make sure you understand all your options so you can make an informed decision.

**Q: What type and color of countertop?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I am putting in cabinets and a bar in my basement. I would like to use the barn siding to line the outside of the bar and as backsplash above the sink area that is adjacent to the bar. The walls are light grey. I have in the picture my thoughts of espresso cabinets and flooring. The living area of the basement has light carpet. What color and type of countertops would work?

A: We are located in Vineyard with a large selection of colors and brands of quartz. you are more than welcome to stop by and take a look, you can also take a piece home to compare it with your kitchen. If you don't have time to go looking for the right color, I would be more than happy to bring a bunch of samples to your home.

**Q: countertop and backsplash ideas** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are in the middle of renovation the kitchen and we haven't made any final decisions on countertop or backsplash.
I know I don't want a white top or backsplash. We really like the subway tiles or glass mosaic. And I've been attracted to the grey hues.

My concern is regarding the openness to the"great room" and how much it has to coordinate with the more brown colours we've got going on.

A: White would be the typical answer but it sounds like you are interested in something a little more unique. I would prefer the marble look over the typical granite. Quartz has become quite popular, I would suggest going to a slab yard or quartz display and just look for what you find most appealing and then compare it to your kitchen.

**Q: Symphony Grey by Caesarstone** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Has anyone had this installed? Been looking for pictures and options on here and not finding much. Thanks!!

A: I personally haven't seen it installed but I love the color. what color are your cabinets and floors?
