Spazio's crews are focused on mid to higher end remodels and it shows in terms of quality and attitude towards the work. Any issues that arose on the project were promptly dealt with. Of course, there were some small issues with plumbing/electrical functionality. Knowing what I know now, I'll take the blame and admit I did not check the work thoroughly nor connect with the company to stay on it. > > Specifically, team they sent out failed to install my kitchen plumbing with quality as I was left with a faulty garbage disposal from the end of the project to now. The continued electrical issues caused me huge frustration as my garbage disposal continued to short, from an electrical sense. Secondly, the plumbing failed to install the proper angle stops to ensure I have hot AND cold water from my faucet. Since the completion of install, I had been left with kitchen plumbing that left me frustrated with a decision to make. I made the call to finally replace the garbage disposal, some electrical, and the correct plumbing for things to work as I designed and built with the team. > > I now know that I should have called the company directly to come out and check out/fix my issues. Our project manager was Shay and are very impressed with him. He was always available when we needed to talk with him via phone or in person. His responses to our question were very timely and very satisfactory. He was very well organized to manage the construction schedule. We had frequent in person meetings to go over the work each week. Although our remodel took place in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic from January 2021 to September 2021, Shay managed to complete the remodel work within our expected time framework. Due to COVID-19, labor shortage and supply chain issues, the work could go longer than 9 month but he was able to finish by the end of September 2021 by a very good construction management . When work quality did not meet Spazio’s standards, Shay did all necessary rework at their costs. Shay and Sapzio took full responsibility of completing our remodel work till the end. > > Only one thing we did not like was workers did not timely clean trash and it accumulated at certain times. One did fantastic work, but when it came time for a big project, he was unavailable. (The small guys that are good are in high demand.) The 2nd did the biggest remodeling job...and it did not go well. Workmanship was sub-par for the price and a real headache. (They have a 5 start rating on Houzz btw). Spazio (and Gonzalo), was our third...and the by the time you get to a third job, you've learned a bit about how contractors work, the quality of the materials they use, and the workmanship that makes a difference. Remodeling is all about the subcontractors and how good they are, and how well they are scheduled. Gonzalo paid attention to all the crazy details of our bathroom even more then we did...which is saying something. My only regret with Spazio is that they didn't do the other, larger job. Their workmanship is very good. They way they structure their bids I think make more sense. You are mostly paying for the work, not for a contractor to get deals with their buddies to make more money under the table. You buy the things directly that matter to you. Though, they have realtionships with companies (including their own higher end tile store and Ferguson in Pasadena to help get you deals on whatever you want, while providing guidance.) The work, design and material is higher end than other contractors. They do things right. (For example, they ripped out and meshed the walls to install tile...our other contractor just put tile of the wall that was there.) At the end of the day, the end cost is comparable, even competitive to other construction firms. Contractors are like real estate agents...10% of them are really good. The rest are a crapshoot. Spazio LA. Well, let's just say that our little idea of a closet became something much, much more. > > When we first met Essi and David, of Spazio, we clicked almost immediately. The vibes were good! Essi was talking to us about the scope of the work and David was listening until he wandered away for a bit. We kept discussing things with Essi and then David returned only to say that he knew what the plan was going to be. So, we listened, and were simply blown away with his vision and plan for our home. The estimate for the job was very reasonable and after they left my wife and I knew that we were going forward with Essi and David. I also want to mention that Essi and David were never, ever pushy about anything, and always respected our decisions. Any decision made was our own. They always stayed very professional and diplomatic throughout the entire process. I was there to let them in, and tell them what needed to be done, at times only being able to reach her via text message. > > Then, when I was visibly stressing about the project's issues and stalling out at the very end, I decided to remove myself from the house to clear my head. She sensed this and texted me, specifically asking me to "air my grievances". When I voiced the concerns mentioned above, I was met with differed blame. All of my grievances were discussed via text message, and they spelled out the facts and issues that had arisen in the past two days and generally expressed that I found one of their vendors (the one we were waiting on to arrive and complete the project) extremely unreliable. While I was offered apologies for the inconvenience and for having to deal with this, there was, I felt, no acceptance or understanding that things could have been handled better by Spazio in those final days. It was, after all, not my responsibility to deal with the contractors directly. Things got even worse the last day of the install, when she accused me of "verbal abusing" her to my husband (her other client!) based off of the solicited "grievances" she had requested, refused to deal with me at all - not in person, via text or phone call- and actually made my husband drive home from work to deal with the final details. > > It was a shame that the project ended on such a sour note but all that being said, it hasn't stopped us from enjoying our new bathroom. > > EDIT: Spazio did reach out after my initial review. The owner was appalled at the sequence of events leading up to this communication breakdown and offered to make it right. They have since said that they will not work the the contractor whom I found so difficult to work with. The designer/project manager has since apologized for her actions. So our initial anticipated time for our full remodel (about 1950 sq ft.) was about 8-9 months, but they actually finish about 1.5 months early. We were thankful for all their hard work. After living in our remodeled home for nearly 3 weeks we've encountered leakage from our water heater and one of the vanity sink.
