**★★ — Joe Customer, Nov. 2019**

> Design work was good, and so was the workmanship on custom items. Numerous delays and repeated broken promises were extremely frustrating. Failure to address simple issues like lack of hot water for weeks was annoying. A subcontractor calling me and demanding payment because the general contractor did not pay him was unprofessional. Towards the end, I bought my own materials to finish the last parts of the job. For the amount I paid, there are definitely better options.

> Ken expeditiously assessed, estimated, and completed our project. He himself has a remarkably wide range of skills and knowledge, and he is great to communicate and work with. His crew is also skilled, seasoned, efficient, and personable.

**Comment from 415 design+build:**

> Thank you so much, Karen! We are so happy to have worked with you. Enjoy :)

## Community Q&A

**Q: Blending different wood shades** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi Folks! We just bought a rental unit and I cannot wait to get to work on it! The cabinets in the photo are staying (for now!) and I need advice on maybe (a) whitewashing that support beam and (b) what colors I should use for the laminate wood floors we will be installing to tie in all of the different shades :/ Its a beach rental so leaning towards coastal (think white wash, driftwood and light/airy everything). Has anyone had experience whitewashing beams like this? They are a bit more orangey in person and I am assuming its stain? The wood railings going up the stairs are a slightly different color too so any advice there would be very helpful! Basically all DIY as we are trying to keep costs down!!!
Thank You

A: Maybe something like this? That way you cover all of your bases in the realm of changes. As for the whitewashing, have the whiteash tinted sliiighly purple to counteract any orangey tones you have.

**Q: Help with ideas to hide bathroom pipes?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi, Tomorrow I will be closing on a very cute house with a very non-cute pipe issue in the downstairs bathroom. I can only imagine what led to it being left like this, but I'm looking for ideas to solve the eyesore. Any advice? I am relatively handy, but am willing to go to great lengths to solve this issue (i.e. hiring outside help) if anyone has a good idea. Also, for what it's worth, I am planning to completely renovate this bathroom, remove the washing machine, utility sink, etc. Thanks in advance!

A: I once lived in an illegal basement unit, complete with furnace in my "living room." I hung twinkle lights from it, lol.
I feel your quirk pain!
Best of luck and looking forward to an update :)

**Q: Help need w/paint color in kitchen --putting house on market** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I need an uplifting neutral color in my kitchen to go with cabinets that are BM Cloud White, Namibia Green granite, back-splash is Smoke (a grey/green), adjacent room is a depressing grey green and a 2 story hallway in Golden Straw we are hoping to not tackle -- help! I just tried samples of French Canvas, and White Dove to try to brighten up my space. They are just not right. HELP if you can, please.

A: I like to do white walls when white cabs are involved. doing a contrasting color has a way of breaking up the space too much, imo.
Good luck with the selling!

**Q: Continued tile concerns!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

45,000 dollar tiny bathroom remodel. Does this alignment seem ok for high end remodel?

A: in re: to your header, is this acceptable for a high end remodel

**Q: need front door color - house going on market soon** *(in Design Dilemma)*

This is our little house in Portland, OR. It's going on the market in a few days and we are trying to choose a door color. Suggestions so far are Peacock Blue SW0064 or some kind of green. I don't like red with this blue and my husband has overruled yellow. Any input is appreciated!

A: I love the golden beach, or sweet pea!
