## Community Q&A

**Q: Do pocket doors provide sound privacy fir bathrooms?** *(in Bathrooms)*

I notice lots of folks have used pocket doors for their bathroom remodels and was wondering if I could get some insight in to how much sound privacy they provide.

We're looking at one for a guest bathroom on the first floor. It'll be in a space that lies between the eating area and foyer. One wall will be towards the eating area and entrance from the opening towards the foyer. It's not a big space either - 6\*6 perhaps at most. I'll come back with exacts in a bit. Anyway, point being that we'd rather not hear anyone's business whilst at the table. 
Hope to get some good feedback as we really need to use all the space.

A: If you do go with a swing door, there are acoustical panels which you can purchase to attach to the back of the door.  They will dampen the sound quite a bit.  I don't think you'd be able to use them on a pocket door, though, due to the thickness of the door and width of the wall opening.  
I have this same problem with a bathroom located right off my family room.  Even with the fan on, you can hear the sounds from the bathroom.  Ick.  I've been considering the acoustical panels, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

**Q: Do we need a shower door?** *(in Bathrooms)*

Hi all,
This is my first post on Houzz. We just finished the tiles in our master bath shower and are about to order frameless shower glass for it. Here is a picture of our shower (the bathroom still needs more work painting the wall etc.).
The total width is 70" and the pony wall is 40 3/8" wide. We're debating if we should just get a fixed panel on the pony wall or get both the fixed panel and a door. Can you please give us some advises or comments?

A: I don't believe you "need" a door in this space.  You should have plenty of clearance to shower there without splashing, etc, into the bathroom.  But many people find the lack of door uncomfortable, exposed, and cold.  Once your plumbing is finished you can test out how you feel about this by hanging a clear vinyl shower curtain on a tension rod (so it's temporary).  Try showering with it only half-way closed, and see if you like it or not.  Hth!

**Q: Help! new Kohler Underscore BubbleMassage tub came leaking twice :(** *(in Bathrooms)*

My husband and I splurged and got the $4000+ Kohler Underscore tub with BubbleMassage + VibrAcoustic. However the tub arrived with leaks. Kohler agreed to send a new tub, but the second tub came leaking also!
After talking to local supplier and Kohler multiple times, we can only get credits to another Kohler tub but no refund. 
At this point, our options are:
1\) Order the exact same tub for the third time, hoping this is not a manufacturer issue that will cause the third tub to leak on arrival or shortly after.
2\) Exchange the tub to Kallista Small Perfect tub with BubbleMassage. This will require redo the plumbing and framing already done for the 60 x 30 x 19 Underscore to 60 x 32 x 22 Kallista.
3\) Continue to talk to Kohler or the local supplier into giving us a refund... somehow.
Anyone has experience with the Kallista or Kohler tub mentioned? What would you do in our shoes?

**Q: Are Plastic/Fiberglass Bathtub Surrounds "Cheap" Looking?** *(in Bathrooms)*

I'd like to read your thoughts on tub surrounds. I'd love to not have to clean grout again in my bathroom, which has a tub shower.
I love the look of tile, but am pretty sure we'll be sticking with a shower curtain which would obstruct the view anyway. Also, our bathroom is very small and the impact wouldn't be great.
In wanting a simple, limited to no-grout surround, I'm considering just getting a nice plastic 3-piece. I've looked at the Kohler Choreograph but don't want to spend that kind of money, although I love it.

A: Thanks HB!  I went to the Kohler store last week and looked at the sample chips.  I like the way it looks, kind of like porcelain. Anyway I ordered it.  Crossing my fingers it will look good installed and DH will like it as well (he didn't get to see the sample). 
Mimipadv, it's funny but white tile is kind of outside my comfort zone! I generally prefer color. But we're going to do white tile, mix of square and subway, with an iridescent glass accent.  We fell in love with Saturnia Gold granite, which is black with lots of mica and gold specks, so we wanted to have a simple backdrop that would show off the granite.  Good luck with your project!

**Q: Kohler Choreograph?** *(in Bathrooms)*

So we are planning on adding a tiny master bathroom to our home. Hubby is dead set against tile and in looking for alternatives, I have found Kohler Choreograph. Has anyone seen or used this product? Looks promising, but am hesitant to try it since it is so new and fairly pricey. I would prefer to use tile, but hubby is sick of grout, so this maybe a compromise to acrylic/fiberglass unit.

A: @nancyinmich, I really like how your transolid bath came out.  Out of curiosity, how was the cost as compared to choreograph?  I'm thinking of spec-ing the transolid for a client, but no one around here seems to know much about it.

Also, I just re-read your post from months ago about THS.  I also found them around 2003, while starting a kitchen reno.  What a fabulous community...all these years later it's still great and so helpful.  And I agree that Houzz doesn't make the most of the knowledge that's here.
