> I didn't feel comfortable picking out exterior house paint without some professional assistance. Juli was affordable, friendly, and comfortable. She not only spent time working with me face-to-face but also took out the time to brainstorm with me via email. I am very happy with the results and highly recommend.

**Comment from PaintColorHelp.com Dallas:**

> Tawnie, you were great to work with! I can’t wait to see pictures of the finished project and your cute blush/navy exterior. It will be an asset to the neighborhood.

> Although I do not live in the DFW area, I reached out to PaintColorHelp because I needed color help. I live in Houston and needed help picking a shutter color. At best, I was expecting a referral to someone in Houston to help me. To my surprise, she called me back and said she'd be more than happy to help me if I sent a few pictures. I was floored, because all other designers quoted a minimum 2 hour charge, wanted to drive out etc... A lot of, as my grandmother would say "rigga-ma-role." I just needed a shutter color. She suggested color combinations for my shutters and front door! And identified the PPG color numbers! You need to know that from my conversations with her, it is very clear that she KNOWS the science of colors and that is a great resource. I cannot recommend paintcolorhelp.com enough. Not only for her knowledge, but for your generosity in helping me choose colors for my home "facelift." Many, many thanks and much appreciation!

**Comment from PaintColorHelp.com Dallas:**

> Thanks for your kind words. I had fun working with you - can't wait to see the finished product!

> Juli has helped us with two houses now. She provided expert advice for exterior paint colors, as well as the exact shade of white we needed for interior walls. She also provided assistance with picking flooring and window treatments. She knows her stuff.

> Juli has worked on almost every room of my house of the years. Her suggestions have always been spot on and in keeping with our taste and budget. She helped us choose color schemes that worked for each room but also worked together as a bigger picture. Her latest project for us was a bedroom with a beautiful gray, navy and coral scheme. I will try to add a picture.

> Love love love her. I have called her on multiple occasions as I've broken my painting tasks into multiple projects. She always hits a home run. She's very responsive and she can hone right into what will look best but still take into account your wants. Can't say enough about her. She's saved me from making very costly mistakes!

**★★★★★ — Leanne M, Aug. 2017**

> I am so thankful that I found Juli! Her expertise in paint colors and color coordinating was amazing. Rather than my usual struggle with color wheels, swatches and multiple trips to the paint store for samples which end up going to haz waste collection, she listened and analyzed my preferences and ouila - gave me great options and choices! I am so happy with the color of a family room renovation including accent color ideas on furnishings. I also went ahead and repainted the entire house exterior, feeling confident on the colors for once. Thank you, Juli! I will call you again soon!

> After months of searching for the right color for our house, my husband and I felt defeated. None of the colors we liked looked good with our lighting. I finally broke down and asked for help. I found Julie and she did an amazing job picking out our paint color for the whole house! She also helped with the type of light bulbs we needed to have a bright and natural look. Julie was always responsive when I had additional questions. I cant thank her enough. Our house is finally perfect!

**★★★★★ — Hilary Carter, Oct. 2016**

> After trying 6 shades of greige and white on our walls, my fiancé and I still couldn't decide on a color to paint our home. We decided to reach out to Julie, and it was the best decision we made! She helped us understand the dynamics of undertones as well as leveraging the amount of natural light in our home when choosing a color. We live in Carrollton, and the charge was $80 for 70 minutes.

> Juli is great to work with. She listened to what I wanted and helped me choose the perfect colors for my kitchen and family room. She didn't try to sell me anything which I LOVED! She had tons of large samples and lots of great advice for when we start painting. I can't wait to get started on this project!

**★★★★★ — kankantx, Aug. 2016**

> Juli came to my home ready to work. I hired her as a colorist, paint color consultant because I'm just not the "decor" type of person. I know what I want when I see it, but admit my vibe is somewhat hard to pinpoint as I'm eclectic when it comes to decor.
>
> She had Color boards, swatches, you name it. I have a lot of extra lighting at the rear of my house where the living room and kitchen are, and she checked color swatches with and without light and listened to my desires about the type of vibe I wanted. Loved the results. And will be hiring her again to help pick the colors for my master suite.

> Juli helped me select paint colors and other decorating components for a living room that needed to be repainted after some water damage. She had previously helped me with a guest bathroom and a bedroom used as an office. Her experience with paint colors and related décor is extensive and her sense of style is quite impressive. Her services are provided for a very fair price.

## Community Q&A

**Q: What colors/textures would make this exterior pop? Name of this style?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

A: Hi Steven, when you have an exterior that is 100% paintable (no brick or stone you are trying to retain in its natural state), then your options are almost limitless. The roof comes into play, of course, but unless it's an unusual color, it doesn't have a terrible amount of impact.

What I suggest to customer in this situation is: a) find photos of similar houses to yours, whose colors you like
b) consider uploading your home photo to one of the freebie sites online, and colorize it. the outlines take a while, but once that's done, you can endlessly move color combos around.

Finally, think about what neighboring colors are close to you. I like a house to look unique - not too copycat with anything right around it.

All that said, the most dramatic change would come from reversing the position of light and dark. Going much darker on the body, with a lighter fascia and/or shutter. I would not go for an extreme contrast between the siding and shutter though, as this accentuates all those rectangles instead of the overall house shape. Hope that helps!

**Q: Decorating help!** *(in Home Decorating)*

I’m wanting to set up a reading corner/sitting area in my office and can’t decide on colors. I’m thinking of a cozy chair/ottoman or a chair and a half with a side table and a tall lamp.
I’ve attached pics of my rug and office. The rug has blush, navy blue, light aqua blue, and mustard. My desk furniture is a dark mahogany.
Thoughts??

A: Hi Crystal, are you talking about colors for the chair and lamp? Because I think you could pretty much use any of the prominent colors from the rug. It really depends on what else is already in the office... and which color you respond to most strongly. Once the chair is chosen, you could fill in smaller accessories like pillows and art that bring in the secondary and tertiary colors.

**Q: Help Picking Curtain Rod Color** *(in Home Decorating)*

Dining room (a work in progress) has white walls and I will be adding white drapery to the windows in the room. Chandelier will be gold and I'm thinking of doing black drapery rods. Or should I stick with gold to match the chandelier?? The living room (next to dining room) has black drapery rods on the window so I thought it would be best to stick with the same color.

A: Once you have the actual curtain, and the mounting hardware is in place, you could try one of each if desired. Borrow a black rod from the next room, and try a gold style as well.
Black would repeat your chair color and bring more contrast. However, gold would provide a little bling, and won't look as heavy against a light drape and wall. The white and gold balloons in the photo look good, and give some idea of how that combo might infuse a little life. Whichever you choose, I'd find a way to add a bit of color the dining space to break up all brown wood. Perhaps painting the mirror a fun color? Or switching out the white lampshades for a colorful shade. A table runner is another easy fix. If your budget allowed, you could do a more colorful rug, and also a size larger.

**Q: Tile Pattern Help** *(in Flooring)*

I’m installing subway tile in my shower. Instead of the traditional offset pattern, I’m having the tiles aligned horizontally where all 4 corners meet. The shower floor tile is small hexagon. Need suggestions on bathroom floor tile style/pattern to lay.

A: A picture would be helpful, so we can see what style and colors you have going. But unless you don't like it, there's no reason you can't carry the same hex tile from the shower onto the main floor. I have a black, gray and white hex floor in my remodeled 1920s bath and have liked it.
It's held up pretty well with a mid-tone grout; was installed in 1999.
Alternatively, you could do the same shape in a larger size, like a 5".

**Q: Changing My Exterior Colors -Help!!** *(in Paint)*

Not sure is we will keep the brick on the basement level their natural color. Ideas for base color and trim?

A: I can barely see the brick in this photo - looks brown perhaps? If you want to move away from those tones, and there's not much brick to begin with, then I'd consider painting it. I would do the brick and siding the same color, or at least, not have the brick be lighter than the siding. As it is, the structure seems top-heavy, so you don't want to reinforce that. I also can't tell your roof color because of the snow. Once the brick is primed, the roof tone would be the only limiting factor. That means the potential combinations are numerous. To narrow down, I'd look for examples of houses you like either online or in your area, and use them as a general color guide. One thought - I'd consider doing a brightish color on the front door, so it comes forward. Right now it seems lost in the shadows.

**Q: What color should I paint my aluminum siding?** *(in Paint)*

Hello. I want to paint the white siding of the house, as seen in the pictures, for my wife while she is away. She hates the white. I'm handy but not good at picking colors. The white is fine to me lmao. Anyways I'm wondering what color paint would look good with the color brick. Thank you in advance.

A: Hi Patrick, I'd need to see a photo of the house and its brick to make a guess. But no way would I just pick colors from someone over the Internet and paint while she's gone. Once you get some ideas, upload a photo of your house to a free color visualizer (benjamin moore has a decent one that's fairly easy to use), outline the relevant sections, and try some different color combos. Be aware, the way colors look on a monitor is not accurate to real life. It gives a rough idea, but that's all. Based on the mockup you prefer, go get actual paint samples and try them on a big section of the house.
