Garage doors on today. Yay! Any thought about the appropriate sheen for the front and garage doors? Although I would like real paint some day, the clapboard is hardieplank (so flat) and the trim is pvc (so, idk, satin or less?). Not sure if it makes a difference, but the garage gets full sun and I'm already voiding the warrantee by painting them black. I do tend to like a shine and have 3 busy dirty kids. A: I applaud your strong taste in contrast and your attention to texture and sheen. Normally, I would suggest a high gloss, but with all the other sheens that you have going on, I might stick with a semi-gloss this time. **Q: Dormers...yes, no?** *(in Design Dilemma)* We are currently planning, and getting advice on what to do with our 178 year old home. Love hearing from others, please share your opinions and advice. A: I would go for shutters first. They will frame the windows and add a stronger statement to the house. The lines of this house don't really call for dormers. **Q: Front Door Color** *(in Design Dilemma)* Trying to decide if I should.paint the front door or just add colorful accessories (wreaths and potted flowers etc). If I paint it I was thinking about black. Any suggestions ? We are working on curb appeal in general and the landscaping is a work in progress but it is so darn hot out its a slow work. thank you! A: What a difference! It looks great. Ideally, the sheen would be the same on the doors and the shutters but you can't tell from a distance. I really think that a person who is standing at your front door is going to admire the door....not criticize the lack sheen on the shutters. After all, this is all about curb appeal!
