Founded by Rachel Seldin in 2012, the studio specializes in high-end residential design, with a focus on full-home renovations, expressive bathrooms, and bespoke kitchens that blend functionality with artistry. Seldin brings a background in both fashion and fine art, which informs her layered and emotionally resonant approach to interiors.

Seldin Design Studios is committed to designing spaces that reflect the individuality of each client. Rachel Seldin’s design philosophy—a little you, a little new—guides a process that honors both the client’s story and the architectural character of the home. Her work is known for its bold use of color, unexpected patterns, and a deep respect for craftsmanship and historical detail.

In addition to her creative eye, Seldin is known for her organization, clear communication, and ability to manage projects with structure and professionalism. Clients value not just her artistic vision, but also her efficiency, transparency, and ability to deliver designs that are both imaginative and grounded in real-world execution.

Seldin prefers a highly collaborative and transparent design process. From concept development and space planning to materials selection and contractor coordination, she works closely with clients every step of the way to ensure a cohesive and customized result. Recent projects include a full Victorian gut renovation that honored original moldings while introducing modern flow; a pair of bright, personality-filled bathrooms designed for a young family; and a kitchen that creatively maximized function within a tight footprint—all while maintaining a strong visual identity.

While most projects are located in the city of San Francisco, Seldin is available for travel and welcomes opportunities to collaborate on unique projects beyond the region.

**★★★★★ — Robert Bentley, March 2024**

> I am very pleased with the cleaning that had been done in my home . The cleaners were always punctual, polite, friendly and willing to carry out each task I had asked for. My home was consistently cleaned to a high standard.

**★★★★★ — Jennifer Smith, Dec. 2023**

> Rachel helped me redo the kitchen and both bathrooms in my new house recently, and I couldn't be more grateful. She has impeccable taste, and I completely trusted her instincts, but she also really listened to what I wanted and helped guide me in all the choices. She would often pick three or four different fixtures or tiles that she thought I'd like, and then I would choose from among those, which I found really helpful since I still made the final call, but I knew they were all Rachel-approved! She helped me find things that fit my comfort zone, but that also pushed the boundaries a little bit to make the house more beautiful and interesting -- little touches that just made the design feel more unique. This is my first house, and after many many years of renting, it's such a joy to be in a space that is just the way I like it. I get so many compliments on everything -- the tiles, the light fixtures, the layout, the paint colors -- and it all looks just wonderful. Rachel helped me turn my house into a home that I'm really proud of and take so much delight in, and I am very, very grateful to her!

**★★★★★ — Sarah Berger, Nov. 2023**

> Rachel made the whole process of design and decision making very easy for us. She learned our style very quickly, and was able to make amazing recommendations for whole rooms that all work together with minimal need for feedback or changes. Rachel is extremely detail oriented, professional, and hits the deadlines that she sets, as well as those for her vendors. She essentially project managed the interior details of our whole home renovation. She also communicated very clearly with our contractor and worked very well with his team.
>
> We highly recommend Rachel and would definitely work with her again.

**★★★★★ — Brian B., Nov. 2023**

> Rachel was a dream design partner, especially for a first time home owner embarking on our first significant project - a bathroom renovation. She was very collaborative during the design process and really understood our vibe, as well as desire to be considerate re: budget. She helped provide thorough options and recommendations throughout the process of where we would get the most bang for our buck. When it came to sourcing materials, we had no major issues and everything was delivered promptly. During the actual renovation project, she served as an incredible resource to us. We looked to her for every design-focused decision and she delivered (even on some very tight turnarounds). She really knows her stuff and that was evident during each project discussion with the full team. I can't imagine having gone through this renovation with anyone else. We look forward to our next project with Rachel!

**★★★★★ — Brian B., Nov. 2023**

> We worked with Rachel to renovate our full guest bathroom. From the start Rachel was on top of her stuff and very communicative. She provided several designs and aligned with our feedback throughout the design process - very easy to collaborate with. We wanted to update, optimize and enlarge our very outdated, small, cramped bathroom and she did just that, beautifully. When it came time for construction she was there to ensure that all the details were covered and we were all on the same page. She even did great when the communication with our contractor became infrequent and there were some delays. We're planning to continue working with Rachel to update our house, and excited to see what we come up with next!

**★★★★★ — Marisa Guber, Nov. 2023**

> Remarkable kitchen renovation with Rachel!
>
> Our 1941 cape cod home desperately needed a new kitchen to improve flow and aesthetics, but the layout (long galley space with 3 doors and 5 windows) presented some big challenges in figuring out options, especially as first-time home renovators.
> We spoke to a number of designers but were blown away by Rachel’s expertise, down-to-earth approach, and commitment to help find solutions that would work for our space, our budget, and our life.
>
> Rachel expertly guided us through the decision making process while also closely listening to and designing for our needs - and adapted plans accordingly. We wanted to be very involved in the entire selection process and Rachel provided helpful guidance and perspective at every step without imposing her own agenda. She has excellent “design table-side manner” and clear, prompt communication. She was also incredibly quick in responding to questions to help us prioritize and narrow in on important final choices.
>
> Her focus on function and how we’d use the space was especially brilliant and practical. I’m elated to see the flow we envisioned in action! While we’re still waiting on a last few details, the design has been a huge game changer for our home! Can’t wait to host Thanksgiving with our family here!
>
> Looking forward to our next project with Rachel!

**★★★★★ — David Scheid, Nov. 2023**

> My wife and I started working with Rachel 18+ months ago after an introduction from a friend in the neighborhood. Our project is relatively smaller… adding a new bathroom and remodeling the primary bathroom. Despite the scale, we have always felt Rachel is fully committed to our project.
>
> Rachel has a very collaborative style. From the beginning, she did a good job feeling out our budget and style to understand exactly what we were looking for. Ultimately, creating a design package that checked all our boxes. She’s experienced and knowledgeable and willing to offer her own opinion, but only after providing multiple options and seeking our input first.
>
> Rachel has been involved throughout the construction process. Staying close to the GC and the trade folks to ensure the design vision is realized down to the fine details.
>
> Communication is so important in everything, but especially in a project like this. Rachel is always very responsive and meticulously organized.
>
> A great fit for us and our project!

**★★★★★ — HU-311061426, May 2022**

> We contacted Rachel after being very impressed with her portfolio on her website. After meeting with her, we decided to go with Rachel because of her professionalism. During our meeting, she was very patient, walking us through the whole process as this was our first ever renovation, answering every question we had (we had a whole lot of them). During our entire renovation process, from design to completion, she was with us every step. We were most appreciative when Rachel helped us figure out ways to lower the cost of the renovation since the permit increased the scope of work, and subsequently our budget. You can’t go wrong having Rachel on your team.

**★★★★★ — HU-469263339, May 2022**

> Looking to do a reno? Rachel is absolutely the person you want to contact! We serendipitously met Rachel, and realized she was a designer - and a phenomenal one at that. I haven't ever worked with a professional designer in the past, and I was blown away with Rachel's professionalism, organization, and talent. From the start, Rachel worked with us to design and implement the kitchen of our dreams. She has excellent contacts with architects, contractors, and with vendors. When she came to present ideas for our kitchen, I was pleasantly shocked at how she really understood my esthetic and brought it to life with her suggestions. Instead of a million choices to choose from, Rachel knew quality materials and presented those - in a reasonable, easy to select way that had me wondering why I had never worked with a professional in the past. When she says "white glove," she doesn't disappoint. Her recommendations for architect and contractor were nothing short of excellent and professional. Once construction started, Rachel was the one ensuring that everything went smoothly and according to plan - we barely had to lift a finger! For our next reno, we already have planned to work with Rachel again! Run, don't walk, to work with Rachel - if you're lucky enough to be able to work with her!

**★★★★★ — Linda B, May 2022**

> Rachel came highly recommended from a colleague. The project, conducted during the pandemic, included a complete remodel of a kitchen and a primary bathroom, partial remodel of a bathroom and painting the entire condo. Rachel expertly guided me through the process, quickly responded to inquiries, and communicated regularly to keep me informed of the progress and next steps. She gained a good understanding of my tastes and wants resulting in high quality materials and products within my budget. Rachel was a pleasure to work with, and she is a true professional. I could have never completed this project without her expertise and been so satisfied with the outcome.

**★★★★★ — dane\_hamlett, Feb. 2021**

> Rachel was an absolute dream to work with. My wife and I embarked on a renovation project of our condo in the middle of a global pandemic and immediately following the birth of our twins. Needless to say, we had limited bandwidth and resources to execute against our vision. Rachel was instrumental in helping us source the highest quality materials at the lowest price point. Rachel also provided detailed budgets and timelines that were not only reasonable, but were most importantly adhered to. Rachel's project management skills were vital to the success of a 'down-to-the-studs' renovation of ~1,500 square feet, and we are overjoyed with the results! We would highly recommend Rachel for projects comparable to ours ('complete' dwelling renovation), juggling multiple vendors, tight timelines, and even tighter budgets.

**★★★★★ — coslovichoi, Dec. 2019**

> Rachel was terrific to work with on our project. She provided an excellent framework and roadmap to start, with clear budget figures for every component. Throughout the process, she communicated with us clearly and thoroughly, and was exceedingly prompt whenever we had any questions. She made everything very easy for us and we highly recommend her work!

  - Description: I first met this family in the spring of 2022, when my client was four months pregnant with her second child. They had just purchased a beautiful 1915 Craftsman-style home in San Francisco’s Cole Valley neighborhood. With its original bones, abundant windows, and incredible natural light, the house had so much potential. A thoughtful 1990s addition had expanded the footprint to include a primary suite with views of the Golden Gate Bridge, a spacious family room off the kitchen, and a large lower…

  - Description: At the start of 2022, I was hired to redesign two bathrooms in this charming San Francisco Victorian—one was an awkwardly laid-out primary bath, and the other didn’t exist yet. Creating a second bathroom for their daughters was a bit of a puzzle. Fortunately, I was able to steal some unused square footage from the primary bath and combine it with a dead-end hallway (Victorians are full of quirky surprises like that). The results were spectacular: two light-filled, full bathrooms that preserved…

  - Description: In early 2021, I began a kitchen remodel in a classic Victorian home in San Francisco’s Noe Valley. As we dug into the project, we uncovered the home’s remarkable past—it had survived the 1906 earthquake and once housed a group of German shipbuilders. Over the years, many of its original Victorian elements had been removed through basic renovations. My clients and I shared a vision: to restore the home’s lost architectural charm while introducing personality through vibrant turquoise accents. Wh…

  - Description: In this project, my clients faced a unique challenge of living in a home with only one bathroom on the top floor and a young daughter’s room next door. The primary bathroom had an awkward layout that felt cramped, and the space was not utilizing its full potential. Additionally, the need for a second bathroom arose due to the growing family’s need for privacy, particularly with the daughter’s room so close by. The renovation aimed to transform the primary bathroom into a spacious, colorful, an…

  - Description: When a Star Wars loving, music listening, cocktail aficionado bachelor moved from his New York City Tribeca apartment into a new home in the Mission Terrace neighborhood of San Francisco, he needed some help making this previously owned pad feel like his own. While it was essential for all of his “must haves” to be incorporated to make it feel like him, it was crucial for me to make space for his childhood obsessions in a sophisticated and inviting yet subtle way. Built in 1914, this house had l…

Looking for a spa like, clean, contemporary and cohesive design that seamlessly transitioned from space to space. At the start of this projected we were unawa…

  - Description: With a baby on the way, I had 6 weeks to design two bathrooms and complete the renovation before the baby arrived. Typically a bathroom remodel takes 8-10 weeks so this was going to be tight completing two within this short timeline. I love a good challenge, so I was excited to welcome this project to my plate.
