The existing kitchen was small, with one window, and the laundry room was outside in the carport. They always listened to our wants and ideas about the space and spent extra time working with us to find a perfect countertop when our first choice fell through. Our previous kitchen was closed in with hanging upper cabinets, very little natural light and an 8 foot popcorn ceiling, while our dining space was just big enough for a six foot table. We never used our front living area since it was closed off from the kitchen and dining area and was very dark. Herron Horton used the limited square footage we have and designed an open concept layout with the interior walls dissecting these spaces removed, many more windows (including skylights) added and a vaulted ceiling finished with Arkansas cypress installed to help add light and a feeling of spaciousness. We love the results and we now spend our evening and weekend time together as a family in our kitchen and new living space. This is now our favorite space in the house and is very light and cozy. Herron Horton worked with us to get the exact look we wanted and to maximize the function of the limited space we have. They are believers in working closely with the client to use the materials (in our case, white cabinets and reclaimed wood) that the clients want. We had a budget and they helped us stick to that with innovative ideas and sources for materials.
