We try to be upfront and transparent with how we charge for our time from the initial call. We charge for an initial consultation then charge an hourly rate there on out for our services. In regards to your project we charged for our initial consultation, we contacted a contractor to come out with us for the second visit to give you a bid for the renovation, and a third charge for us to come out to measure the space (no charge) and create a space plan rendering of the space. Our understanding was that you and your husband were looking for ideas and he was going to do most of the remodel himself. We dropped the ball. We apologize for the misunderstanding. Interior design is a wonderful profession. And to answer your question... I would look for a good design school in your area and try to get into a program. If you can't afford the time or the money to do that then I would suggest taking as many online design classes as you can. In addition, I would find a good local designer to mentor you, hopefully you can learn on the job if you can intern with a good design shop. Hope this helps. I have not done a lot of this type of design and in this case, a professional painter did the work, it was not a DIY but they drew the design out on the white wall and filled in with the teal color. Lyn 502-762-6449 **Q: Soffit in Kitchen - Ideas** *(in Design Dilemma)* We have just purchased this home and while the kitchen has been remodeled, the soffit above the bar counter seems to be a little dated looking. I wanted to see some feedback on its removal and if the can lights or hanging lights would look best from the ceiling once soffit is removed. A: My opinion....I would absolutely remove it ....
