**★★★★★ — Jody Mallen, Nov. 2018**

> Working with Dan, and his team, to design our dream home was a great experience. Dan had the ability to take our ideas (sometimes very different between husband and wife) and create exactly what we were looking for. He truly cared about how our home was designed, his vision was as creative as it was functional and he was completely invested in our project from start to finish. We are enjoying our new home and look forward to many more enjoyable years.

**★★★★★ — Charles Fears, Jan. 2017**

> Dan Contelmo sold himself without opening his mouth. His work spoke for itself. We developed a great working relationship over several years while developing and planning a major renovation. His process helped me shape and reshape my original ideas as he pulled them all together into a realizable project goal. His plans were meticulous. He influenced me with his signature style but never bullied me out of my variations. He helped profile builders and connected me with HomeEnrichment, the perfect builder for my project. He was prompt and available. The project stayed close to budget. Overall, he exceeded my expectations. He was great.

**★★★★★ — Jason Zrodlowski, Dec. 2016**

> I have had the pleasure of working on multiple projects with Dan and he is a master at his craft.
> From concept to completion his professionalism, design knowledge and quality are remarkable.

**★★★★★ — Megan Lawrence, Oct. 2016**

> When I purchased my Victorian which was built in 1900 the identity of the house had been lost over the decades of different ownership and multiple haphazard renovations. When I invited Dan to help plan my renovation he was able to bring out the original character of the house while also incorporating a modern floor plan.
> Dan and I discussed what I was looking to gain as well as salvage and there wasn't a second of hesitation on what was possible. I felt very comfortable sharing my thoughts and what I was looking to remove and add to the existing structure. I even had used cabinets from another home for the kitchen and master bath that he reconfigured to work in the new space. Whenever a question arose there was always a very clear explanation which always left me feeling very confident in the end result. Not only is Dan open minded but also has a creative, forward thinking outlook on design. It was a pleasure working with him and I would recommend him to anyone.

**Comment from Daniel Contelmo Architects:**

> Megan,
> Thanks so much for your kind words. We enjoyed working with you and hope you are enjoying your new spaces.

**★★★★★ — Rossana Breglia, Sept. 2016**

> Dan designed our outdoor cabana. The cabana looks as though it has always been part of the house. He understood what we were looking for and made it happen. We now use our outdoor cabana as an extension of the inside. With the new addition we are able to spend much more time outdoors enjoying the outside while feeling as though we are still in the comfort of our home. I loved Dan's attention to detail and I would definitely use him again.

**Comment from Daniel Contelmo Architects:**

> Thank you Rossana - We look forward to working with you again.

**★★★★★ — Kim Valentine, Sept. 2016**

> Dan designed our forever home and worked with us and our builder throughout the entire building process as well. The time and dedication that Dan and his team put into making everything the best if could be for our needs is evident in the finished product. Our new home is perfect for us in every way. Thanks Dan and Daniel Contelmo Architects!

**Comment from Daniel Contelmo Architects:**

> Kim and Dan - Your home was special to us as well for many reasons. We felt confident after going through the design phase with you that the rooms would feel as though they were wrapped around your lifestyle. Dan

**★★★★★ — HU-641396, Sept. 2016**

> I hired Daniel Contelmo Architects shortly after purchasing my 2 bedroom, one-story home in 2012 to produce as-is drawings. Most recently I hired Daniel Contelmo Architects in 2015/2016 to produce construction plans to replace my entire roof which involved the addition of a second level.
>
> This home is my first and I was not familiar at all with the renovation process. Dan and his staff would provide professional guidance throughout this process; above and beyond guidance on topics ranging from contractors to zoning codes to stocking a small pond with koi fish!
>
> Dan delivers an exceptional customer experience. Dan would come to my house for planning meeting, spend time sketching out ideas until we were satisfied with a rough layout. From there Dan and his staff would share drafts of their designs for comment until the finish product was ready. The quality of Dan's work is second to none.
>
> The quality of Dan's work is well know by professionals in the Poughkeepsie area. Whenever I would apply for building permits or discuss my project with potential contractors, mentioning that I am working with Daniel Contelmo Architects brought instant validation to my project. Contractors knew I would be expecting quality.
>
> I highly recommend Daniel Contelmo Architects.

**★★★★★ — efrogger, Dec. 2015**

> It has been wonderful to work with Dan over the last year. We both are amazed how our ideas and wants were transcribed to paper with such detail. Dan and his team went above and beyond our expectations!
>
> We can not wait to start our build in the spring of 2016 and see our dream house comes to life.

**Comment from Daniel Contelmo Architects:**

> thank you Adam and Erica. We can't wait to start the construction process with you and see your home come to life. Dan

**★★★★★ — chaucertale, Dec. 2015**

> Dan Contelmo's attention to detail and creativity make him a joy to work with. He really listens to his clients and executes projects with eye both for what will make the client happy and what will actually work when all the planning is through. He looks for creative ways to solve problems and to make the experience of doing a project fun and exciting. Not only are his designs fresh and modern--they are also timeless. He works with the best contractors and designers in the business and always makes the happiness and goals of his clients a top priority!

**Comment from Daniel Contelmo Architects:**

> Paula, you and Greg have been especially great to work with. You are both open and trusting and it doesn't get better than that. Thank you

**★★★★★ — mollylilylucy, Oct. 2015**

> We are so pleased to be working with Dan Contelmo and his staff, that I thought I would write a partial review before our project is even complete.
>
> Dan is extremely professional and continually has the ability to exceed our expectations. He listens and than translates exactly what you have in mind with those extra details that you could never have thought of.
>
> He is creative, readily available, and willing to follow through on ideas that we may have with his professional touch.
>
> This has been such a fun project! It is just so exciting to see our home develop into reality knowing that the best is yet to come!!
>
> To be continued .........

**Comment from Daniel Contelmo Architects:**

> Thank you Valerie. We are also very excited to see your home come to life with each phase of construction. Dan

**★★★★★ — 115suzie, March 2015**

> We have lived in our home for almost 40 years and throughout the years we have done numerous projects and additions to grow with our family and/or to update and change with the times. With each new project we would call a contractor, tell him what we wanted and the project was done. There was never a wow factor or a creative process.
>
> When we were planning on moving, several friends suggested we call Dan Contelmo before we made a decision whether to buy a house or build a house. They not only spoke highly of Dan's work, but spoke about what a pleasure it was to work with him.
>
> We had never worked with an architect before so we did not know exactly what to expect but after meeting with Dan, the decision was easy. We decided to build!
>
> We were planning on building our house in Nashville, Tennessee and was hoping that would not be an issue. Luckily for us, it was not and as a matter of fact, Dan already had clients in Tennessee.
>
> Going into the project we had a few ideas but not an overall picture of exactly what the house would look like and feel like.
>
> Our meetings with Dan were relaxing, creative and invigorating. Dan would ask us the perfect questions so not only he, but my husband and I, could get a really clear picture of what was important and essential to us so we could create the perfect home. As we were talking, Dan was creating a home that was truly sensational. His attention to detail and amazing sense of style was breathtaking. It was if he not only heard our words but was also reading our minds and was designing something that we could never have put into words!
>
> Working with Dan was amazing from beginning to end.

**Comment from Daniel Contelmo Architects:**

> Steve and Paula,
> It was my pleasure to work with both of you on such an exciting project. I wish you the best of luck with your new home. Thank you for including us in the design process and making it a great experience. Dan

**★★★★★ — marksigfried, Nov. 2014**

> Dan helped us redesign our entire house, 5700 square feet, new bathrooms, new kitchen, fireplaces, and millwork. We love his eye for design. Dan worked with our taste and preferences to help us realize our vision. He communicates well and he always follows through.

  - Location: Westhampton Beach, NY
  - Photos: 67
  - Description: Great projects start with great clients, and this was no exception. Though we had tremendous town restrictions, the clients gave us the freedom to create the interior spaces and exterior detailing that brought everything together. We wanted a design that had architectural appeal but wasn't overwhelming. Because the home is not large, there were many smaller details incorporated in the exterior to create more interest and a larger appearance. The front tower recalls a lighthouse, while the playfu…
- [Shingle Revival - Award Winner](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/shingle-revival-award-winner-pj-vj~2928747)
  - Location: Stanfordville, NY
  - Photos: 22
  - Description: This shingle revival home embodies many of the elements of a 19th century New England Summer Cottage. Natural materials were used on the exterior to reflect an earlier time, and the setting on this 300 acre horse farm. Spaces inside and out were laid out to take advantage of the many views surrounding the house- hay fields, streams, wooded areas, and distant hilltops, as well as the farms own barns and rolling fields dotted with horses. Daniel Contelmo Architects also provided Interior Design an…

  - Description: This new home is the award winner in for the 2018 Best Bathroom and 2017 "Best Whole-Home Architecture" - Readers Choice, both from Westchester Home Magazine. The surrounding landscape was the inspiration for the design of this home. The plan was determined by a diagrammatic location of spaces to maximize views, natural light, and use. The front elevation makes use of many traditional cottage elements, combining steep rooflines with graceful curves. Clover windows and natural stone give a timele…

  - Description: This house was awarded "Best Entry" 2015, and "Best Architecture" in the 2014 Westchester Home Magazine Design Awards and was featured in the 2010 spring edition of Beautiful Homes (pg. 86). The symmetrical entrance and rigidity of a traditional colonial are softened by shingle style and supplemented by stonework. An angled garage wing responds to the natural contours of a plateau on which the house sits, testifying to the ability of Daniel Contelmo, architect, to address the natural landscape a…
- [Formal Makeover - Award Winner](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/formal-makeover-award-winner-pj-vj~2704328)
  - Location: Chappaqua, NY
  - Photos: 24
  - Description: The existing ranch house lacked character and profile from the outside. The owners wanted to give more prominence to the outside of the house. To do this, the house was given a complete facelift with new gable roofs over the entry and family room. They also wanted to update and add space to the public spaces on the first floor. In order to accomplish this, the space of the existing garage was converted into living space as a family room and breakfast room. The space of the existing family room w…

  - Description: This was a complete kitchen, family room, and bathroom renovation along with the addition of another garage bay and covered rear terrace. We needed to create a hardworking, multi-functional space in the kitchen that was still elegant. The client wanted unique spaces that could function well for day to day activities, as well as make entertaining easier. We wanted to create space for a working kitchen, banquet, breakfast bar, and wet bar. We needed to fit in all these functions without crowding t…

  - Location: Chappaqua, NY
  - Photos: 53
  - Description: This renovation is the award winner in 3 categories in the 2017 Westchester Home Magazine design competition. It won for Best Mud Room, Best Traditional Bath, and Whole Home Design. The exterior of this original 1990’s home had strong roof lines and detailing. It was essential that these details and proportions remained intact, and that additions be seamless. The end of the garage was where guests would park, unable to see the front door. A revised approach and formal parking area have enhanced…
- [Dobbs Ferry Interior - Award Winner](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/dobbs-ferry-interior-award-winner-pj-vj~1395940)
  - Location: Dobbs Ferry, NY
  - Photos: 21
  - Description: The entry of this home is currently a finalist in the Westchester Home Magazine design competition. This interior renovation worked entirely within the existing structure of the house. A few walls were constructed, but most of the work was done with interior finishes and custom built-ins. The split level residence presented many challenges to design and construction, but the result is a personal path through a home filled with beautiful details and thoughtful transitions.

  - Location: Bedford, NY
  - Photos: 10
  - Description: This remodeling project won a 2018 Gold Master design award from Remodeler Magazine. The character of this house was completely changed by the addition of a new roof, a formal entry porch, and a few new windows. The original house roof was filled with dormers. Several dormers were removed to make space for a large gambrel roof to cover and give importance to the entrance. The roof pitch was steepened to increase attic head height and give the roof more prominence. Though few interior architectur…

  - Location: Millbrook, NY
  - Photos: 6
  - Description: An addition to a quaint gatehouse in Millbrook, NY, dating back to the late 1800s, offered another opportunity to renovate a historic home. The original structure was originally designed by the architect of the Mohonk Mountain House and Bennett College. Daniel Contelmo Architects' challenge was to continue the whimsical detailing established by the original home. Victorian style influenced the new design, leading to steeply pitched roofs and balcony detailing. The addition, reflecting the Millbr…

  - Photos: 24
  - Description: Located in Southampton on a pond, this home was a typical 1980's style with a stucco exterior. That is, until the Client hired DCA to strip the exterior, add the double gables, and clad the home with cedar shingles. The entry and porch were redesigned, as well as the rear porches and rooflines. Most of the first floor was renovated with a new kitchen, eating area, powder room, and mudroom. DCA created a coffered ceiling in the kitchen and a beamed/vaulted ceiling in the mudroom. Each space was b…

  - Description: This property was developed in the 1950’s with a relatively bare landscape. The rear yard was nothing special, but had some privacy. The owners set out to create mini gardens around the entire house. A koi pond was added first. Over time, plants were added that began creating pockets of spaces that gave each area a room-like feel. With each hole dug, rock was removed from it to install the pond or install a plant. The rock in the ground became the same rock used around the pond and used for ston…

- [Creative Loft - Award Winner](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/creative-loft-award-winner-pj-vj~246200)
  - Location: Stanfordville, NY
  - Photos: 23
  - Description: This barn remodel is an award finalist in the 2018 HGTV design competition, and and won a 2018 Master design award for accessory structures. It required a complete renovation since the original barn was in disrepair. The owner's wanted to turn the space into a usable modern space, but maintain the traditional charm of the old barn. Large commercial windows contrast with the antique flooring and finishes, and allow the gardens to come in.

  - Location: Poughkeepsie, NY
  - Photos: 11
  - Description: The original bathroom was spacious, but very inefficient. We wanted to keep the space bright and open, but have it function efficiently and feel more scaled down. We wanted to increase the available storage and create a separate room for the toilet. We wanted to minimize the demolition and the impact of the renovation on the exterior of the house. All fixtures were kept close to their original location. The bathroom only had one window opening to allow in natural light. We used glass panels in t…

  - Description: This bathroom is the 2016 winner of the "Master Design Awards", (gold), and the 2016 "Kitchen and Bath Magazine" design contest, (gold). The existing bathroom was in need of an update and repair. We wanted to create a spacious and clean master bath in a tight space. We used this opportunity to make better use of the space. There was hall space between the master closet and the bathroom that was added to the bathroom space. This provided room for a double vanity, a larger shower, and a built-in m…

  - Description: The poolhouse for this project was featured in the Spring issue of "Outdoor Home." This project was a two phase addition to a simple colonial house in Chappaqua, NY. Challenges for Daniel Contelmo included the hilly site, as well as the fact that the front entry lacked presence and the garage was the primary entry. Phase one added a family room, kitchen and breakfast room to the main level, and renovated a bedroom. New overhangs and brackets draw the eye away from the garage and place the focus…
