## Community Q&A

**Q: I need help with my ceiling paint choice** *(in Polls)*

We just finished our bedroom restoration, but have a dilemma. 
Builder used semi-gloss on ceiling. We think the ceiling should at least be toned down to eggshell, but wonder if we are wrong. We are concerned that the semigloss is too shiny, distracting and takes away from the semigloss ceiling beams. Help!! We can repaint the ceiling now, but what is the right thing to do?

A: You need a better contrast between the ceiling and the beams. Beams and trim should be the only things in a gloss paint. The glare will be outrageous with all that shine!!

Current color is graham cracker... Large very open floor plan! Need suggestions.

A: Completely agree. I'd love to see a fun, large scale patterned drape on the windows. A fun area rug, and colorful accents. Pull one of the colors from the rug or draperies and use it for a color on the walls.

Does anyone know what app I can use to design a floor plan and be able to stage it ? Just bought a home and don't know where to start . I have an idea, but would like to see it more in color with furniture . App for Mac computer or iPad .

A: Ethan Allen has a great floor plan program on our website, and all totally free. I'd love for you to fill your room with our products but you can custom any size furniture. Please let me know if I can help! I'd love to send you some ideas,

**Q: Boring dining room...what's a girl to do?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I painted my dining room a deep gray.  It is a nice color, but the overall look is just blah.  I could switch out the rug to a jute from another room.  New drapes could help but what color.  Dining is open to family room so color needs to flow.

A: I would change to the jute rug. A great custom drapery would be beautiful, a great fun colorful print to pull colors from room to room. The mirror is too small, and not doing much for you. A great painting with the same colors from the draperies, in a larger scale would look great. You can also anchor the art with sconces or Buffett lighting.

**Q: Family room** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We have a two story paneled walls, two story windows facing west; bright exposure. How can we bring it to the present?

A: Is the paneling dark wood? Dont be scared to paint. I've had a few of my clients paint and it's looked great in every home.

**Q: Need help with the finishing touches** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Here is an updated photo....got the mirror delivered and put up, got some pillows for our couch and a very large (48"W x 38" H) canvas will be arriving this week for the dining room. I'll attach a picture of the canvas. I need something for a centerpiece for the dining room table, the top of the buffet (I think the wine will go back to the kitchen and the plant moved somewhere else), my little reading nook needs artwork but it has to coordinate with the living room art and the shelving unit needs something on the top. Any ideas?? Thanks, I'm terrible at this!
