The initial quote came in about 30% lower than what the final quote was, but my husband upgraded several things along the way to increase the price. Dave was our production foreman and he kept the job moving along. There were some hiccups with getting subs out to complete their portions. Our construction crew of Scott and Jim built the entire basement with care. If something was wrong, they corrected it immediately. We had an incident with our stocked freezer, but the company reimbursed us once we provided an inventory of the ruined food. > > Would we hire the company again? Yes. Their staff was professional, yet friendly, knowledgeable, clean, and respectful of us and our property. I plan to have them do other jobs in our home very soon. The price was reasonable and job was finished in a timely manner. I tried for 4 months prior to contacting J C Smith to get this remodel done and didn't get very far. There was always an excuse of some kind, too busy, my budget wasn't high enough, contractor on vacation, or just never bothered to get back to me at all. We moved to a new two story home with a basement. The laundry room was located on the top floor. Unfortunately, the code-required floor drain was not provided in the laundry room. The flood was caused by the water pipe connection which burst. The water migrated to the hallway and other areas of the master bed room, closets and the to the kitchen, family and dining rooms below. The kitchen ceiling had to be restored. There were no damages in the basement. > > The work was completed on June 15, 2017. We indicated in our review of JC Smith, LLC in Angie’s List that we were happy to choose them and we were satisfied with their work. > > Last Monday (October 9, 2017) JC Smith, LLC sent us two emails requesting to review them in HomeAdvisor and Houzz. > > Although the basement was not affected by the flood a profound damage was created by JC Smith, LLC during the construction. The scope of work required that the entire first floor existing wood flooring be removed and replaced with new. The removal and replacement of wood floors required power machines which caused dust and wood particles covering the entire area. The basement did not have finished ceiling. The space contained valuable family items and a desk top computer that stored our valuable family documents and photos. That collaborative flexibility was really great. We ended up with an external facelift with Hardie plank siding, new windows, a completely revitalized wood floor screened in porch, replaced gutters and damaged drywall, structural and aesthetic enhancements everywhere including copper roofs on two bay windows and an artistic wood feature beautifully translated from a picture I provided. JC Smith LLC and their team of professionals did a fantastic job and were good, flexible, reliable, friendly people throughout. We couldn't be happier with the result. After another contractor (who is also local elected councilman) left us hanging, we met representatives from JC Smith LLC at the Martinsburg Home Show and were impressed by the company's personnel right from the start. We set up an appointment for an estimate; and, lo and behold, not only did they show up, they showed up on time, a rarity for this area! John Smith himself surveyed our damage, took copious notes and measurements, described in detail what the process of restoration would entail, and said he'd send us an estimate the next day, which he did. I called and within an hour JC Smith came out and estimated the damage. As a medical practice we needed to be up and running for our patients.
