Sleightholm Workshop Design + Build is a custom home builder serving the entire Gunnison and Crested Butte area. We offer all phases of design, general contracting, building and custom woodworking services.

Sleightholm Workshop offers design/build services in the truest sense of that relationship: a full integration of the traditionally separated design and construction phases of the building process. With an architecture degree (B.Arch.) from Virginia Tech and over 15 years experience in the hands-on construction of fine custom homes, Matt Sleightholm's particular combination of design and construction expertise gives him a familiarity with this process beyond that of most architects or builders. By implementing the design/build model, homeowners benefit from this streamlined process in time and overall cost.

As a full-service general contractor, Sleightholm Workshop offers both new construction and large or small scale remodeling services. Sleightholm Workshop emphasizes immaculate craftsmanship in all areas of building construction, with an eye toward richly-designed buildings and spaces. Our building services are supported by a fully equipped wood shop, facilitating finely-crafted details from timber elements to custom, handmade cabinetry, interior and exterior doors, and millwork.

As a 'green builder,' Sleightholm Workshop follows an ethic of responsible building practices, use and re-use of materials and minimized site impact in all projects. Sleightholm Workshop is particularly well-versed in building for cold-climate building efficiency.

> Matt is an incredible builder. I was living in Virginia when I visited Crested Butte to select a builder. Matt was recommended to me by a local realtor that I’d known for many years. I met with Matt and liked him immediately. After we jointly developed the house plan, Matt and I visited the building site, and he had selected exactly the same location for the house that I had.
> Matt posted over 120 pictures of the house during construction so I could view progress from my office in Virginia throughout construction, from groundbreaking to completion. The quality of his work is obvious from the pictures. You can see them on his website \[ www.sleightholmworkshop.com \] . My house is the “Morrill” house.
> Many and I spent many hours on the phone discussing appliances, wood flooring, tile, doors, windows, etc. As is often the case, the house cost more to build than I had intended, but that was because I wanted higher quality appliances, tile, etc., a real stone fireplace, and a large, expensive window on the front, among other upgrades, that were more expensive than initially budgeted. My fault, not Matt’s; in fact, in many cases he constrained my initial choice of upgraded materials to keep cost down, and I am perfectly content with his suggestions. I didn’t like Matt’s original suggestion for roofing – his response was “trust me on this one,” then he drove me around and showed me other houses with the same material and I loved the look. That’s what’s on the house.
> I appreciate Matt’s putting his heart and soul into his work. He does not compromise on quality. My house is incredibly tight, and incredibly well built. Matt made suggestions for improvement that had not occurred to me, such as that we make one door to the garage a bit larger because I own a pickup.
> Matt does not consider himself done when the house is completed. It’s been almost 18 months since the house was built, and Matt still comes by to fix things if something is wrong. He told me not to call anyone else, but to call him and he’ll take care of it. We had a minor issue with exterior lights becoming unattached – most likely because of wind and weight of snow. Matt devised a solution to avoid repetition of the problem. It is attractive and it resolved the issue.
> Lastly, I consider Matt a dear friend. We’ve never had angry words over anything. That, perhaps, says more about him than anything. I couldn’t recommend him more strongly.

> After searching and meeting with numerous builders in the Gunnison area we couldn't be happier that we partnered with Matt to build our new home. Being that we were 1200 miles away through most of the construction process, it was critical that we hired someone not only ethical and very trustworthy - but also as designers ourselves, someone that paid particular attention to the details. Sleightholm Workshop and their team are extremely knowledgeable and delivered on all accounts. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend or use them again.

> Sleightholm Workshop remodeled our kitchen as well as our entry cabinets. Matt ran a good project and delivered a great looking space on budget.

> Sleightholm Workshop renovated my 35 year old log cabin. The project came in on time and close to the original budget (I added a few things). The quality of workmanship was outstanding. And Matt Sleightholm made a number of suggestions (heating system, use of recycled wood products) that that improved the end product a lot. Could not make a stronger recommendation.

> Sleightholm Workshop designed and built our dream house in Gunnison, CO about 5 years ago. Matt & Julie worked with us every step of the way to plan, design and build our passive solar home that we absolutely love. They were extremely professional, creative, smart, and helped us stay within our budget while building us an amazing house. We designed the house to be a passive solar house to benefit from all of the sunny days in Gunnison. During the frigid winter months we have so much sun that our inside temps can get up to 75 or 80 degrees. Matt was able to build the house to maximize the lot space while also maintaining amazing views and the passive solar benefits. Their design sense and style fits perfectly with ours and we love all of the beautiful details such as the custom designed rolling door to our home office, gorgeous trim, and perfect detail on the exterior. Someone just today asked when our house will be on the cover of one of the modern house magazines! We constantly get great feedback about the house and I recommend Sleightholm Workshop to anyone I know looking to build or remodel in the Gunnison Valley.
