> My husband and I purchased a home in Belmont which required a full renovation. We interviewed several contractors/design & build firms and Scott was by far the most knowledgeable & able to complete the renovation within our budget whereas none of the others were able to do so. Scott is upfront & honest about costs, he maintains a spreadsheet which enables the homeowner to see where the budget stands. Scott was amazing to work with! Scott met with us in person regularly to discuss the project. In between meetings he was always available to chat via email or on the phone. He made it a point to accommodate my difficult schedule (I was pregnant & put on bedrest) which was greatly appreciated. Scott made sure to stick to the timeline, in fact he even finished the job early. The subcontractors, vendors & project manager that Scott provided us with were such a pleasure to work with, more importantly they were so knowledgeable and they provided the highest quality service/product. Scott has a knack for design & on the rare occasion an issue arose he was always able to quickly resolve the issue. We are absolutely thrilled with how our home turned out, it turned out even better than we imagined! We will absolutely use Scott for some future projects that we have planned. We cannot recommend The Curtice Group enough!

> The Curtice Group was hired to Design, Contract Manage and build an addition as well as remodel Kitchen, replace roof and paint both exterior and interior of main house and addition.

**★★★★★ — Christina Costello, Jan. 2026**

> I conducted a long search for a general contractor who I could trust. So glad i chose Scott & the Curtice Group. We did a bath, kitchen remodel & added sliders and a deck and it’s all amazing. They are wonderful to work with, high marks for great communications, transparency, collaboration and just all around good people. Will continue to work with them on any future projects.

**Comment from The Curtice Group Inc:**

> Thank you so much for taking the time to share this thoughtful review. We’re truly grateful for the trust you placed in Scott and the entire Curtice Group team. It was a pleasure collaborating with you on your bath and kitchen remodel, as well as the new sliders and deck. Clear communication, transparency, and collaboration are core to how we work, so it means a lot to hear that reflected in your experience. We look forward to working with you again on future projects.

> Amazing experience. How often do you get to say you completed a project that was under budget, completed early, and had responsive support throughout? We completed our largest home renovation project with the Curtice group this summer. It could not have gone better - we worked on the design the year prior and received excellent support with thoughtful feedback on design decisions. The project included a new master suite, new second floor bathroom, new roof, external siding, and renovation to adjoining rooms. We appreciated the detailed planning, budget progress transparency, and the more conservative approach to budget and schedule as it turned out to be less time and budget without hiccups along the way. The team is very professional, we are looking forward to completing another project in the near future!

**Comment from The Curtice Group Inc:**

> Thank you so much for taking the time to share this — we truly appreciate your kind words. It was a pleasure working with you on such a meaningful renovation, and we’re glad our planning, communication, and approach to budget and schedule made the process smooth from start to finish. We’re grateful for the opportunity to work on your home and look forward to collaborating again in the future.

> Highly recommended! Scott Curtice is great to work with. He genuinely wants his clients to be happy, and will go out of his way to make that happen. His vendors are top notch, whether it’s a plumber or a tile installer. He’s a problem-solver, reliable, communicative and very easy to work with. On top of the schedule and budget throughout the project. Such integrity and pride in the work. Pricing is competitive and fair. Hire The Curtice Group. They will make the process as smooth as possible.

**Comment from The Curtice Group Inc:**

> Thank you so much for this wonderful review. We truly appreciate your kind words about Scott and the entire team. Client satisfaction, clear communication, and working with trusted partners are at the core of what we do, so it means a great deal to hear that reflected in your experience. We’re grateful for the opportunity to work with you and appreciate your recommendation.

> I can't recommend the Curtice Group enough! We did a kitchen renovation, including design and construction, with them in 2024 and the process was quick, the team was extremely communicative, and the end product is gorgeous!
>
> In October 2023, we started the design process with them to see what would be possible with our kitchen area that was out-of-date and not functional for our family.Eric Curtice came by a few times to do thorough measurements of our space in order to render some designs for us to look through. Scott, the owner, gave us a breakdown of costs; he was very practical about what he thought was important and what was not, balancing need with price. It was so refreshing to get such a granular view of exact costs before diving into a renovation project.
>
> After design, we decided to go forth with construction, which kicked off in early January 2024. Scott's team set us up a temporary kitchen (including a dishwasher) which made living under construction so easy. The project manager, Shawn, was there every single weekday, and Scott came at the start of most weeks to check on progress. The Curtice Group team were incredibly communicative the entire time, giving us updates via email about timeline and costs. We were done with our project by mid-March (just 2.5 months!) and we're thrilled with the end result. Even better, we came in a little under budget.
>
> You should absolutely hire this group. We'll definitely be calling them for future projects!

**Comment from The Curtice Group Inc:**

> Elaina,
> Thank you for sharing such a glowing review of your experience working with us. It was a pleasure working with you and we are thrilled you are happy with the finished project. We look forward to working together again in the future and are always here if you need us.

**★★★★★ — Charles Allison, Feb. 2024**

> The Curtice Group were excellent throughout the project. Scott Curtice was extremely helpful, engaged and communicative through entire project, with many great practical and aesthetic ideas on design, fixture selection, execution (minimizing disruption to remainder of house not being worked, considering living space arrangements while half of house/bedrooms/bathrooms out of use, and setting up a temporary laundry) and finishes. He was cost conscious and fully transparent about pricing and the effect of various choices and selections throughout, while remaining happy to go ahead with whatever choices we made after weighing on the pros and cons. His project manager Vassili was also great to work with, also very thoughtful about both the functional aspects of the project as well as the look. The final result has exceeded our expectations. The work also progressed steadily, without being left for any period without contractors or subcontractors moving things along, and work was completed within the planned schedule.

**Comment from The Curtice Group Inc:**

> Thank you for sharing your review of the Curtice Group with the Houzz community. It was truly a pleasure working with you on this project and we look forward to working together in the future.

**★★★★★ — Chris, June 2023**

> Scott and The Curtice Group team were fantastic to work with from start to finish. The project was extensive, full bathroom remodel, removal of out dated electrical in 75% of the house, and finishing the basement to be a new living space with full bathroom, bedroom, mudroom, and laundry room, which included a new HVAC system, new plumbing, and significant structural engineering.
>
> Scott worked with me to develop an overall design and was open to ideas and questions and did a great job incorporating my wish list of ideas into the design, while providing insight and recommendations based on his years of experience. Scott developed a very detailed plan and budget and was very transparent during the entire process, communicating well when there were changes to timeline or budget. Throughout the duration of the project Scott and his team were available for my questions, provided me their recommendations, and guided me through the process.
>
> The extensive project was completed on time and in budget and the quality of craftsmanship (e.g., the design, woodwork, tile work, painting) is outstanding. I have nothing but positive experiences working with Scott and The Curtice Group and highly recommend them.

**★★★★★ — Vanessa & Nathaniel, June 2023**

> Scott and Team had done the finished basement for the occupants of our home, a couple years before we purchased it so we knew his team did good work (everything was holding up well 5+ years after the job, and the design/outlay works well). We reached out as we were exploring options for a kitchen remodel, and soliciting bids. Scott was incredibly responsive and patient with us as we worked out what we wanted (and what we could afford). The work was done masterfully, his contractors and crews were great folks, they completed the work as anticipated and on budget. Certainly recommend!

**Comment from The Curtice Group Inc:**

> Thank you for your kind words. We appreciated the opportunity to work with you on the Kitchen remodel and hope you can enjoy the new space for years to come.

**★★★★★ — Eileen Katin, May 2023**

> The Curtice Group finished a bathroom renovation in early April 2023. We can give a wholehearted positive review for Scott Curtice's coordination of the project including keeping to and even improving upon the original schedule, cost transparency throughout and thoughtful approaches to both design as well as any problems encountered. Scott was an excellent communicator all through the work, being both accessible and responsive to our concerns and questions. Proficient management of the timing of subcontractors by Scott and his project managers was key to the success of the project. All of the above contributed to a great result.
> The bathroom work included a complete change in the location of the original plumbing and an extension into another room. Scott designed a bathroom that fits our needs, which includes a lot of storage as well as a feeling of spaciousness in what is not really a big space. At the outset, he recommended vendors, always with the caveat that we could choose our own. He also accompanied us to a vendor for the main plumbing components of the bathroom. For access during the work, he created a temporary entrance that would allow access to the work site without going through the rest of the house.
> In addition to the bathroom, we changed multiple interior doors, replaced the original basement windows and door, changed multiple lighting fixtures and did additional carpentry work. We also addressed remedial plumbing problems in the basement as well as in another bathroom.

> WARNING – DO NOT PAY FOR CONSULT – IT IS A SCAM!
> I was matched up to The Curtice Group through Angi’s List. From the beginning the company was very responsive and flexible. I made it very clear that I needed the full price for their Architecture work, and that I already had a plot plan. They provided me with the pricing both via email and a written contract. I was very hesitant to move forward since there was a $250 consultation fee, but I figured they must be that good. The day of the consultation, Scott arrived at our home and immediately stated that the price I was quoted via email from his company was not correct and he then doubled the price. He stated that there were several add-ons that were not included in the original price, however I informed him that I had been crystal clear with his office that I am not in the building industry, and I had requested the total price which they had provided. This is flat out bait and switch, and the business is using deceptive business practices. This is similar to requesting a total price for a car from a car dealer which they provide to get you interested, only to have them later tell you that tires are extra. Because Scott did not believe me when he was at my home that they did in fact provide one price and he was then trying to verbally quote a much higher price, I emailed him after with the entire email conversation with his office including the contract they had sent me. Scott’s response was that I was right, but he never offered to reimburse me for the consultation fee.
>
> The day Scott came out to our home for a consultation, he was there for not more than 20 minutes. Scott had absolutely no interest in even looking at our home and his overall demeanor was extremely condescending and not consultative. He had this odd behavior of building himself up and talking about all his experience, while at the same time insulting our home and not offering any suggestions. As it turns out, Scott was only interested in telling us what wouldn’t work rather than come up with solutions. I did not expect to be the one guiding the conversation and making suggestions, when I had expected to have an “expert” there for a consultation to help us through our first major renovation. When me and my wife asked if he wanted to see the rest of the house or even look at the bedrooms or the basement, his response was “no, what’s the point”. Scott displayed no interest in our project and only made a point to put up roadblocks rather than provide his “expert advice”. What kind of architect doesn’t even want to see the home or the rooms? He went so far as to insult our home and make disparaging comments. The only thing Scott showed a true interest in, was collecting a check for the $250 “consultation fee”. It is my opinion that this company is running a scam, and this is a very clear money grab strategy. I believe they are practicing bait and switch as well as deceptive business practices.

**Comment from The Curtice Group Inc:**

> Jeff asserts that we lied to him regarding the Design Contract. This is not the case. We told him it was a time and materials contract and not a fixed cost. He apparently did not read the contract, which is only two pages and very clearly states the work will be done by the hour. It was limited (in his case to $3,000). We would need his permission to continue work past that amount. It does not promise to do any set amount of work for a fixed price. The 3K is an estimate based on other jobs of similar size and scope. That contract was never signed or executed
>
> The purpose of the consultation is to (in part) provide ballpark costs for the construction to see if it is worth proceeding to the design stage. When they (he and his wife) gave me their wish list, I provided a crude (Ball Park) estimate to see if their budget was in line. It was not. When I gave them the bad news – they were visibly upset. (But upset with me?) They kept asking if I wanted to see the rest of the house. I told them that was not going to affect the cost of the project they wanted to pursue. I suggested some projects of smaller scope that would fit their budget better but they were not interested.
>
> I did come out to their house so I do need to collect the fee as agreed. I also offered to spend more time with him on a Google meet to go over some of the jobs that I have done. There, he could see where all the costs go a why these additions are as pricey as they are today. He was not interested. I do feel badly, but not because of the accusations he has levied against me. But rather because he told me he has engaged an Architect to do the drawings for him. I believe he will pay a lot more than I would have charged him for plans that, when disseminated to other builders will wind up costing far beyond their budget. He asserts that I lied to him. But I feel like I am the only one telling him the truth. This is a clear case of ‘Please don’t shoot the messenger!’

> We worked with Curtice Group on a 6-month-long kitchen and bathroom remodeling project that required:
> \- load bearing wall removal and roof reinforcement ( framing)
> \- a compatible, improved heating /cooling solution ( including redundancy and attic insulation)
> \- an upgraded electric system integrated with the rooftop solar system,
> \- plumbing required for the new bathroom and kitchen design
> Scott's team and their partners have been excellent to work with throughout the project. We'd recommend Scott Curtice and Curtice Group to every homeowner considering a complex home renovation project for the following reasons:
> \- Experts performing high-quality work
> \- Resourcefulness and problem-solving skills
> \- Excellent communication, organization, and project management
> \- Transparency

> I had an excellent experience with The Curtice Group. I would highly recommend them and I'd use them again for a future project.
> We utilized the full design to build service to add a master bedroom/bath/closet, a 2nd floor 3x10 balcony, and renovate a number of items associated with the build including a re-build of an existing bathroom. We live in an old house and Scott did a fantastic job making use of space and working with the house limitations, and overall, giving us lots of details and options as we had back/forth meetings on the concept.
>
> The design process was great. We had a number of meetings starting from a wish list that expanded to initial design concepts and then to more final concepts. Scott made excellent use of space and gave us a lot of options which for budget reasons, we had to slowly narrow things down to a final concept.
>
> The build was equally fantastic. Not only was the quality extremely high but they stayed on schedule and never skipped days; there was always a team working every day. The workers and subs were reliable and on schedule, which you dont see too much of. Not only that but juggling/managing the schedule when the different subs had to show up was very impressive as the goals for each week were always met. Scott and his team really care to make a top-quality build. A few family members in construction walked through a few times and commented on the high quality of everything.
>
> The house had two surprises as we things opened up. Somewhat expected as unwelcome as it was: a bad foundation and a roof with upgrades needed. Both these items were attended to very quickly and surprisingly got back on track sooner than I thought it would.
> Budget: Scott's budget was extremely accurate. Aside from the 2 house surprises (above) and the additional rise in lumber cost during COVID, all numbers and quotes lined up extremely well. Yes the cost went over the estimate but I hold no concern over this, since it was due to two extra side projects (that were impressive accomplishments).
>
> When the project was done Scott made sure we were happy with everything. A few items to touch up were quickly dealt with and Scott really went above and beyond making sure things were 100%.
>
> No negative comments from me. Any items to nit-pick are not worth putting in a review: this was an extremely positive experience and I would recommend the Curtice Group and would/will certainly utilize them again in the future.

**★★★★★ — HU-100921812, May 2022**

> We were so happy with the Curtice Group from start to finish. We renovated a bathroom and kitchen and could not be happier with the result. Scott was very clear and up front about the timing and pricing of the project and finished exactly on time and on the budget we expected and worked on together. Any increases were always the results of changes we made along the way and were expected. There was someone working at our house everyday and we no had problems with work stopping or people not showing up. All of the subcontractors were great to work with and professional. Our job was a small one for Scott and his team but a huge one for us and we always got personal attention and service as if we were the only customer. We have other renovations planned
> for the future and would have no hesitation calling on the Curtice Group again to help us.

**★★★★★ — Hilary Bruel, April 2022**

> Scott Curtice and his team are incredible. We have now done two major renovations with the Curtice Group — the first was in 2009, and the second was completed in Summer of 2021. Our project — a first floor addition with kitchen and den — came in ahead of schedule and under budget in a pandemic! Scott's estimates are always very accurate, and he is transparent about costs as the project progresses. The craftsmanship is of the highest quality and all of his crew and sub-contractors are extremely professional and pleasant to work with. I would absolutely work with Scott again, and recommend him to all of my friends.

**★★★★★ — HU-830193733, Jan. 2022**

> Every aspect of this project, from planning and architectural work to contractors, sub contractors and coordination was 100%. I received a spreadsheet every week with expenses as compared to budget including all materials and labor. Each step of the project including consultations, advice for saving $$ as well as suggestions for improvements in existing HVAC systems were valuable. All contractors were 100% reliable, professional, were creative and constructive in addressing challenges that emerge in any project and demonstrated outstanding follow through. This project included creating a master bedroom suite on first floor that required significant structural changes to plumbing, electricity and supporting walls. It also included constructing a wood working shop not attached to the house, insulated with electricity and heating with a second floor for lumber storage. The shop is extremely comfortable even on the coldest days and maintains even humidity for the wood.

**★★★★★ — Joe Mandeville, Oct. 2021**

> At the time we bought our house, we knew we’d need a down-to-the-studs renovation on our kitchen and first floor bathroom. After living with the house for quite some time, we finally decided to move the bathroom, incorporate our mudroom as indoor space, and open up our floor plan. We needed design help, significant structural reinforcement, and soup-to-nuts project management: enter the Curtice Group. Scott drew up great plans, created a manageable budget, and helped us to visualize the space from the start. His team created a temporary kitchen in our living room and went to work while allowing us to keep up with our jobs and manage our small child. The result of the renovation was better than we imagined, on time, and on budget. Scott has a small team with a much wider network of subcontractors that want to work with him, because he pays them well and manages everything precisely. I can’t recommend this team enough. We couldn’t be happier with their work.

**★★★★★ — Robin Goldstein, Feb. 2021**

> I highly recommend using Scott Curtice for any renovation project no matter how complex it is. We bought a house that was over a hundred years old that had not been renovated for decades. Starting from the planning stage, Scott was wonderful about redesigning the house in order to open up the space and bring it into a more modern look. He spent several sessions reworking his plan always taking into account our needs and desires.
>
> Once the actual renovation began, we ran into a number of complex structural issues with the house itself. No matter what obstacle came up, Scott and his team were able to find solutions. His team was efficient in their work and they were all always reliable. In fact, many of our neighbors were astounded that all subcontractors worked on the home daily and that they actually were busy the entire time they were at our house. In addition, the lines of communication between ourselves and Scott, as well as his subcontractors, were always open. They kept us abreast of the project's updates and always made suggestions for ways to improve the work for aesthetics and/or cost savings ideas.
>
> Scott’s work was beautiful and he and his crew paid attention to every detail. The majority of the house required a gut renovation and it came out exquisite. Even after the job was complete, he was always available for questions. I would highly recommend using them for any job you have.

**★★★★★ — HU-126728713, Jan. 2021**

> Scott and his team were great at navigating our construction project during COVID-19. They built an exterior stairway to the section of the house they were working on and installed a barrier between the construction zone and the rest of the house. This let us live in the house while the workers had their own separated area. Our Project Manager Ray was fantastic! His communication was excellent and whenever we had questions he was great at taking the time to explain what he was doing. We love our new space and look forward to our next project with Scott and his team!

**★★★★★ — Jonathan Epstein, Oct. 2019**

> The renovation went extremely well. Unlike other contractors, we never experienced the typical complaint that they would have sudden work stoppages and that the schedule would continuously slip because things just never happened on time. Everything was delivered and executed as planned, the work was professional and careful, we received constant recommendations for minor enhancements (rather than just blindly "doing what was told"), and everything was transparent. As far as an experience, I can't imagine a better one. We're definitely hiring again for our next renovation!

**★★★★★ — Jodi Detjen, Jan. 2019**

> Scott is a consummate professional. He runs the projects like a business so you always know where you are in the process. Scott has essentially renovated our whole house - an 1890s Victorian Farmhouse. He hires the best subcontractors and construction workers - we really enjoy having them in our home. Scott is friendly, responsive, and a very creative problem solver. He also comes up with a solution to get out of construction challenges. We'll definitely hire Scott again for our next projects.

**Comment from The Curtice Group Inc:**

> Thanks for the kind words Jodi! I love working for you as you are so appreciative.

**★★★★★ — Brian Burba, Dec. 2018**

> We have used The Curtice Group for all of our home improvement projects in Newton. We started with a basement family room and bathroom, then a rebuilt master bath, followed by a total kitchen / dining area renovation and an entirely new sun room, and most recently new doors, windows and gutters. Our experience with Scott and his team was always outstanding. Scott's pricing and project management approach is simple and transparent, his team is prompt and thorough, and perhaps most importantly, when the inevitable challenge occurs, he is right there to help. The Curtice Group is most definitely our contractor of choice.

**Comment from The Curtice Group Inc:**

> Thanks Brian. Glad that you are happy with us. I feel like we know your house (and your family) very well by now!

**★★★★★ — STEPHEN MILLER, Dec. 2018**

> After the purchase of our house, we needed several things done: remove a wall between two bedrooms to make one large master bedroom, create a walk-in closet, and create a laundry space on our first floor. We initially found TCG by pulling the permits from the previous owners to find out who it was that did an amazing job at finishing the basement of our new house. We've have also used The Curtice Group to renovate our front porch- we were very happy with the results. We are in the process of using them again to renovate a back porch into an office, renovate two back steps, and other maintenance work. We've always been very happy with the work done by The Curtice Group- we highly recommend!

> Over the last 15 years, Scott has built a major addition on our previous house, plus two full bathroom renovations, and re-inforcement of a poorly-built garage (saving thousands - didn't need to be demolished). In between, whenever we had any issues with the house such as ice dam leaks, AC issues, electrical needs, he was always able to help. When we were ready to put the house on the market, he sent some of his team to prepare the house for selling.
>
> We moved to a new house. We have a one-car garage and decided to have storage units and shelves installed. We contacted Scott and one other company - in this case, a well-known building retail store. Scott proposed building large storage units with doors from scratch; fully utilizing the space between the corners and window trim; and allowing for storage of the garbage cans underneath. He also proposed using the length of the garage for shelves and accessories. The retail store proposal offered ready-made cabinetry with fixed dimensions and shelving in 4 + 8 feet lengths. Although their proposal was a few hundred dollars less than Scott, we would be getting a lot less storage, as the retail store had to work within the parameters of their unit dimensions. Also the quality of the finished product would not be as good.
>
> We selected Scott. We now have great storage space that I still haven't fully utilized. The installation went very well, the carpenter was neat and cleared all debris. The job came in on budget. As usual, we are fully satisfied with the quality of Scott and his team's work.
>
> I can't stress enough how invaluable the relationship has been over the years for us.

**Comment from The Curtice Group Inc:**

> Thanks again Jonathan! You are a great client and a great person. I feel like I know your whole family well after all the projects that we have been through together.

> I'm happy to give Scott Curtice my strongest positive recommendation.
>
> Our project went quite smoothly, staying on schedule thanks to the fact that my office is in the house and Scott's commitment to providing a foreman. This enabled us to make decisions quickly and address problems promptly.
>
> Scott and his crew showed a lot of creativity in meeting our requirement to stay in the house during the renovation, to the extent of setting up a temporary kitchen and shower in the basement. In the end, we only had to be out of the house for about a week. He was also very good about coordinating with our architect and the cabinetmaker that we selected ourselves.
>
> Having heard a few horror stories of renovation cost overruns, I think we also did well in this respect. Our final figure was about 10% more than the initial estimate due to the kind of unforeseen issues that can be expected on any such project, along with a few changes that we ordered. The level of detail Scott provides in his constantly updated spreadsheet also helped us to make some decisions that reduced our cost.

> Thanks David. You guys have been great to work for. I love your unique tile designs!
> Your project was fun to work on and really great to see how it came out!
