My passion for Interior Design started when I was young while visiting home improvement stores with my parents. I would collect all the paint chips, counter finish sets, brochures, etc. I could hold, and when we got home I would spend all day putting different looks together, I didn't know it then, but I was becoming a designer.

After receiving a B.A. in Interior Design from Kent State University in 2002, I turned my passion into a business. I opened Rae Décor in 2004 serving residential and light commercial clients of the east and west suburbs of Cleveland.

Today, I still get just as excited about each new client I meet and each new project I get to work on. I love helping clients find their style and watch it come to life in the plans I create for them.

> We hired Jessica to help with furniture, color and fabric selections for the Kitchen/Family Room in our new home. Jessica listened to our needs and came back with recommendations that met our goals and surpassed our expectations. She made suggestions for our space that we never would have come up with on our own. Jessica was easy to work with and was quick to respond to questions that we had along the way. We can't wait to contact her again when we are ready to begin remodeling our bathrooms!

**Comment from Rae Decor:**

> Thank you!! You guys were so much fun to work with.
> Loved putting together all the fabrics and color scheme.

**Comment from Rae Decor:**

> Jessica was a great help when we were moving into our new home. She helped us make design decisions on furniture and wall colors. I wouldn't have been able to do this project on my own.

> Rae Decor was exactly what I was looking for. I had just moved into a new home and needed some help picking out new pieces and coordinating with my existing furniture. Jessica listened to my needs and then came up with designs for my kitchen, living room, office, and mudroom that incorporated the furniture I wanted to use with new pieces. She stayed in budget and got the designs to me quickly. Her rates are very reasonable, and well-worth the time she saved me doing prices comparisons myself. I've gotten many compliments on the pieces she selected, and I've already recommended her to friends.

> I needed some seasonal decor like fall to winter deor. And I got Fall decorations that transitioned into winter beautifuly. I shared some photos of what I liked (my style) and she came back with some great pieces that I still use today in my new home!

> Our first experience with Jessica was In 2008 when we downsized from a large home to a much smaller & different style of home & could not fit most of our furniture. Jessica helped us in determining what type & style of furniture & color schemes to use. From the very beginning she was able to guide us each step of the way understanding that due to our budget, we would be unable to do everything at once.
>
> We have continued to work with Jessica for the past 4 yrs. through the individual rooms & even through each of the holidays to assist in decorating. We have come to realize the difference with the assistance of a professional & continue to hire her on a regular basis with each & every project.
>
> Her ability to point us in the right direction with only a few descriptive ideas of what we are looking for is truly amazing. We continue to receive compliments on our decor & do not do anything without checking with her first!

> She was well-prepared, reliable, and innovative. I truly enjoyed working with Jessica. She worked hard to stay within my budget, while providing a stunning room.

## Community Q&A

**Q: 1960's boring tan/peach brick ranch rambler need update advice please!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We love the interior character of our home. We are in the process of massive landscaping projects. Meanwhile, we have replaced the exterior lights and added antique bronze barn lights on each side of the garage and the front door. We removed the pale green shutters and we replaced the front door with a chocolate brown door with sidelights on each side. The pictures do not reflect the new lights, door or shutter removal. We want to update the trim colors to this house but leave the brick as is. The roof is a newer black
25 year roof so we cannot change that but we really want to do something to make this boring brick ranch look updated. Advice? Please?

A: Agree on painting the brick, if the brick is a timeless color, I would never say that, but peach is not. I would replace the railings and columns with something more substantial, wood, cedar etc.

**Q: Need budget friendly ideas for cabinet/counter for ski condo** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We will be making some cosmetic changes to our ski condo. I would like ideas for budget friendly quartz or other engineered stone surfaces to replace the "faux wood" countertops. Ideally less than $70/sft, and I definitely don't want granite. We plan on painting the cabinets, which are sturdy but tired (and dark), and replacing the hardware, possibly adding a backsplash, such as this decorative lodge aluminum backsplash, which comes in many colors: http://www.decorativeceilingtiles.net/0512-gwens-cabin-backsplash. We will eventually replace the floor as well.
The area is small and does not have a lot of natural light. What are your suggestions for cabinet paint color, quartz color, and/or wall color and backsplash? Other budget friendly ideas?

A: Have you considered concrete counters, a basic design and edging can run along the lines of the $70/sft budget and for a lodge feel, with a lot of wood tones its a nice material and mix.
I think painting the cabinets in a white or medium gray and leaving the beams on the ceiling in the wood tone would be a nice contrast and make it feel like a ski lodge.
A stone backsplash would be nice, they make a lot of rustic, lodge-like stone tiles that look like they normally would go on the outside of a house, but as your KBS. Since you don't have s lot of backsplash it would be a splurge, but a nice accent.

**Q: New house kitchen -what to do?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Oak cabinets are in excellent condition. They are light oak colored. Countertops are cream colored Corion also in good condition. Flooring is brand new very light gray laminate. Ugh! How do I make it look not so bland?? Thinking of staining the cabinets darker or painting them gray except my husband hates painted cabinets. Help!

A: Agree go with a dark brown or gray-wash stain on cabinets better look then painting when you are dealing with oak. Also incorporating a backsplash that has light grays, dark grays, browns etc. may help tie it all together.

**Q: Please help with designing large shower or keeping shower/tub design** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Currently have a 9ft 4" x 3ft 8" wide space. Photo of room is attached.

A: If you have another tub in the house then go for the large shower. You can always have a built-in bench/seat in case you need to be able to sit. Most of the time tubs are a waste of space and unused unless they are needed for someone in the household. There are a lot more options you can utilize in a large shower, such as dual heads, steam options, and sprayers. Also the larger walls allow for more design space. You can mix tiles in patterns and sizes for interest.

**Q: Letters..** *(in Photo Questions)*

Could you let me know where you sourced the metal letters and if they have an online option?

Thank you.

A: Hello! Actually all the metal letters I found were very pricey and we were on a budget for this project, so I found papier-mâché letters at a craft store and spray painted them with metallic silver.

**Q: Backsplash: 4 inch granite like counter top or tile??** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I have a new house under construction. The countertops are a creamy golden granite with lots of movement. The floor is shown in the attached photo ( this was at the tile store not in my house). The cabinets are natural cherry and are shown in the photo below being installed. I can't figure out what to do for a backsplash. The floor is very natural but had lots of cream, golden yellow, terracotta, brown and lots of veins and swirls. The countertop (no photo, sorry) is beautiful and natural art as well. SO, should I just get a 4 inch piece of the granite for a backsplash and paint above that for simplicity or do a tile or something else. Our style is rustic/farmhouse/industrial/art gallery. The house is on 20 acres and is all open plan. We have original art as well as interesting steampunk art ( repurposed antique tools in new functions). The countertops go in on Thursday so if I am going with granite backsplash I should tell them right away so they bring it along. Thanks Houzzers!!!

A: I feel just leaving the 4" granite backsplash makes the room seem unfinished. Since your floor, granite and wood grain on cabinets are busy, I would do a ceramic glazed subway in all once color such as CERAMICA ALHAMBRA by Walker Zanger at http://walkerzanger.com/collections/products.php?view=mat&mat=Ceramic and Terracotta&coll=Ceramica Alhambra. Good luck! It looks like you have already made some great choices.
