It was fairly extensive and involved removing a wall and ceiling from our existing layout. The process was very smooth and we were impressed with both Eric and Jeff's work as well as the sub contractors they hired. Project was completed within the timeframe and budget we originally agreed to which is impressive given the supply chain and labor issues these days. The remodel was a complete gut-job of lower and main levels, plus a 10 foot addition to the back of the house. We did the project in 2 phases over 2 years, living in the lower level after it was finished, while the main floor was being worked on. Specifically, what we loved so much about Sol Structures was: the transparency and accuracy of their estimates-we never had any surprises with the line item expenses. The quality of the workmanship and professionalism of theirs and their sub's work-they were supervised well, and our satisfaction with the work was always respected. Jeff and Eric were both great communicators, and we felt we could talk to them about any concerns we had. They were great problem solvers, and have a knack for managing expectations. They also worked well with our architect, their engineer for some structural issues we had, and a couple of artisans we brought into the project. They helped us through a variance issue with the city, as well. At the beginning of our project we felt that they were a good match for us in terms of understanding our vision for a basement build out in an old home. Unfortunately, they were not able to manage our project on many levels. What was supposed to be a 14 to 18 week project turned out to be a difficult year of rework, last minute decisions, miscommunication, and overall stress. I honestly regret not taking the opportunity to have then stop work about 2 months into the project as I could see at that time that things were not going well. In the end, Sol was not able to finish the scope of the project and I left learning many difficult and expensive lessons about working with a general contractor. **★★★★★ — byoungquist, Sept. 2012** > Eric Newcomer, Jeff Henke, and their in house interior designer did an amazing job with our project from start to finish. The team's communication was outstanding during the entire project, and their concern for our comfort during the remodel (which we lived through) was genuine. We invited Sol Structures to our home well in advance of the project starting date and they almost immediately put things in motion. We talked extensively about our "pie in the sky" vision and they brought in all of the necessary subs to bid the jobs. > While we were not able to do everything we had envisioned, Sol was incredibly flexible and adapted plans as necessary. They hired friendly, courteous, and skilled subs that were easy to have in our home. They gave us a detailed budget and timeline for the work to be done, and they totally adhered to it! One of the most impressive aspects of Sol is that they communicate very regularly with meetings, phone calls, and e-mails so you always know what will be happening when. > The work included was adding a deck and patio to the back of our home off of the kitchen, increasing parking, finishing a garage, adding a storage room under our front porch, kitchen and bathroom updates, remodeling a bedroom into a functional art studio, adding wood flooring and stairs, adding custom closets and cabinetry, updating lighting, interior and exterior painting, stonework, and tile. > Our home functions beautifully for our family's needs and we receive so many compliments from friends, family, and passersby!
