> Savoie Nolan Architects are extremely talented professionals who take a great deal of time and effort to design the perfect home for their clients. We worked with them on two separate homes within nine years. The first was a waterview home on a ridge that we loved from the minute we saw the plans. When we had the opportunity to purchase a waterfront location in our area, there was no question as to who we would use for the new design. Each home incorporated all the items on our wish list while making the most of the views. We consider ourselves lucky to have worked with Savoie Nolan and would highly recommend them to anyone.

> We recommend Savoie Nolan Architects with the highest regard. They designed our custom coastal home on which we’ve just broken ground. We chose SN after interviewing a handful of local architects and chose them because they listened more and talked less. They proved to be an excellent match for us: professionals who solicited our ideas, listened well, and helped us translate our imaginings into a design esthetic that complements our beautiful yet environmentally sensitive setting.
> Building a home in the present moment requires patience while navigating the many conservation, public health and building permits required, as well as rising materials costs and supply chain bottlenecks. SN has met our needs and we expect our newly built home will exceed our expectations.

> The Savoie Nolan Team worked with us to design our new construction home and we would highly
> recommend them to anyone! Just look at the photos of their work to see what they bring to the table!
> They were outstanding to work with. They were professional, responsive, creative, and worked
> with us to achieve our budget goals, while still designing a home which met our
> living needs and wants, in addition to providing some really spectacular and creative WOW elements.
> They were simply a really a nice group of people and made the whole experience a pleasure.
> They are exceptional in their field!

> DO not use this little firm. We never received our final drawings. It was a terrible experience; they just produced 3 basic cookie cutter design proofs from their simple design software. Embarrassingly enough, they were very extremely sensitive that we didn't like their sample proofs.
>
> We paid our bill but withheld the last $600 (10% of the bill). They are so small time and clearly desperate, they sent that amount to collections. They never did any work and obviously never produced final drawing (that was stipulated in the contract).
>
> Oh well; most of the blame is on us. We didn't do our homework researching these guys. They try hard and seem nice but unfortunately they dont have the expertise, experience nor professionalism to provide solutions. I hope I can save someone else money.

**Comment from Savoie Nolan Architects:**

> We are sorry the client was dissatisfied with services and take this seriously. We would like to provide some context for this review.
>
> At the initial meeting the importance of the budget was a key topic of discussion. We tried to show options that; improved the house, achieve the main goals, and worked with the budget. Unfortunately, achieving all the project goals was not realistic for the budget.
>
> We can make improvements to most homes, even with a modest budget. In the end, if the owner does not feel the improvements are worth the investment, then we support their decision to not move forward but expect to be paid for our services.
>
> If an issue with payment comes up, we always prefer to work directly with clients to resolve the matter – however the client also needs to be willing to work with us.
>
> We wish them luck.

**★★★★★ — Jackie Gully, Nov. 2016**

> Savoie Architecture, specifically Ken Savoie and John Fennell, designed the major renovation (essentially a complete interior gut with a 2nd floor addition) of our Ipswich home. Not only did they do a wonderful job, but they did it very efficiently, coming in under the architectural services estimate. They did this by listening carefully and thoughtfully to our ideas, preferences and family needs.
> Our home is just under 1500 square feet so every inch had to be usable/functional space, and it is. From the lovely staircase with the storage areas underneath, to the design of functional hallways, to the super-efficient pantry, our little spot performs like a 2500 square foot home.
> We enjoyed the process of working with the Savoie team and are thrilled with the final product.

**Comment from Savoie Nolan Architects:**

> Hello Jackie - Thank you for your kind words! It is great to hear the space is working well for you and your family!

**★★★★★ — User, Oct. 2014**

> I would highly recommend Ken Savoie and his team at Savoie Architecture as you embark on anything from a renovation to the building of your new dream home. Ken has a wealth of knowledge, time and time again designing amazing homes for his clients. He listens to and interprets his clients' needs and wishes at every turn, and has been a joy to work with over the years. I very much look forward to collaborating with Savoie Architecture on many more projects in the future!

The gentle sweep of the shingled walls meeting the stone base visually grounds the house to the site. This home was carefully designed and sited to preserve and enjoy the mature trees on its gently rolling site, particularly the large white birches and sturdy oaks. Trees surround the house; even the front walkway is paved with sections of cedar logs. The design of this home is a blend of Arts & Crafts and Shi…

 - Location: Manchester, MA
 - Photos: 14
 - Description: Renovation of a 19th century gambrel manor house sitting a top the cliffs of Manchester by the Sea, overlooking the Atlantic. This home was altered in the 70’s and lost most of its character due to the removal of a large section of the home, inappropriate use of materials and installation of casement windows. The goal of the renovation was to restore the original character, balance, and beauty that had been lost through previous alterations.

 - Description: This small cottage style residence was constructed on the footprint of a former cottage just a few feet from the water's edge. Despite its modest size of 1,300 square feet, the home feels open and airy. Our design goal was to maintain the scale and features of a cottage in keeping with the seaside community. Covered porches, an entry arbor, and even the clay chimney pots lend character and charm.

## Community Q&A

**Q: flooring** *(in Photo Questions)*

is that a composite or wood decking over top of a concrete porch base? we are thinking of doing that ( composite decking )over top of our concrete porch &any tips would be much appreciated

A: The screened porch on the left is built on a wood framed floor over an open crawl space.
If you are building over a concrete slab I suggest installing pressure treated wood sleepers over the slab for fastening the wood or composite deck
