This review is specific to the 2014 work. In the initial design stages, Chris listened to our needs and gave us several options covering different price points and levels of detail. He suggested further ideas that we hadn't considered. He is very thorough in his designs and drawings. He explained very technical archetectural concepts to us in layman's terms. He knows the local city requirements well. He worked well with both us and the builders, from deadlines to onsite detailing. He has a very calm demeanor in what can often be hot situations, but he's firm and very fair. > > I love our new bathroom. With Chris's help, we designed an extremely functional yet attractive second bath out of a tiny space. The many details are: removing the swing door and replacing it with a pocket door to maximize space inside the room; using a glass shower door instead of a curtain to give the impression of a bigger room; electrical outlets in the vanity cabinet and drawers for toothbrush, hairdryer, etc.; heated floors. Two of my favorite details are the addition of a skylight in this interior room -- Chris's idea, and it's fantastic! So much light -- and again, makes the tiny room feel spacious. The most recent project was a rear screen porch and patio. After listened to our desires to reclaim our back yard from the mosquitos, Chris designed a slightly modern outdoor entertaining space off the back of our traditional 1920s American Foursquare. The results were the blend of the traditional screen porch (beadboard ceiling, ipe flooring) with modern features (recessed LED lighting, ceiling fans, all-weather speakers) creating a perfect bug-free entertaining space. A: Hi.. Thank you for your question. The columns and screen framing are all made of wood. The base of the columns are PVC. **Q: who makes the lighting tracks for the floor joists?** *(in Photo Questions)* who makes the lighting tracks for the floor joists? A: We had our client confirm the installed product product for us. Their pictures show the The manufacturer is actually Lightolier. The model is an older version (2012) of the Sof-Tech MR16 track spot head. We have checked their website. They still make a version, but it’s not clear you’ll be able to achieve the same “back-lighting” effect we were able to get with the older versions. There’s plenty of similar options to choose from, though. I hope this helps.... **Q: How deep is this island?** *(in Photo Questions)* We are trying to figure out if an island that is 8 ft long x 2.5 ft deep will work or if that is too narrow. We can't make it wider because our kitchen isn't wide enough. A: Hi. Thank you for your question. The island base cabinets are 3’-0” deep x 9’-8” wide. The countertop overhang is approximately 1 inch on all sides. Therefore, the total countertop dimension is 3’-2” x 9’-10”. I have seen islands with base cabinets as narrow as 24” designed as a successful use of space. I would go for it, if I were you. One thing to consider is clear dimensions for your aisles between the island and adjacent spaces. I recommend you try to maintain at least 42 inches clear space in front of appliances.
