Estes/Twombly's work consists of simple, innovative designs with firm roots in the New England tradition.
We approach projects with the belief that the best solutions are logical and direct, that a good design will appear inevitable.

After years of work on projects in the northeast, our design aesthetic has evolved into a quiet modernism based on traditional methods and materials, with a sensitivity to local site and climatic conditions. Every site is different and necessarily requires a unique solution, whether it is responding to a view, a neighbor or the terrain. Through careful siting and design, we can break down the usual solid wall between indoors and outdoors, extending the warm seasons and providing natural heat and ventilation, in spite of the rugged New England climate.

> As the proud owner of the Kyle Cottage, I highly recommend Jim Estes, Estes/Twombly Architects, Inc. for his professional and creative expertise.  He took into account on the first site visit the direction of the sun, wind, topography, my budget and the design requirements I requested.  After the first site visit schematics were sent to me to review.  The design was more than I could have imagined.  The design not only echoed the feel of Cape Cod but brought it to a more contemporary level inside and outside.  The cottage was brought in on time and on budget.  Plus it has won two design awards.

Can you tell me anything about the sliding doors?  Much cleaner and modern look than barn doors with visible hardware.

A: In the photo you are looking through the doorway. The door hinges to the right wall.
A counter with 2 sinks and toilet are on the wall opposite the tub & shower.

A: It is Honduras Mahogany. Clear stain.
