## Community Q&A

**Q: Need help picking an exterior color** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I bought this house in a little over a year ago. I would like to paint it some sort of shade of green (olive? sage?). I'm open to any suggestions. The gutters and sophets are brown and the roof is brown with what looks like some green in it. I need to sort of match the houses next door-one is red and the other is an ivory color. I would like the trim a white color and fun colors for my doors. Same color on garage door as trim or the rest of the house? It used to have shutters but I took them down. Ignore my landscaping-still late winter where I live!! How hard is it to put a small porch on this house or at least a railing?

**Q: What Colour for My 2-storey interior walls?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are moving next month, the center wall on the main floor is 17' high and slopes downward to 8' - the 17' wall is shared with the kitchen & living room. We are repainting the whole space 2 days after we take possession. The basement is a walkout with a family room. We can't decide whether to put our green living room furniture or our dark brown leather furniture on the main floor so I need a neutral colour that goes with both. The new kitchen will be white with white/black speckled counters and gray floors. Living room floor is neutral parquet flooring. I don't really want tans/browns (have that now) and had greens before that. The 8' wall is all windows and one side wall has 2 storey windows. Any suggestions for colour and also possible accent wall and colour?

**Q: Renovating a 160 yr old flour mill into our  home** *(in Before & After)*

We saved a piece of history in our area in SW Wisconsin. An old flour mill was destined for destruction and we took it and moved it to property we owned a few miles down the road from where it originally stood. We have been working on it for over 3 yrs now and have been able to call it our home as of November 2015. We still have many things to do, but they are minor in comparison of what we started with. Here are a few photos of before and after.

**Q: Extreme Transformation-Traditional to Minimalist Modern** *(in Before & After)*

Our client wanted a unique, modern space. The biggest challenge was redesigning the fireplace. It was out of proportion in relation to the ceiling height (22') and the built-in cabinets were outdated and dwarfed the firebox. We came up with a design to integrate both the staircase and fireplace that added soft geometric form and unity to the large great room. The artwork above the fireplace was painted by our principal designer to compliment the room without competing with the design.
