Welcome HOME. Michael Ranson, ASID is an Interior Designer that specializes in Kitchen and Bath Design, Interior Planning, Custom Cabinetry and Architectural Details The very best interiors start with listening to a client's needs. I'll strive to enhance your lifestyle through thoughtful and great design, never forgetting that this is your home. I will work with your contractor or connect you with one of the many I have worked with on past projects. Please contact me direct at 619-977-1121 to discuss how I can help you with your project.

Your HOME + my atelier. The word atelier means, "the studio of an artist or designer." The very best projects start with listening to my client's needs and aesthetic desires and then combining that information with my experience, resources and talent for design. I strive to enhance your lifestyle through thoughtful and great design, never forgetting that it is a privilege to help you with your home.

Many kitchen and bath designers are attached to certain cabinetry lines and vendors. I believe this limits the possibilities of your design. My clients know that I am designing specific to their needs and not to what a particular cabinet manufacturer may offer. As part of the design process, I can offer a complete set of bid drawings that my clients can take to their chosen contractor. Clients may also choose to use one of the many contractors I have successfully worked with on past projects. Multiple construction bids help my clients feel confident that they are getting a fair price on their personalized design.

If you are planning an upgrade or update in your home, please don't hesitate to contact me. 619-977-1121 The process of working together is really very easy. It starts with a simple phone call and discussion of the scope of your project. From there I offer a complimentary meeting in your home where I get to know you and the spaces you plan to remodel.

> Thrilled with our kitchen remodel design by Michael. The transformation was beyond our expectations in the small footprint of our 1959 home with the original kitchen (yes, original). Relocating the doors enhanced flow, and kudos to Michael for incorporating my husband’s modern design taste with my love for the mid-century style. The seamless collaboration of our shared visions made our new kitchen a dream come true!

> There aren't enough positives I can say about HOME + atelier/Michael Ranson and the service he provided us with. We initially consulted him to help us to do a small refresh of our living room in our East County home. Due largely to his creative ideas and “what if” mind set we are now, over a year later, not only enjoying that great new space but also a beautiful primary bedroom with new bathroom, a guest bedroom reimagined, and an awesome walk in pantry. He did all of our drawings, offered trade referrals, met with us to choose all the materials needed for the job, and so many other things that could have easily been overlooked without his attention to detail. He always made himself available to answer any questions or concerns. Michael was our advocate through all phases of construction. I found him incredibly easy to work with and loved that he quickly understood the aesthetic we wanted and delivered exactly that! I found him to be competitively priced and appreciated that he found out of the box ways to keep the project running smoothly and stay within our budget. Not only would I highly recommend him, I will be using him again for a new kitchen next!

> I could not be happier! Michael is a joy to work with and our home is beautiful now. He helped me with upgrades to the front of the house, living room, master bed and bath, hall bathroom and family room. He worked directly with the contractor and was very adept at solving problems and making sure everything came out the way we planned. My husband is an engineer and appreciated Michael's eye for precision and detail. There were a few bumps in the road, as with any project, but Michael very calmly and professionally navigated everything. My husband and I are very happy with how nice our home looks.

> I love working with Michael. Not only is his work great and creative, he is also very easy to work with. When he is in charge of one of our house projects, I appreciate he is on time, on budget and efficient. When we hire him to complete a space in our house, he makes it easy for my wife and I to make decisions and it always ends up making the house more enjoyable and user friendly. I highly recommend him.

> Michael is a talented, designer dedicated to providing quality work for each of his clients. When He remodeled my entire upstairs, I asked that he add a bathroom, a bedroom and a laundry room. Michael dipped into his trove of ideas, utilized his excellent drawing skills, and Miraculously created a warm, beautiful space that included the requested rooms.
>
> Since then, Michael’s designed a number of projects for me, including his latest, a guest bath.. He expanded tha space visually so it feels doubles the actual size. The tile Michael selected is unusual, fits the space perfectally and creats a breathtaking visual impact. As he has always done with our projects, Michael translated my ideas and personal style into a reality that was better than any design I could have imagined.

> I bought my condominium through the eyes of a couple of friends and purchased sight it unseen. I was living in Florida with plans to move to San Diego and needed a designer to jump start my remodel. I hired Michael Ranson as my designer and he was a tremendous help; he selected the wood flooring from a picture I sent and proceeded to have several other options available for me to see upon my arrival. He accompanied me on many shopping trips such as granite selection, bathroom hardware etc. He helped me to place all of my art. I would not have this special condominium without Michael's help and expertise and I thought his fees were very reasonable. Thank you - 5 stars for you, Michael.

> Michael was great to work with. Not only did he do the complete design for our kitchen remodel, he coordinated all the contractors and material suppliers for us since we were out of town during much of the construction. He was great in assisting us with the selection of tile, quartz counter tops, appliances and the design of custom cabinets. Michael was very attentive during the entire process and we loved the final product.

> Michael redesigned my kitchen and connecting great room area, and he also did the interior decorating. Additionally, he selected the appliances. He did a superb job, transforming a 60 year old tired kitchen into a stunningly modern kitchen and connecting great room. He has great ideas and is extremely easy to work with. I was gone much of the time to Chicago, so Michael handled much of the coordination with contractors himself. When necessary, he emailed me photos to facilitate decisions. He is a talented interior decorator and designer, a truly reliable professional who has excellent contacts and subcontractors. Michael is an excellent planner and coordinator, so there are no surprises. I recommend him without reservation.

**★★★★★ — ARTO, May 2018**

> There is nothing more rewarding than having a designer understand and utilize our product to create a gorgeous home. Michael Ranson did a phenomenal job using our ceramic tile indoor and transitioning that pattern into our concrete tile outside. The flow is fantastic. He uses different shapes and patterns with the same color in a clever way to bring each room to life. His attention to detail and continuity makes meandering through this home a pleasure. The use of our hand-painted deco tiles for the stair risers gives the steps a pop of color that works well in this masculine Mediterranean style home. We look forward to collaborating more with Mr. Ranson as he delves more into his creative designs.

**Comment from H O M E + atelier Michael Ranson:**

> Thank you for the kind words. It was great to have a quality product with so many size and shape options to work with while designing the various spaces. Having ARTO provide me with appropriate literature and full size samples was a great help as well when working with my client. Those, along with drawings of the space, really allowed them to see on paper, and in samples, what the finished project would look like.
>
> I'm looking forward to working with the ARTO team again.

> We worked with Michael on a project and he was absolutely a delight to work with. He provided timely information, was very competent in his field, and very professional. Payments were made as we agreed and were timely. He was very understanding when minor issues arose and was pleasant, courteous, and a true pleasure to work with!

> We recently completed a five month long remodel on our home. It was a major project and a big financial commitment. We wanted to build our dream home but also wanted keep within our budget. In the beginning, we debated using a design professional. Fortunately, we listened to our friends who were using Michael on their project and enlisted his services. It was the best decision! Michael was instrumental during the design and construction phases of our remodel. Now, he is helping us with the interior decorating. Michael's knowledge, creativity and professionalism are incredible. The construction process was overwhelming at first but Michael's expertise helped keep us focused and most importantly, on budget. Michael carefully listened to what our family's needs were and helped transform our home into exactly what we were hoping to accomplish with our remodel. We couldn't be happier with the results!

> We are currently doing a kitchen expansion and remodel. Michael has been great to work with from the beginning of our project. A few years ago we began thinking about how to make our kitchen more functional for our family. Based on a friend's recommendation, we spoke with Michael, and he helped us work through whether we could utilize the current footprint are if we needed to expand. His ideas and initial drawings helped us understand the scope of the project and get a better sense of what we wanted to accomplish with our remodel.
>
> Once we decided to add square footage, we took a break to save up for the bigger project. When we were ready to move forward, Michael stepped back in and helped refine our ideas and work out the details. We have been working from the detailed CAD drawings he provided to the contractor. We meet via phone or in person regularly to insure everything from the exact placement of lighting to the way the cabinets meet the wall are coming along as planned.
>
> I have had some very strong opinions about the way this kitchen will look and function from the beginning, but once we got into the nitty gritty of making some of these decisions, it has been so nice to have a professional on board. Michael helps me keep track of my initial vision when things start to get crazy in the midst of construction. He notices details that I, being new to remodeling, would not. His attention to detail and commitment to making sure things have been done right has been invaluable as we go through this process.
>
> He has also been great about fitting in meetings or helping with decisions when it suddenly needs to be done "right now." When I can't quite picture what we're talking about, Michael will find pictures on Houzz to help me visualize what I'm making a decision about.
>
> I can't say enough great things about working with Michael on our project. I can't wait to come back and post some pictures when it's completed!!

**Comment from H O M E + atelier Michael Ranson:**

> Thank you Cory! Great to work with a client that has "strong opinions". You being very active in the process and our clear communication about the desired outcome is a large part of what has made it a success. It's been a pleasure working with you since day one!

## Community Q&A

**Q: love your tile. can you tell me where you bought it?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I am renovating a powder room and would love to use it

A: Thank you. You can find the product on the Arto website here: https://www.arto.com/project-detail?name=Del-Mar-Bathroom&id=81

**Q: what is the length of the wall where the vanity is?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Wall measurement?

A: Hi Teresa, Not sure, it's been several years. Happy to provide a virtual consult with your project. Thanks!

**Q: What floor tile is used here?** *(in Photo Questions)*

We are looking for a similar tile but can’t find it anywhere.

A: Sure thing. Feel free to reach out if you'd like assistance with tile layouts or other design elements. With CAD drawings and teleconference it is very easy to work with clients outside of San Diego.

**Q: The tile on the staircase in this photo?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Can you tell me the name and distributor or vender - where I can purchase the tile use on the riser's of this staircase. In particular the two tiles from the bottom - the yellow cross with blue accent, the tile above with dark blue center, and the fourth tile from the bottom with the red accent with yellow and orange or tan. Thank you. I've been looking for tile for months and LOVE these.

A: Thanks Adam. I am just seeing this so thanks for jumping in. Beverly, if you need design assistance or more info on the exact tiles used, feel free to reach out.

**Q: Backsplash** *(in Photo Questions)*

I was wondering if you knew the name and color of the patterned tile behind the stove? It's beautiful! Where did you find it? Thank you!

A: Thank you. These are cudtom colored tiles from Country Floors in Los Angeles. Feel free to contact me for design assistance if needed. Best, Michael

**Q: What color is on the walls?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: It's a Venetian plaster that starts with a couple different colors that I select from a paint fan deck. Then the artist combines them in different amounts and application to create the finish. This was done a couple years ago so I really have know way of confirming those starter colors at this point.
