## Community Q&A

**Q: is this poison ivy?** *(in Before & After)*

northwest Michigan

A: I think that's raspberry or blackberry - poison ivy leaves are usually not as serrated, like Rachel above said!

**Q: Help with curb appeal** *(in Porches & Decks)*

We bought a 1950s rancher and would like to add some curb appeal by landscaping and also adding a porch or portico. I love the look of a craftsman portico just not sure how that would look on our home. Any suggestions would be helpful. thanks! We are also planning on taking the antenna down.

A: Great ideas! A portico/porch combo would really dress up the front of your house. I think Colonial/traditional would match your house better but craftsman style is always beautiful!

A pic below of one of our portico/porch combos leading to a driveway:

**Q: Please help with Quartz selection :-)** *(in Remodeling)*

Hi Everyone!
I'm planning a bathroom reno and am in the process of selecting stone. My bathroom will be a contemporary look with light-gray tiles and a gloss-white (or maybe gloss-gray) vanity (line draing below):
When looking at stone I seemed to favour the white marble look. Here are a couple of options I have so far:
Pearl Jasmine (Silestone) -- 1.25" from From Home Depot

Calacatta Venice (MSI) -- 3/4" Remnant from Specialty Sop
Misterio (Vicostone) -- 1.25" Remnant from Specialty Shop

Any thoughts on these options? :)

A: I like the Calcatta Venice looks the best! The Calacatta Classic one is awesome looking too! The thicker, gray veins will look wonderful with your tile/vanity choice :D

**Q: Does my front porch need railing?** *(in Porches & Decks)*

Our new home sits on a hill and can be a bit high on the end. Does it need railing?

A: I think wrought iron railing looks great with brick houses! Or if you have extra money, do cable railing with white posts to match the porch columns :) Good luck!

**Q: Desserts by State** *(in Cooking)*

I thought this was kinda cute. Was a little surprised that TX’s dessert was not Flan, as the Mexican influence is so strong. Do you agree with your state dessert?
Desserts by State

A: Massachusetts got it right with the Boston Creme Pie!

But Virginia's Lemon Chess Pie threw me off!

**Q: Update help needed** *(in Remodeling)*

We will be replacing the windows, door and garage door. I think we will remove the bay window. Should we paint the brick? Love to have any feed back! Thanks in advance

A: Perhaps leave the brick unpainted, remove the shutters as Denita suggested, and have a dark door/garage door/window trim? Good luck with your project!
