Gild & Wit Interiors is a full service interiors firm creating high-end residential interiors, from individual rooms to entire homes. Services include construction management and owner advocacy, style development, space planning, custom furniture design, color consulting, redesign of existing spaces and shopping & styling services.

I am Sara Fred Hoffman and Gild & Wit Interiors is my interior design firm. I live in the Chicago neighborhood of Lincoln Park (by way of Sweden, Oak Park, Atlanta, and Boston) with my husband and 3 kids. You will find style influences from the places I have lived in the work that I do. I feel that real life is the best inspiration and real experiences are the best school.

I began my design career organically as a kid when my parents let me have free reign over my room and furniture. They learned the hard way that giving me free reign meant that I didn't think twice when decoupage-ing a family heirloom. Eventually I left home and would design and consulting for everyone I could from friends for their college dorm rooms to my parents' friend's homes. As an adult I freelanced in design while I spent my days in Health Care. Soon I found that my love for design, which once filled my nights and weekends was spilling into my work days too. Eventually I left my desk job entirely and started working for a designer in Boston.

Finally, fueled by my passion for people, design and a growing client base, I went legit. Here we are these years later and I have worked on projects of all sizes from full house gut renovations to studio apartment furniture plans.

Gild & Wit's philosophies are simple.

I believe good design should be for all people and all budgets. Form and function must coexist equally to create the best interiors and a little bit of wit and whimsy make it home.

**★★★★★ — Porta A, March 2018**

> We worked with Sara and Beth to redesign our kitchen in a vintage brick cottage. While we wanted the amenities of a modern (and expanded) kitchen, we also wanted to preserve the classic charm of the home.
>
> After interviewing several designers we felt they'd be the most collaborative (we wanted to be heavily involved in the process as opposed to just being given a design) and also had the most straightforward pricing structure.
>
> The process of designing with them was fantastic. We had an initial meeting to gain an understanding of what was important to us. They returned with several layout options as well as design concepts, which we narrowed down and iterated over. Each step of the way they were very responsive to our feedback and seamlessly incorporated into the final design.
>
> Our contractors also appreciated the thoroughness of the construction documents they provided. The detailed drawings made it clear where the rough-ins needed to go.
>
> At the end of the day, we wound up with our "Scavolini" kitchen (at the fraction of the cost); timeless elegance that melds well with the classic features of our home. We wound up expanding the scope to include helping design layouts and select furniture for our dining and living rooms. Will work with again and highly recommend folks to check Gild and Wit out!

**Comment from Gild & Wit Interiors:**

> Thank you so much for your kind review. We are thrilled that you are so happy with your kitchen and first floor! It was such a pleasure to work with you during this exciting time for your family. We can't wait to hear about all the incredible memories you will make in your new space.

> Sara is a creative genius who keeps your budget in mind. It's truly a talent she has to find out exactly what you want (even if you dont know what you like) and selects items that fit the space perfectly (by using autoCAD). This was our first time using a designer, and we were a bit skeptical about spending money on a service like this. We were blown away. Sara suggested things that were truly custom choices. Nothing cookie-cutter about this. We ended up with an absolutely beautiful house, we are so happy! As a person - Sara is easy to work with, a great listener, and has definitely been around the block before. We will ABSOLUTELY use her again!

**★★★★★ — Gillian Chambers, May 2017**

> My husband and I started using Gild & Wit because we needed furniture for a new condo. We loved the furniture layout and plan so much that over the past 3 years we have used them for custom built-ins, full renovations of both bathrooms, the master bedroom, outdoor patio, and a new nursery. We were really impressed with what she could do with our limited budget. She was also really good at helping us figure out what was worth the cost and what was not. We love working with Sara and highly recommend her to anyone needing design services!

**★★★★★ — Lee Norton, March 2017**

> As a professional builder/remodeler with over 35 years of experience, it is a pleasure to work with fellow professionals- those who understand quality, cost effectiveness, and scheduling constraints.
> Our company worked with Sara and Beth on a large remodel project in Chicago; I found them easy to work with, and responsive to the clients needs- and my subcontractor's questions. We updated an expensive 10 year old home with a new master bathroom, new kid's bath, updated kitchen with new cabinets, etc., etc., following prints and drawings they had prepared for us- very well done, with a beautiful finished product.
> I recommend them to anyone who needs interior design professionals.

 - Description: A beautiful Nantucket Vacation home for a young family that was in need of some serious updating. We wanted to do this large home with minimal construction to make the most of a tight budget. A design concept with new furniture, lighting, paint, wallpaper, window treatments was what it took to make this home feel brand new. Special spaces like a separate kids art/play area and a romantic master bedroom suite make it so everyone in the family has a place to get away.

 - Description: This ten year old home felt dated and cold before it received a major facelift for this fun young family. We tackled the kitchen, family room, two fireplaces, two sets of custom built-ins, a playroom, and 3 bathrooms. Most importantly the family couldn't be happier with the results!

 - Description: My master in 101 was fairly large. Easily fit a queen sized bed, 3 huge ikea Pax wardrobes, a dresser, and the midcentury loveseat. When I designed this room my husband asked me to please keep the "stuff" to a minimum. He said he wanted an "ocean of tranquility" and so that's what I tried to create for him. Bedrooms are super important. If you don't have a relaxing place to wind down at the end of the night, you won't get that great night sleep, you will feel cranky and frown and inevitably get…
