So, they recommended a tile contractor (InLine Tile and Stone, LLC), and we accepted the contractor bid. The contractor, Nathan Pedersen, was NOT competent; he literally FLOODED OUR KITCHEN CEILING! He covered over an open, active plumbing connection and in his rush to go home, TURNED ON THE WATER, which was to check the "water-tightness" of his installation of the shower pan and curb. He did NOT allow for the adhesive and sealant to cure fully AND, due to the incompetent tile board installation - flooded our lower level and has caused OVER 8K IN DAMAGES TO OUR HOME. > > We are now in the middle of a liability claim against InLine Tile and Stone, and worse yet, Nathan P. has left the job site after trashing our home AND he is keeping all of our down payment. > > DO NOT USE "New Spaces" for bathroom work, since they may send Nathan to your home and well.... we are dealing with a catastrophe now. **★★★★★ — Brian Rowell, Jan. 2018** > In the late summer of 2016, we decided that we were way overdue to remodel our kitchen and bathroom. We came up with a general plan and had three different contractors bid on our concept. During this process, a co-worker told me that New Spaces had recently remodeled their kitchen. They invited us over to view the remodeled kitchen and told us how great it was to work with the New Spaces team. Even though we were ready to pick one of the other contractors, we called New Spaces to have them come out for an interview with us. Jennifer McClellan visited with us that next week and it was immediately clear to us that New Spaces did things differently than the other contractors that we had interviewed. Based on this interview, we put our decision on hold so we could see what the New Spaces designers would come up with. > > Several weeks later we met with the New Spaces designers (Jayme and Kerrilynn) and they presented three different designs to us. The first was based on our original concept and was similar to what the other contractors presented to us. Then they presented the second design and it took both of our breaths away. It was a wide open concept which would remove all of the walls that separated our kitchen from the dining room and living room. This was something we hadn’t even considered. The third design was also based on the wide open concept. We worked with Jayme and Kerrilynn during that meeting to combine portions of the second and third design to come up with a preliminary design. We decided right then that we would hire them to complete the design and come up with the final cost estimate. > > A few weeks later the final design was complete and the estimate was in our ballpark, thus the decision to go with New Spaces was an easy one. Because this was a major remodel, we lived in our lower level for the three months that it took to complete this project. During the remodel, we would get a weekly email from Sara, the scheduler, that detailed the work was going to be performed during the week. When we did have a couple issues during the remodel, Sara always quickly addressed them and communicated the path forward. > > There is no way I could come up with enough compliments for Ross, our lead carpenter. He was awesome to work with and it was obvious to us that he took immense pride in his work. The completed project looks even better than the design that was shown to us when we met with the designers. Now when we have our immediate family of 15 over for dinners, we can all be on the main floor. We usually have our 6 grandsons eat at the beautiful kitchen island while the adults sit at the dining room table. The kitchen of my 1974 year built home was looking it’s age. The dark walnut colored veneer on its cabinets was peeling. It’s old, cheaply made, laminate countertops had numerous scratches and dents. It’s corner upper cabinet was becoming more crooked over the years, as it was trying to separate from its wall. Its owners were getting too old to be crawling on their hands and knees with a flashlight trying to find the turkey roasting pan in the long, bottom, dead-end corner cabinet. It was time for a makeover! > > My excitement turned to anguish as I was repeatedly turned down by other remodeling companies, saying I had an “inappropriate budget” for a kitchen remodel. Most of those companies wanted $50 grand plus. My budget was much lower. One company rep even laughed on the phone to my lower budget request without even seeing my kitchen. Feeling angry but determined, I sought help thru home improvement retail store personnel. Many months were spent researching cabinetry, flooring, countertops, and lighting to determine what my kitchen space needed, within my budget, to become more updated and functional for my family’s use. I searched kitchens on line and walked through several homes on the Parade of Homes tour looking for inspiration and ideas. However, I soon became very overwhelmed and felt sad realizing that I couldn’t be my kitchen’s contractor. > I recalled a kitchen remodel I liked on the Parade of Homes, done by New Spaces and gave them a call. Hope returned at my first meeting with New Spaces Homeowner Advisor, Jennifer M. She went above expectations, working with the budget, answering every phone call question, every email sent, (and there were a multitude), in a timely fashion with a reassuring, professional, manner. It was comforting to work with their designer who will shop with you for countertops, flooring, lighting, sinks, etc. and help you choose paint colors that work best for your space. Unlike most remodeling companies, New Spaces tells you the REAL cost of your project before the Contract is signed and demo started. > Every single one of New Spaces “partnered” specialists (i.e. carpenter, electrician, plumber, floor installer, countertop installer, drywall/taper, painter/stainer, etc) were fantastic and provided high quality work. We were very impressed with drywall repair/taping/texturizing work done by one of their partners, Jeff A. Special recognition also goes to new Spaces master-lead carpenter Ross G. whom I refer to as the “miracle man.” His Minnesota nice, easy going manner was a comforting presence. His experience, talent, thoroughness, and perfection in craftsmanship was outstanding.
