## Community Q&A

**Q: Decking material?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Love this all so much!  I am trying to find a decking material that will stand up to Montana winters and also not need a ton of maintenance.  Really want to avoid a composite deck material.  Would you mind sharing what you used here?

A: I'm sorry I don't have more info.  The material was purchased by the GC and stain was by the interiors designer.

A: Standard Kentucky Bluegrass.  We left the finished level of dirt 1.5" below top of pavers and then placed sod strips between.

**Q: The wall flowers** *(in Photo Questions)*

How is it done? Did you plant the flowers or they just grow wild? What it is the name of the flowers?

A: It's a little confusing, but this is a shot of a patio.  The plant is Wooly Thyme (Thymus pseudolanuginosus).  You can plant this as small plugs and then keep lightly watered.  In our experience it has worked best in sandy soils that have been amended with light organic material.  We usually don't see much growth the first year, but years two and three really take off.  Thanks for the question!

What type of grass is this, please?  I'm in Texas and lot different weather here than in MT, but love this look!

A: The grass is a standard Kentucky Bluegrass / Fescue mix.  The key to pulling off the look is to have the pavers set level with the sod crown.  Essentially, the dirt/sand setting material is 1 to 1.5 inches below the top of the paver.  Then when you set the sod, the rooted / dirt part of the sod is level with the paver.  The result is that only the soft blades stick up above the paver.  Thanks for the question!
