> When we purchased our house in mid-town Toronto, we hired Maureen Sanborn to design a new plan. We found her to be an outstanding and creative professional. Although a traditional Arts and Crafts style, the house required a complete renovation. We wanted something that maintained the beautiful historic character of the home (a stone exterior dating to the early 1900s), but with two young children, we wanted a warm, family friendly environment suited for a busy family life and open concept entertaining. While working within our budget, the design restored the beautiful original finishes of the house while opening it up to light, space and flow. The renovation also required complex structural issues and she managed that process extremely well. We have a beautiful and tasteful family home, and Maureen was instrumental in realizing that vision.

> When we moved into our 1970's style side split home the kitchen was still circa 1970's with the jenn air stove top and huge black and white tile throughout.  Maureen Sanborn, Architect and Interior Designer helped us come up with a new contemporary design that was in keeping with the style of the house.  The addition of a wall of shelves and glass cupboards is beautiful to showcase cookbooks, dinnerware and artwork.  As well the breakfast nook bench under the window overlooking the backyard is unique and is the signature piece of the kitchen.  Our family enjoys spending time in the kitchen and entertaining there.  Maureen was professional at all times, liaised with the contractors and kept the project on time.  As well, she listened and understood our styles and wishes and worked diligently at incorporating this into the plan.  Maureen accompanied us to pick out appliances and lighting that we love to this day!  The project stayed on budget and there were no major issues at all with construction.

A: I can't recall where these come from but School House Electric and Hudson Valley Lighting as well as Circa Lighting have similar fixtures.

I love the bold black walls. What's the paint color used to make this dramatic look?

A: Hard to tell from the pictures, but it was a strie faux finish.
