**Q: How to add a wow factor to this galley kitchen?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

...without taking down walls or extensively renovating? Home is traditional colonial

A: You've chosen to do a white on white on white kitchen - the only areas you have to add a pop of color would be a piece of art on the brick wall, a couple of runners that complement art work and then accessories.  You could use the red from the Wolf range handles as your starting point.

**Q: paint choices for kitchen** *(in Paint)*

Thoughts on which of these two paint colors would better suit the quartz and white shaker style cabinetry.  TIA

A: Not sure about either of those - can you identify the quartz as well as who makes the paint.  Are you painting the cabinets or the walls?

**Q: Need Help with Split Level Rooms (Clean Slate).** *(in Remodeling)*

We recently bought a house with an interesting layout!

We'd like to remodel the dated kitchen, rounded nook, and sunroom to turn it into one large kitchen and living area.  Right now, it's super cut off and all the finishes are dated so we're okay will a full gut job (new cabinets, appliances, flooring).

Here's the floor plan.



The Atrium, is actually a split level (it's lower than the kitchen.  We've been thinking about knocking down the wall between the nook, kitchen and atrium, but we're struggling with the split level.  We were also hoping to open up and straighten the walls of the nook and combine the nook and kitchen into one large space and use the atrium as an additional living space so we could work with two large rectangular spaces on different levels.  Any suggestions on floor plan, flooring choices / colors, would be greatly appreciated!

We'll likely just paint and replace the floors in the front living room "FR" and update the bar using the same flooring as the kitchen, nook, and sunroom.

A: You need to work with a local Contractor who can first identify load bearing walls - if you have a design/build facility in your area I'd go there as they have both designers who can visualize and contractor's who can identify load and can do the work.

**Q: Thermador 48" range Kitchen Timer Reset ?? Grr...** *(in Appliances)*

I have a Thermador PRD48JDSGU range. It is the darn dual fuel 48" steam oven/normal oven combo. (I still can't use the steam oven after reading info a million times.) ANYWAY, the kitchen timer read out buttons stopped working. I see "Kitchen Timer" but when I try to push "enter" it just beeps at me instead of allowing me to set a kitchen timer. It used to work but now is "locked" or something. Any easy fixes? I have searched to no avail....

A: I'd also suggest going to an appliance store that carries Thermador and get a tutorial from the sales person who best understands the product.  I can appreciate not being able to figure it out through a manual - Thermador is an expensive piece of equipment and giving a user an education should be part of the purchase.

**Q: Kitchen layout- newbie** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi, I'm new here... I have looked at Houzz photos for years now, but not a poster.  I'm at the very beginning stages of a first floor remodel- we are gutting the kitchen and moving it over some.  Will also create a pantry and mudroom area adjacent to the kitchen.  The initial layout is below and I'm not confident that the pantry is large enough or the fridge/oven are in the right spot.  Would appreciate any thoughts and recommendations from you experienced folks.  

Right now, we are hoping to put in a 48" fridge and double wall ovens.

A: You've got a nice layout but I'd suggest adding a prep sink onto the island - we spend most of our time between the sink and the cook top, either filling a pot or emptying a pot.  That would put you on the back corner counter top with your back to everyone - I'm thinking your will want to use the island as your prep space with the cook top behind you.  Adding a small (Franke CPX sink w/colindar) would greatly improve the use of the island and allow you to face out to family and friends and be apart of things.
The built in wall ovens and the 48" frig are close to usable counter space so you're good there.  The only other move I'd make would be the D/W - I'd place it to the left (and I'm right handed but I have mine to the left) - the reason I'd switch it is because the counter space to the left of the sink you aren't really going to use but the counter space to the right, again is in between the two major appliances - main sink and cook top.

**Q: Will it interrupt flow to bring corner upper cabinet down to counter?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I have an L shaped kitchen.  I don't have a lot of upper wall space because I added too many windows.  I was thinking of bringing a upper corner down to counter, but I am afraid it will beak the flow too much.  Any suggestions?
