### Reviews

**★★★★★ — Geoff Friderichs, June 2024**

> We couldn't have been more pleased with the entire Made To Last team after building our house in 2023. Their work is top quality and they will not compromise by cutting corners. Communication was very prompt back and forth. Their attention to detail gave us great confidence and the way they track progress and expenses over the build, especially with such large sums of money, helped us have peace of mind. We couldn't recommend them more highly. Thank you Andy R and Andy T and the entire team!

**Comment from Made To Last Custom Homes Ltd.:**

> Thank you for the encouragement Geoff, and the opportunity to help bring your dreams to life. Our whole team loved working with you both. We wish you many decades of enjoying your new home!

**★★★★★ — cen campbell, Nov. 2023**

> Andy at Made to Last has been by our side as we continue our hunt for the perfect property. He has spent hours with us on the phone and in person, working through different options for specific properties as we consider which one to purchase. He's given advice and suggestions that have proven to be essential in our decision making. We're still looking for the right property, but as questions arise about how we may renovate or build a new structure, Andy will be the one we contact.

**Comment from Made To Last Custom Homes Ltd.:**

> Thank you Cen! We appreciate your kind words and encouragement, and look forward to continuing to serve your family's needs!

**★★★★★ — HU-636269206, July 2022**

> We built with Made To Last starting in the fall of 2019. Everything about our experience was fantastic. Communication, budget and quality of work were super important to us. They delivered on all accounts. Andy, and our project manager were on top of everything. We would use Made To Last again in a heart beat!

**Comment from Made To Last Custom Homes Ltd.:**

**★★★★★ — Chris Kelsey, Oct. 2021**

> Our experience with Made to Last in totally renovating our gulf island home has been exceptional.
>
> From our very first discussions about renovating, to finalizing the last finishes, the Made to Last team exceeded all of our expectations.
>
> Our project manager was exceptional, as was everyone on the MTL team.
>
> Building on a gulf island poses unique challenges, but the entire team tackled each hurdle with enthusiasm, skill, and efficiency.
>
> It was simply a really fun experience, which had not been our expectation going into the renovation. The team worked collaboratively with us, and the communication was fantastic. They are honest and fair.
>
> MTL engages super tradespeople, each of whom, along with MTL, contributed ideas and recommendations.
>
> We were provided with regular budgeting updates, and we felt MTL was always on top of and conscientious about the cost side of the equation.
>
> We were in very capable hands.

**★★★★★ — Helen Faustino Interior Design, Feb. 2021**

> I've had the pleasure of working with the team at Made to Last Custom Homes on a couple of recent projects, one residential and one commercial.
>
> As an Interior Designer, I have worked with a variety of contractors in various capacities. From the beginning what impressed me with Made to Last was their thorough communication procedures and their meticulous attention to executing the myriad details to exceed their client's expectations. At any given time during the course of the design process and renovation, I knew with who I needed to speak, to get the answers I needed. Made to Last were also clear in their communication and planning to provide me timelines so together we could seamlessly keep the project moving forward.
>
> This didn't change with the arrival of the pandemic. It is often when put under tremendous pressure that you realize the true intentions, nature and character of a company and its team. I found myself truly "one of the team" as we were all learning a new normal, navigating supply issues and sudden price increases in the midst of the project. We pooled our resources and Made to Last put the interests of the client first to seek out the best outcomes while adapting to all the restrictions and health orders.
>
> In closing, I would sum up this incredible team with a few keywords: professional, sincere, hardworking and honest. I highly recommend Made to Last Custom Homes for your next project!
>

**★★★★★ — Robin Nierychlo, Jan. 2021**

> Made To Last built our guesthouse/farm storage building on our property and we couldn’t be more pleased with our experience.
> The location where we chose to build had its challenges with permitting etc, due to its proximity to a riparian area, but the team at MTL helped us get through it all and made our dreams come true! We loved working with MTL. Their staff and sub trades were very professional and did exceptional work. Everyone who comes through our guesthouse is amazed at the quality of workmanship.
> This was our first time hiring a builder and the whole process can be a bit daunting at first, but we felt supported throughout the whole venture. We would build again in a heartbeat with Made To Last!

**Comment from Made To Last Custom Homes Ltd.:**

> Thank you for taking the time to leave a review! We wish you the best as you enjoy your quality built guesthouse for years to come.

**★★★★★ — Alfresco Living Design, Oct. 2020**

> I have had the pleasure to work with Made To Last Custom Homes on residential projects. The first opportunity was a renovation. Andy Renton was the project manager and brought the necessary skills required for the complexity of the renovation. The Made To Last team worked collaboratively with other professionals to deliver the best possible product and solution for the client. The second project is a 2020 custom build home currently in progress. Andy was instrumental coordinating the design consultative process. I welcome the opportunity to work with Andy on future projects and highly endorse Made To Last Custom Homes.

> Jack, thanks for sharing about your experience with Made to Last. The rebuild of your Mill Bay home turned out great. It was a pleasure to work for you.

**★★★★★ — Clinton Alexander, June 2019**

> Made to Last exceeded my expectations in building our home. I was able to trust the quality of their work and management, despite building from afar. I definitely recommend Made to Last and hope to use them in the future!

**Comment from Made To Last Custom Homes Ltd.:**

> Thank you for leaving a review Clinton. It was a pleasure to build your home.

**★★★★★ — Stephan Burckhardt, Nov. 2018**

> These guys delivered on time and pretty much on budget. Where we went over, it was driven by our own decision to upgrade. In a heated building environment to stay on course with a complex build and have 90% of your sub-contractors deliver excellent work and outstanding customer service is quite an achievement. The remaining 10% were either a little sloppy in execution or lax on working with the client, but all was expediently fixed and good in the end. M2L are great to work with and they give you realistic budgets (not bait-and-switch) and timelines they can keep. You'd be hard pressed to find a better builder in the Cowichan Valley (Vancouver Island).

**Comment from Made To Last Custom Homes Ltd.:**

> Stephan,
> Thanks for sharing about your building experience and for the great review! Your home has turned out beautiful. We hope you enjoy it for many years to come.

**★★★★★ — Paper Birch Design Studio, Oct. 2018**

> As an interior designer, I have been party to several new builds for clients, but to be honest, have never had the courage to build a home of my own. I had heard horror stories about the stress involved in a new build, not to mention witnessing it as a designer. The market being what it was, however, a new build was the only option we had.
>
> My husband and I are all about doing our “due diligence.” We didn’t pick the first builder to whom we spoke. We interviewed several after seeking referrals from locals, and we called references. In the end, we chose Made to Last Custom Homes. I could say it was because of their glowing references, but I’m a realist—no one puts a bad reference on their resume. Rather we chose Made to Last because we followed our (my) gut instinct. I just had a feeling about them. I believed they wouldn’t let me down—and that was/is really important in a world where we find ourselves often disappointed.
>
> I’m not going to say that the build was without challenges. The key is how those challenges were managed. We could always count on Steven Fitzpatrick to discuss any issues that arose, and he always made it right, even when it affected his bottom line. Steven and Matt Buckle (our project manager) were never ones to point the finger at anyone else, but rather took accountability—another rare trait these days.
>
> One of the most challenging aspects of any new build relates to financing and restrictive draw schedules from banks. In order to manage any potential conflict, I provided Steven with our draw schedule at the outset, and always kept the lines of communication open. If there was going to be delay in payment, I called Steven and explained it. He was always understanding and reasonable, and I appreciated the fact that we were able to discuss matters with civility and mutual respect.
>
> The list of how Steven Fitzpatrick, Matt Buckle and the Made to Last team went above and beyond is long. Suffice it to say, my gut was right—we weren’t disappointed. The Made to Last team delivered our forever home, and we are absolutely in love with it. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Made to Last Custom Homes to anyone, and in fact, am very much looking forward to working with them on future projects with my clients.
>
> Thank you Steven, Matt, and everyone else at Made to Last for giving us our dream home!

**Comment from Made To Last Custom Homes Ltd.:**

> Thank you so much for your kind review Andrea. It was an absolute pleasure to work with, and for you during your home build. You have an amazing eye for detail, and made the process smooth for us as you made your decisions in a timely manner. Your home turned out beautifully and it was an honour to collaborate together to create your dream home! We hope to work with you again in the future and hope you enjoy your Made to Last Custom Home for years to come.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Pendant Lights?** *(in Photo Questions)*

What is the make and model of the island pendant lights? Thank you :)

A: Hi, I don't have the make and model information any more as this project was complete 6 years ago. However, I know that these lights can be found at McLaren Lighting. Regards!

**Q: What are the make and model of the pendant lights over the island? Thx** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Hi, the lights were purchased from McLaren Lighting in Victoria B.C. I don't believe they are available anymore, however, McLaren has a great selection and you will be able to find something similar there. http://mclarenlighting.com

**Q: flooring question** *(in Photo Questions)*

I love this floor! Can you tell me what type of wood was used? Also any info on stain colors would be appreciated.
Thank you

A: Hi K Infanti! Thank you for your comment. This is Fir hardwood flooring with a clear stain and a UV protectant final coating as there are large windows everywhere in this home!

**Q: Total House Remodel (before and after)** *(in Before & After)*

I have posted a few of these photos on other threads, but here is the complete collection. My parents built this house in 1979. Both my parents passed away within the last couple of years, however prior to my Mom's passing she had a vision of what she wanted for this house. After she transitioned from this world to the next I took it upon myself to make her dreams a reality and this is the result. Most of the bathroom fixtures and lighting fixtures were purchased using Houzz. The knobs and pulls are all from houzz. There are more photos, however for some reason I am not able to post more than this. Every inch of this house was touched and updated. The entire project turned out so well.
Before: exterior
After: exterior
Before: Wall dividing living room (right) and kitchen/dining (left).
After: Open concept/Great Room Concept
Before: guest bathroom
After: Guest Bathroom
Before: Master bathroom/wardrobe area
After: Master bathroom.

A: WOW! You did an amazing job with all areas of the renovation. Good work! It looks like a brand new home!

**Q: Hallway Decorating for $400** *(in Before & After)*

Wanted to share photos of my hallway. Everything was bought either on clearance or was thrifted. The lamps were purchased for $5 each at Goodwill and I made them over to look like oil-rubbed bronze. The stool was also bought for $5 and I recovered it. Thoughts?

A: Looks Great! Simple, yet fills the space perfectly!
