### Reviews

**★★★★★ — Suzie Kerns, Oct. 2022**

> CarsonSpeer started building our home in early 2020, and we moved in March 2021. Despite the challenges of trying to accomplish something involving many “moving parts” during the height of the Covid pandemic, our experience using CarsonSpeer Builders made it rewarding and fun.
>
> Steve Carson was our primary contact. He was incredibly knowledgeable, competent, and always pleasant and approachable. No question was too small or concern too trivial for a prompt reply. The subcontractors/work crews used by CarsonSpeer were of the highest quality. CarsonSpeer worked well with our architect (Matt Tindall of Tindall Architecture Workshop) and our interior design firm (ID Studio Interiors). This is our third custom home and the process of building with CarsonSpeer was by far the most organized, reliable and enjoyable. The quality of the work we’re privileged to live with every day is impeccable.
>
> Without fail, every subcontractor told us a variation of “You picked the beat builder in the area”. We agree!

**★★★★★ — Millie Bellerjeau, Feb. 2022**

> If you are looking for a high-quality, down-to-earth, custom builder, then look no further. We have had an excellent experience with CarsonSpeer, from start to finish. When interviewing builders, we felt instantly comfortable upon meeting Steve Carson and James Speer. Having a good fit turned out to be critical, because we then managed the entire project remotely during COVID.
>
> James Speer is a true professional and showed excellent foresight during our project. He ordered several supplies well in advance of the normal timelines, anticipating and responding to drastically lengthened supply times and shortages. He was creative in helping find solutions when an item was unavailable. As a result, despite all the market challenges, we were able to move in almost to the week of our originally planned date.
>
> The quality of work has been superb, as has the team's responsiveness including after we moved in. James and his colleagues, particularly Matt Darling and Erin McArthur, have been great to work with. We are delighted with the process and end result and recommend CarsonSpeer most highly.

**★★★★★ — Stoneywall, Nov. 2021**

> We waited six months to get on their construction schedule. We are so grateful they took our renovation project. Wonderful experience all the way around.

**★★★★★ — Rachel Workman, Dec. 2019**

> I cannot say enough about the working with Steve Carson and CarsonSpeer on our renovation. We purchased a home built in the early 1920's, worked with Tindall Architecture Workshop on renovation plans and Carson Speer completed the project. Steve Carson was the best project manager. He was always professional, responsive and completed things on time (or before schedule). He went above and beyond to make our project as smooth and quick as possible. It was truly a pleasure working with Steve (and James) and I can't wait for another project!

**★★★★★ — LeAnne & Sam White, Sept. 2019**

> We cannot say enough great things about Steve Carson and CarsonSpeer Builders.
>
> They built a large screened porch on our previous home, so we had worked with them before but on a much smaller scale. When we first reached out we were in a major time crunch and wanted to do renovations on a house we were buying, but hadn’t closed on yet. We had limited time to show them the house and get measurements etc. It was not an ideal situation. We mostly worked with Steve and he made everything so easy. He was always on time and worked around our schedule as well as that of the current homeowners. He listened to our ideas and made suggestions. He was responsive and straight forward and provided excellent communication. Once the project started, we received weekly emails from the company with detailed updates and Steve was physically here on site during the renovation almost daily. (All of the subs were wonderful, too.)
>
> CarsonSpeer handled every detail, including the last minute add-ons and additional requests we had and still finished within our time crunch, while working seamlessly with the city so that it all came together perfectly. They are patient, honest and easy to work with.
>
> CarsonSpeer Builders exceeded our expectations and we LOVE our new home!

**★★★★★ — Carrie Schaller, July 2019**

> Very professional, experienced and easy to communicate with. We could not be happier with our renovation. Highly recommend CarsonSpeer Builders!

**★★★★★ — C G, Feb. 2019**

> I enjoyed the opportunity to work with James Speer and his crew on my renovation. The transformation is truly beautiful. I am happy to have found such an amazing, creative, and diligent team to work on my home.

**★★★★★ — Kasel, Feb. 2019**

> CarsonSpeer is outstanding in every way. Their efficiency, cleanliness, attention to detail, craftsmanship and responsiveness was beyond expectation. They have set a new bar for excellence for contractors in our area. I would not hesitate to hire them again.

**★★★★★ — Tindall Architecture Workshop, Sept. 2018**

> Working with CarsonSpeer is truly a pleasure. James & Steve care for their clients and are great team players in the design & build process. They demonstrate great respect for clients, architects and any other team members. We are proud to see our design work became a successful reality with these guys.

**Comment from CarsonSpeer Builders:**

> Thanks Matt. It's always a pleasure working with TAW on projects!

**★★★★★ — ID Studio Interiors, March 2018**

> The attention to detail and care that the Carson Speer team puts into their projects is above and beyond. We had great communication between the architect, homeowner, and myself, the interior designer, which made the job run very smooth. We would happily recommend them to any of our clients and look forward to more projects in the future

**★★★★★ — Matthew Vana, March 2018**

> Building a house and choosing a builder has to be one of the most important and yet nerve racking decision you have to make apart from who to marry. You see when you are building a house you are making a commitment to spend and talk with the builder daily, work with them for 9-12 months and then live with what they left for you for the next 10-20 years, maybe longer.
>
> My wife and I had heard about CarsonSpeer (Steve Carson and James Speer) from several people but also because James's wife was in Blair's bible study. We valued honesty, trustworthiness and excellent craftsmanship as the top criteria instead of "the cheapest" builder. No one wants to spend the most (and you definitely won't with CarsonSpeer - CS) but you get what you pay for. That includes an incredible product made with the attention to detail at each and every step. And there are a lot of steps!
>
> CarsonSpeer is not just about building houses but long lasting relationships and I know it sounds cliche' (and it is) but we started with them as contracted partners and finished with James and his family spending time out on our farm, Steve chasing and catching our rabbits that had gotten out while we were on vacation. And now, having been in our house for almost 3 months, James is still taking care of punch list items that have presented themselves. Quick items were done immediately, but now he continues to make you know you made the right choice when choosing Carson Speer.
>
> Take your time, do your research, come see our house and others they have built. You WILL get the house of your dreams. I honestly don't know how they do it but they treat you like family because you are to them. Family that they want to build a really nice house for! I love family like that!

**★★★★★ — Lisa Davis, Feb. 2018**

> I highly recommend Carson Speer. We just finished up a substantial home renovation and couldn't be happier. Their customer service and attention to detail surpassed our expectations. Steve Carson managed our project from start to finish and was great to work with.

## Community Q&A

**Q: what are the exterior colors of this home?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: The siding is Sherwin Williams Dorian Gray (7017) and the trim is Sherwin Williams Dovetail (7018). The foundation is Sherwin Williams Sealskin (7675)

**Q: What is the white wall color?** *(in Photo Questions)*

What is the brand and name of white wall color?

A: It was a Sherwin Williams Duration flat, but we can't find a record of the exact color. My apologies.

**Q: Exterior paint color** *(in Photo Questions)*

Do you have the name of the exterior trim paint?

A: The trim paint color was a custom match to the Quaker dark bronze powder coat on the windows.

**Q: how much would that ceiling** *(in Photo Questions)*

How much would that ceiling cost to do .??

A: Deb, the majority of the ceiling was reclaimed from the former structure and then planed and refinished before reinstalling. We did have to supplement with some new cut, vertical grain fir to finish out some areas. It was a fairly expensive and labor intensive process. You could use all new-cut fir or cypress to get a similar effect at a lower cost. I would talk to a local contractor to find out what his costs would be.

**Q: what are the name of the flooring?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Flooring type

A: It is \#2 grade wide plank white oak with a natural stain.

**Q: Articulated lights** *(in Photo Questions)*

Love the design- thank you for sharing. Can you tell me where the articulated lights came from?

A: Here you go:
