A quality home starts with the framing staying mindful of creating a sealed building envelope, exceptional fit and finish is only obtained with an attention to detail throughout the building process. All exterior wood needs to be sealed on all six sides which are, two faces, two edges and two butt ends, to prevent water infiltration. I have installed several types of siding mostly cedar shingles and clapboard over a rain-screen of cedar breather or lathe to create a pressure break preventing wind driven rain from entering the building and allowing the siding two dry from both sides. An efficient heating system is only as good as the air tightness and insulation of the building. Differing heating and cooling sources such as radiant , forced air, or passive in conjunction with a variety of insulation, foam, dense-pack cellulose or fiberglass all need to be considered.
