From the outset, the company has worked closely with its customers to deliver projects that surpass their expectations and add beauty and functionality to their homes and landscapes. Whether building new shelving in a kitchen or bedroom, a deck to enjoy a leisurely summer afternoon, or decorative latticework in a Beacon Hill garden, the company has delivered outstanding work for its customers for more than a decade. Chris Skocay Fine Carpentry has also been commissioned for many custom projects including a classic arched Japanese bridge for Alabama’s Birmingham Botanical Gardens, award plaques that were presented at Fenway Park to Red Sox great David Ortiz, and interior and exterior restoration work on the Henry David Thoreau birthplace in Concord, Massachusetts. THE FOUNDER Chris Skocay has been inspired by carpentry and woodworking all his life. Chris began his career apprenticing with local builders on projects large and small – building new custom homes from the ground up, remodeling houses, building additions, and completing kitchen and bathroom renovations. His formal training was in the year-long Carpentry program at the North Bennet Street School (NBSS) in Boston’s historic North End, where students truly learn an education in craftsmanship at one of the finest schools of its kind in the country. At NBSS, he was trained in all aspects of the carpentry trade, from drafting and design, to building, framing, finish work, and detailed cabinetry. He is a high quality fine art carpenter, a clear and timely communicator and a craftsman with the highest standards. During the past year he covered all the beams in our modern house with cherry, built us a custom living room floor to ceiling cherry cabinet and shelving unit with a granite top and renovated a craftsman style bathroom complete with custom medicine cabinet, vanity and closet. > Chris's design ideas created a lot of space and elegance in our small bathroom. He understood what we wanted and made all of our ideas come to life in a way that was better than we could have imagined. > He fluidly contracted other professionals to complete the jobs. Chris is a great listener, a prompt responder to emails, calls and texts and completed all his work on time to the highest quality. He cleaned up every day and never left a trace of mess. HIs beautiful work has significantly improved the value and quality of our home and daily lives. ## Selected projects - [Exterior Carpentry](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/exterior-carpentry-pj-vj~2629173) - Location: Boston, MA - Photos: 13 - Description: From minor renovations or a major changes, updating and redefining the exterior of your home offers a chance to project a new image to the world passing by. - [Decks & Fences](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/decks-and-fences-pj-vj~2629182) - Location: Cambridge, MA - Photos: 26 - Description: Decks and porches define our outdoor space, whether leading us to a pool or inviting us to sit a while in the summer breeze. - [Cabinets & Interior Carpentry](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/cabinets-and-interior-carpentry-pj-vj~2629162) - Location: Carlisle, MA - Photos: 38 - Description: From build-ins to custom cabinets, all products are built in-house in Chris's shop in Carlisle, MA. - [Custom Projects](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/custom-projects-pj-vj~2191317) - Location: Newton, MA - Photos: 13 - Description: From Japanese shoji screens to bridges in botanical gardens to custom projects at Fenway Park, Chris has built dozens of creative pieces for customers large and small. - [Historic Restorations](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/historic-restorations-pj-vj~2629132) - Location: Concord, MA - Photos: 12 - Description: With an eye for detail and an appreciation of the past, Chris has restored many historic buildings -- including treasures like the home where Henry David Thoreau was born. - [Kitchens & Baths](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/kitchens-and-baths-pj-vj~2191327) - Location: Westford, MA - Photos: 8 - Description: Creative kitchens and inventive bathroom designs are hallmarks of Chris's work.
