> Irina did a wonderful job on design and installation of my motorized Hunter Douglas Shades. But what really impressed me was her service 10 years AFTER I have had them. I assumed the problems with the shades were from normal wear and tear. After all, who honors a warranty after 10 years? But I called Irina for guidance and she enthusiastically investigated the problems, ordered a replacement shade, and other new equipment, and had it all installed- promptly- at no cost! wow! These days that is a testament to a true professional who takes pride in her work. Irina is awesome!

> Irina was amazing! She was very patient in helping to find just the right fabric and look for my draperies. She spent a lot of time to make sure the hardware, pleats, folds, and look would all be perfect, and they are. She pays attention to every detail to be sure things are right. I cannot say enough good things about my experience with her, and would give her my highest recommendation. I'll definitely be consulting her again when it's time to do more windows.

**Comment from Goosby Design:**

> Thank you so much for your kinds words, Aimee! I am so happy you love your window treatments. It was such a pleasure working with you and selecting such beautiful and unique fabrics for your home. I look forward to working with you soon.

> Goosby Design helped me with every aspect of my 20+ window coverings after we remodeled our rental property. Irina gave me advice on material, size and design. I appreciated her efforts to be cost-conscious and to give me the most bang for my buck. She was timely, efficient and oversaw everything from measuring the windows to final installation. She has a great sense of style based on the project and owner's taste.

> Irina and her installer were ultimate professionals. Irina was patient and knowledgeable in recommending window treatments for my home. She came to my home with an exhaustive amount of samples and I did not feel pressured or rushed into a decision. She quickly provided me with an estimate and the install was seemless. There was damage to one of the shades and she quickly reordered another and replaced it, I would highly recommend her services and have done so already on my neighborhood community site.

> Irina was great to work with, she took her time and really listened to me! I have worked with Irina on two properties now and will continue to use her on my next project! The custom drapes turned out beautiful and all the shades fit like a glove!

> She helped me correct two different window drape treatments that were poorly made and hemmed incorrectly. She has excellent people who came and removed them and redid them and rehung the drapes.
> Excellent communication, attention to detail and outstanding turnaround and service. I sent her to a dear friend who is very particular and she's very happy with her custom blinds as well.
> Highly recommend.

> When the Hunter Douglas person I worked with for years retired, I contacted Irina Goosby for a consultation. She was professional, present, attentive, and with her help, I upgraded my window treatments. She understood our personal needs and suggested ways to make our home both more contemporary and better insulated. She also helped us automate with the latest technology thus saving us time and energy - a big plus for us.

> I highly recommend Irina Goosby and am so glad I found her. She is a gem.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Need back splash help please!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hubby and I took a big plunge and bought a fixer upper vacation house on the coast of North Carolina on the steps of the court house no less! We've knocked out walls, added doors, scraped a the ceilings, added all new floors and painted the whole house. We've demolished the old kitchen, and totally moved it to the other side of the house.... AND, I'm stuck on back splash!
Went with custom built shaker cabinets and I'm going with stainless hardware.... the appliances are yet to be installed but you can see from the pics where they are headed. I'm considering classic white subway tiles with white grout, grey subway tiles with grey grout (but the ones I found are too dark), the glass mosaic ones in the pictures and the while ones in the picture... they have little waves. My walls are Sherwin Williams Agreeable Grey and the counter is called Sequoia and i think its a quarts even though the dealer called it granite. Please let me know what you think. :) Thanks!

A: Plain white subway is best. Mosaic is nice too. Not the wave pattern. You will hate it in a year or two.

**Q: Need kitchen backsplash ideas.** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We recently installed all natural maple shaker cabinets in our kitchen which has an oak floor (to be refinished). We aren't sure what we want to do with the black-splash so we're asking for some input here. Originally we painted the back-splash area black to match the black galaxy granite countertop (black with bronze metallic flecks). We figured making a paint change was a lot cheaper than making a back-splash mistake. We received a few negative comments including one from our granite installer about it being too dark. So when I just painted all of the kitchen walls a light color I painted the back-splash area too. The pictures I'm posting are of the painted back-splashes so you can see the difference.

Looking at the pictures, we think we still prefer the darker back-splash since it gives more of a contrast. One thing we know is that we really don't want a "busy" back-splash. We want something simple and clean looking.

We found a bronze toned mirror mosaic tile that we think we like. The only question about this is that it looks quite different in different light. Other things we've seen that we like: black bead-board, black back-painted glass, antique mirror panels, antique glass, horizontal black boards, and one black matte finish that we can't figure out what it is. I was only able to post 4 pictures here so I'll add pictures of things we've seen that we think we like as comments. We are definitely open to other suggestions and would appreciate knowing what you think.

A: What about black basalt? It's a natural stone and the colors vary between dark grey to black. It gives it more dimension rather than the flat black paint. It also comes in many sizes, from subway to the mosaic. Or a metallic glazed porcelain tile, which has a bronze tones to pull from the black granite.

**Q: Window treatment dilemma** *(in Design Dilemma)*

You can see how close the large sliding glass doors are to the coffee table (behind the table is my sofa). Window treatments have me baffled. Tried curtains and looked heavy. Help pls!

A: buster57, the top down bottom up shades do not attached to the floor. The are only mounted at the headrail. Go on the Hunter Douglas site and then search for a dealer in your area. There is bound to be someone who does window treatments somewhere near you.

**Q: Window treatment for large bathroom window** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I have a window in my master bathroom that is very cold but could potentially let a lot of natural light in if I could keep the blinds open a bit. Currently there are metal blinds on them. I would like to get some kind of bottom up blinds instead. I'm overwhelmed with variety of products available. Any suggestions? I want to let the light in but keep full privacy on the bottom half of the window where the blinds would be covering. I live in a condo neighborhood and this window is on a third story overlooking the main drive way through the neighborhood and I have a neighbor who is almost directly across from my bathroom window.

A: Duette Architella honeycomb shades Top down bottom up will give you the privacy and insulation you are looking for. Also the Vignettes roman shades are a nice choice. You will need to choose the semi opaque options (not sheer or room darkening) to give you full privacy, but still allow light to filter through. One important thing to consider is the the lift system. Since it's over a tub, you will not want cords hanging. You can choose cordless or remote controlled options. There are even retractable cords called Ultraglide that stay the same length always.
