I love the kitchen below with the creamy white cabinets and stained island. I am also inspired by the stained range hood in the second pic. My dilemma is my trim color. While I love white kitchens, they are often a touch sterile to me. So, I like a light creaminess to white cabinets to warm the room. My floors will be walnut stained and hand-scraped. However, I have the choice of white trim or off white trim throughout the house. In pics that I have seen, I don't like white trim with off white kitchen cabinets! Will I date the house if I choose an off-white trim, like the color of the cabinets? Also, the latest trends say white and off-white kitchens are hot, but I see far more white kitchens on Houzz.com than off-white/creamy white. Your thoughts? A: You will not date a house using off white paint for trim. It would look best with the kitchen, especially if open concept. **Q: Need opinion on counter top and cabinet look. 2nd guessing our choices** *(in Design Dilemma)* it seems like most pictures on Houzz have medium wood cabinetscoupled a lighter counter. We are committed to maple coffee glaze recessed cabinets and are considering Cambria Canterbury quartz counters. i love both but want to make sure they go together and won't be too dark. Darker subway tiles or lighter bigger tiles. I think both look good in space but not sure which to choose. My space is very sunny so light is not and issue. It's colonial cream granite. A: yes, that is what she and I are both suggesting. **Q: Ideas for our future living room** *(in Design Dilemma)* We are one month away from getting into our future home and looking for ideas for living room. This will be old fashioned to some but we live in a rural area and embrace my husband's farming background. The pictures attached are previous owner furniture...not ours. The living room is 17'x27'. As our present home was only 13'x17'....I'm excited at the extra footage but questioning how to work it. The built in bookcases will be changed into display cabinets with glass shelving and doors...local builder to do the work. Husband has extensive collection of 1/16 scale toy farm equipment that will be displayed in the cabinets. Where past owners piano sets....considering placement of a 50" tv. The fireplace is wood burning and 14' in length. Not finding much help on furniture placement to view both well. The pic of dining area we were considering as extra sitting area. We have an old black Packard piano would love to get worked in somewhere. Thank you for any suggestions. A: The rug looks nice. I have two sofas in an L shape facing the TV. Watching the TV from the side is not a problem for our family. **Q: Kitchen Backsplash Down to the final 2** *(in Design Dilemma)* Smoke or Mist Which looks best? A: Travertine as Carol mentioned is a good choirce. Something light tan, a natural color like sea oats or light khaki pants. **Q: Vintage Maroon/Gray Tile Bathroom Decisions** *(in Design Dilemma)* There's something not right about the design in this bathroom, but I can't figure out how to fix it. I really like the maroon and blue/gray tiles, but I'm at a loss for how to accessorize. Plain white? We've only replaced the toilet so far, out of necessity and white wooden blinds. Floor is terrazzo. Any suggestions? A: Lucidos has some good suggestions. A bold black and white graphic wallpaper is a good idea, but if wallpaper is not for you, keep it simple by painting the walls a shade or two lighter than the tile. Paint the ceiling the same color. It will keep the space feeling open. If you move/enlarge the vanity, you may create an issue with unfinished tiled area behind the current vanity? Also the towel bar presents a problem.
