### Reviews

**★★★★★ — HU-828089948, April 2019**

> We recently contracted with Loren Wood Builders to demolish and rebuild our back deck. The (not very old) deck had rotted beyond repair and we wanted a bigger, more functional unit. We decided on a two-story screened in porch but did not want to do the design work ourselves. We’ve hired out quite a few home projects and maintenance issues over the years - with varying - mostly unsatisfying - results. I was tired of unreliable contractors/sub contractors and subpar work. So, I did some significant research and decided that Loren Wood Builders would be a perfect fit. I can unequivocally state that - from start to finish and top to bottom - this experience was excellent. Ernesto Castaneda did the design, Seth McCanse spearheaded the team, and we had Loren’s crew and other subcontractors filling out the project. Everyone was professional, on time, and delivered as expected. We were so pleased with the communication and professionalism throughout the entire process. My family is thrilled with the end product. We can’t wait for summer!

> I want to praise the employees who worked with me and my budget. As a single mom having a crew come in to my home and finish a room, I felt surprisingly at ease. They always answered my silly questions, helped me make option choices, and mostly updated me often with what was happening. The work was great quality and I love my new room!

**Comment from Loren Wood Builders:**

> Jill, Thank you so much for the kind words. We appreciated the work and enjoyed getting to your family. Thanks a ton!

**★★★★★ — Austin Goodman, March 2019**

> House projects can be challenging, but it's WAY better with a great team on your side. Loren and his team of professionals are just that. I highly recommend Loren Wood Builders for both professionalism, fair pricing, and just all-around great folks to work with.

> I cannot say enough positive things about my experience with the Loren Wood Builders Team. They are professional and knowledgeable, they communicate well, they respect your space and time, and they care. Their attention to detail was remarkable and they listened very closely to what I was looking to achieve. The end result was even better than I expected. The partners they have chosen to work with are equally outstanding. My kitchen remodel was a pleasant experience thanks the the Loren Wood Team.

> I had been hesitating on starting this project because I had heard so many disappointing stories about contractors setting unrealistic timelines, running over budget, and mismanaging subcontractors making the whole process painful and annoying. But then I found Loren's team: EVERY SINGLE PERSON, including the subs, that worked on my project was amazing. The timelines were clear and followed precisely; people showed up when they said they would; they were tidy-- and most importantly their work is impeccable. The attention they paid to the details was really impressive.

> Loren has developed a well-deserved reputation in Bloomington and I would not hesitate for a second to recommend his team for your project.

> I have worked with Loren Wood on multiple projects and they have always been very professional and detailed on there projects.

**★★★★★ — Grace Newlin, Jan. 2019**

> Loren and Joel were a tremendous help in getting our remodel across the finish line. What started as an attempt to fix some burst plumbing turned into a remodel of a third of our home. While we made a good deal of progress demo-ing everything ourselves, we completely stalled when it came to the rest. A big thanks to the LWB crew and contractors who together managed to put our home back together! Loren and Joel gave us good guidance along the way and everyone else was friendly, efficient, and showed true professionalism. So, Loren, when are we going to talk about the other 2/3's of our home? ;)

**★★★★★ — Lynn Schoch, Jan. 2019**

> We recently had Loren Wood replace a deck over walk-out basement with a sunroom, bathroom and basement extension. I suspect it was a modest project for the firm. We are very, very happy with the result. We believe that working with the Loren Wood folks was the right decision and will go back to them for any renovation project we might undertake in the future. Without hesitation, I would recommend that anyone considering construction or renovation projects in the Bloomington area should include Loren Wood in the discussion. Reasons we are so happy with our choice of them to do our project include:
>
> 1.Because of the detailed upfront planning, we didn’t have to change much along the way.
> 2.That said, when we did change our minds, workers were cordial and accommodating. For example, when they initially framed a doorway, we realized it would cause problems with furniture later. They shifted the frame a couple of feet quickly and without complaint.
> 3.They do not cut corners and use quality materials throughout even in things, like the quality of the lumber, that customers might not notice.
> 4.They were extremely fussy about the finish work and spent a consider time making sure painting and caulking and similar small details were exactly right. They found things to correct that I would not have noticed for months.
> 5.The most important thing is peace of mind. Communication was easy and quick. They asked regularly if we were concerned about anything they were doing and were responsive to all our questions and requests. We were confident that they would deliver a result that was exactly what we wanted and would be of the highest quality.

> We LOVE our new addition and Loren Wood Builders. They did an amazing job. Every person who worked on our home was genuinely kind and caring. Living through an addition is a disruption to your life and they made it as easy as possible. The quality of the work is fantastic and we couldn't be happier. They are great at communicating and I highly recommend them if you are looking to add on to your home or build from scratch.

**★★★★★ — Marci Becker, July 2018**

> Loren and his team are awesome. I had a small project that I needed done in a tight time frame and they made it happen. Courteous and polite....left the job site clean with everything done they had agreed to. They also give back to our awesome community in so many ways! Every time I turn around, I'm hearing their names associated with awesome projects! Lotus, Habitat for Humanity, Area 10 Agency on Aging, Bloomington Co-housing Development. Love!!

**★★★★★ — Jeffrey Sampson, July 2018**

> Loren Wood Builders did a fantastic job on repairing a water damaged wall due to a leaking roof. The repair required removing all the damaged wall material and installing new studs, insulation, drywall, finishing and priming the wall and repairing the adjacent areas of the wood floor and ceiling. While this was a relatively small project, they managed it well and paid meticulous attention to all details of the work.

**★★★★★ — Molly Otto, June 2018**

> Loren and his team are 100% the best contractor team I have ever worked with. Their professionalism, knowledge, passion and dedication are unrivaled. I would hire them for any project in the future.

  - Description: The design goal of this contemporary home (Herndon Design) was to create panoramic views of the outdoors from any vantage point inside the house. Floor-to-ceiling windows along with floor-to-ceiling glass paneling in many interior walls creates drama and open views. The glass railing for the central stair and balcony provided an opportunity for creative use of lighting (back-lit feature illuminates the railing at night). Kitchen windows die directly into the countertops, completing the feeling o…

  - Description: The timber-framed bones of this barn apartment were re-purposed from a 100-year old industrial building. Reclaimed cypress flooring from pickle vatts lends character and warmth to the 500-square foot guest quarters. The galley style kitchen saves space (we used reclaimed Douglas fir for the cabinet frames), along with built-in daybeds that double as seating. A climbing wall was tucked into a recessed corner, and a loft above the kitchen allows for additional sleeping space.

  - Description: This unique remodel in Unionville proved to be one of our largest and most complicated. We worked with Springpoint Architects on this extensive project to redesign the interior and exterior, adding an elevator to allow access to all four floors of this gorgeous home. A large majority of the roof was torn off of the third floor to create a stunning master suite. On one side, what used to be a screened-in porch was transformed into a master bathroom with phenomenal views, a heated tile floor, curb…

None of the bathrooms were functioning, and the kitchen – all original – needed work. But this renovation went way beyond a fix-up. - Description: This beautiful home in Hyde Park had all the original finishes and layout and was ready for an overhaul. The homeowners worked with Springpoint Architects to create a design that opened up the floor plan, streamlined the layout, and revitalized the home with new kitchen and baths. New hardwood floors through the main level and master-suite, along with new interior doors throughout provided the the finishing touches. We are really proud of our work on this!

## Community Q&A

**Q: Hi, which species of wood and stain was used for the post and soffit?** *(in Photo Questions)*

BTW, gorgeous home!

A: We used an old-growth redwood that had been reclaimed from a decommissioned pickling factory. We used Sikkins over that.

**Q: beautiful stone on the walls and pillars** *(in Photo Questions)*

Who is the manufacturer of the stone on the wall? And what is the color?

A: That stone is limestone from one of our local quarries. The color is "buff" and the style is split-face in an ashlar pattern.

**Q: Is it a glass enclosed porch?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: No, the porch is screened; the screen is just very clear (and still pretty clean) in this picture, so isn't very visible.

**Q: Hardwood floors** *(in Photo Questions)*

Do you install new and/or replace hardwood flooring? We live south of Paragon. Thank you!

A: We do, but only in and around Bloomington. Feel free to email or call if you want to talk in more detail.

**Q: Kitchen counter top** *(in Photo Questions)*

What is the color, material and maintenance?

A: It is Quartz. The company is Ceasarstone and the color is "concrete 2003". Quartz is low to no maintenance.

**Q: Lights, flooring** *(in Photo Questions)*

Love the pendent lights! Details? Also , what's the flooring? Thanks,

A: The lighting is monorail track and components. We bent the track into the desired design by the homeowner, such that each pendant sits directly over the spots on the island and the pullout table that the client wanted. The flooring is a \#1 common Hickory.
