> We hired Inviting Spaces to do landscaping on the advice of our contractor, SethAnne Studios. We were renovating a small house for our retirement. The home was from an estate, and the yard had had little care for at least 20 years. The back yard grass area was "wet", and a slope was overgrown with ivy, azaleas and even poison ivy. 2 Silver maples were in bad shape.
> Our priorities were to have the water problem fixed, and the bones ( bushes, trees, shrubs, hardscape ) installed and a plan for smaller plants which we would install as we like to garden.
> Greg met with us several times after our initial meeting to refine and revise his initial ideas based on our input, and to reach an acceptable budget.
> His Manager, Dave also met with us to work out the schedule and how the work would be accomplished.
> Work that was done:
> 1\) The 2 silver maples were removed, all the ivy and plants on the slope were removed. Those overgrown azaleas from the front and back which were in good shape were moved to the side yard where overgrown roses and weed bushes were removed.
> 2\) A drainage system from the downspouts in the back and drywells were installed to control the runoff.
> 3\) A low wall was installed across the back of the yard to help control water from the slope, and provide a planting bed, and a circular wall around the existing Japanese Maple was installed.
> 4\) Other hardscape installed included a walkway from the back door, a small patio in the front of the house and in the back, a concrete pad and fencing for trash cans, and a concrete pad for a shed.
> 5\) Bushes were installed along the existing back fence, and a butterfly garden. Evergreen trees planted between us and our neighbor. In the front small trees, and flowering shrubs were installed. Mulch finished off all of the beds.
> 6\) Sod was installed for the front lawn and back lawn.
> We were extremely pleased with the communication, quality of work and the professionalism of Greg, Dave, and the workmen. They were efficient and finished the project in the time they had said they would. We highly recommend them.

> Inviting Spaces did a major project for us in which they transformed our backyard into a wonderful family space that includes an outdoor kitchen, a pool and a fireplace area with a TV. The workmanship is beautiful. We would hire Inviting Spaces again to do any outdoor project.

> Inviting spaces far exceeded the competition. Their initial design was superior to the other three companies my wife and I interviewed. They designed both our dream pool and outdoor kitchen. From design through completed construction we where taken care of every step of the way. I would highly recommend Inviting Spaces to anyone looking to design their dream project.

> Thanks to Greg and Dave, we can have vacation in our own backyard. We provided Greg with our vision and he put together a design that we never would have imagined. Our backyard is now a place where we not only enjoy in the summer, but all year round. Both Greg and Dave are definitely "people persons" and their main goal is to make sure their clients are satisfied.

**Comment from Inviting Spaces:**

> With great clients to work with like these, we are the lucky ones.

**★★★★★ — Joseph Zabel, March 2013**

> Greg and Dave, the owners of inviting Spaces, are great to work with. They offer, what I consider to be the best 3D lanacape designs in the Washington D C. area. They customize your project to best fit your lifestyle. Once the project is under way, they stay on top of the job and make sure it's completed in a timely manor with critical attention to detail.
>
> In the end, customers truly see their design come to life. And from what I've seen, customers become their friends. When dealing with projects on any scale, but particularly with large scale, high-end work, Greg and Dave are people you can trust.

**★★★★★ — Sue Smith, Feb. 2013**

> I had the pleasure of working with Greg Powell, Inviting Spaces, during the exterior renovations of my Country Home. Greg's designs, quality of construction and attention to detail are exceptional. Greg worked with me as he created "My Vision" for my property. Greg applied his knowledge and skills as he designed my Stone Patio, Stone Walkway and Gardens, which have added to the value of my property and are the "highlights and enjoyment" of my home. Greg and his partner, Dave Klonicke, are easy to work with and highly recommended! Please contact me if you have any questions, or need additional information on Inviting Spaces, Greg Powell and Dave Klonicke! Sue Smith, (703) 928-7860

## Community Q&A

**Q: What size are these posts? And what width is the cocktail rail? TY!** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: It's a 5/4 Ipe top rail and a 5" x 5" post wrap (custom) in Azek. We custom make the caps.

**Q: What is this fire place made of. Is it gas?** *(in Photo Questions)*

What are the details of this fireplace?

A: It's a gas insert with stainless trough and glass rock to cover the emitters. We constructed a stone box around the trough to make it look more in line with the design.

**Q: What is the make and color of the stone used for the walls and the pav** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: The vertical stone on this project is actually a cultured stone veneer to match the work done on the main house. It is a product from Owens Corning - Old Country Fieldstone - Riviera Color.
The pavers are from Hanover and are Chocolate/Tan Blend Appian Prest Pavers in a natural finish. The pattern is a fairly standard "K" pattern layout, but we installed it on a 45 deg angle with thermal bluestone borders on concrete to enhance the look.
Hope that helps!

**Q: What color of Zuri decking is on this porch?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: It is ipe oil natural finish (ipeoil.com), in direct sun, we made sure the client knows that it needs to be reapplied every six months to one year.

**Q: Look beautiful. What type of flooring?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Look beautiful. What type of flooring?

A: The terrace was designed using Walnut Travertine.

**Q: Beautiful!! can you tell me the dimensions of the pavilion? Thanks!** *(in Photo Questions)*

What stone is used on the decking? Love it!

A: The pavilion is 22’ wide and 18’ deep which was just wide enough for the large outdoor kitchen design.
