Houzz has been so wonderful to me and I'm so grateful for all the help and support because trust me I need it. When we bought the house in April I hated my kitchen cabinets because they were cream, but then when I started painting the house and the kitchen (powder blue by SW), I realized that the cream cabinets are gorgeous when surrounded by the right color. Because the walls were originally white, the cabinets looked dingy and green. Anyways my dilemma, I was debating whether or not I should continue the warm gray into the kitchen or leave the cabinets as is. If I continued the warm gray from the bay window area (breakfast nook) into the kitchen, I would want to change out the handles on the cabinets to a bronze color. I would love your opinions. I'm really liking the look of creamy kitchens :-) A: A stainless oven would be a great idea.....Jewelry for the kitchen :) **Q: I just bought this house. My house looks great but doesn't have the look like i want anymore. Id love to sell the home, everything I own, and move into a renovated loft but i don't see that happening. Id love to go modern and do light grays/dark grays and new throw rug. The couches are tan so i don't know how well everything will go. The whole house is this "tan" theme. Can tan/yellows mix with a modern style? Any suggestions on how i can update the look to look less kirklands and more modern? I have built modern tables from wood and black plumbers pipe, made pipe shelving, and will replace all wall hangings. Buying a new couch seems wastefull to me because these are still pretty new....minus the red wine spills from the ex A: In short .....less is more and bigger is better ! **Q: Wainscoating in dining room** *(in Design Dilemma)* Considering wainscoating in dining room, up to which height should I put it? A: The texbook answer is 38" to 42" .......however the real answer depends on your ceiling height,size of the over all room and the look you wish to achieve. I would suggest using painters tape to gauge exactly where you want your wainscoting....sounds lovely and any room looks better with " bone structure " **Q: Help, please! Frustrating family room!** *(in Design Dilemma)* I've been working on filling and decorating out family room since being newly painted and opened up in April. Now that the sofa, chairs, coffee and end tables are in place, I'm struggling to tie everything together. Hoping all the fabulous houzz readers can give me some much needed advice! A: Great room! Love your chandelier in the room adjacent to it and I really like the mill-work on the wall. What I would recommend is adding a paint color to that mill-work, like a soft grey ie the grey from the sofa or the paint color that is on the opposite wall. I would paint the upper and lower rectangles along that whole wall. I would also bring that chandelier glam into that wall by attaching some glam sconces within the rectangles flanking the Flat screen. As for the other two walls, I like your idea of adding mirrors in different shapes and finishes, maybe integrate a painting or two (similar to the themed art on the pillows) to add some symmetry. For the empty wall I would find an amazing piece of art filled with a balance of color and add some focal lighting to give it an Art Gallery feel. I would keep your toss pillows that you have but I would add some white ones behind them so they stand out from the grey couch. A room is all about balance, everything should speak each other.
