From day one, the project was a complete mess. The quality of the work was terrible, filled with mistake after mistake. The job involved installing a new door and replacing wood with PVC panels around the bay windows and the chimney box—a relatively simple project, one would think. However, it was anything but simple for Clarksville Construction. > > Find a better contractor and save yourself all these problems. If you know of any, please add them in the comments. Here is a list of some of the problems encountered. > > 1\. On the first day, the crew did not bring a generator, which caused the circuit breaker to trip repeatedly. > 2\. On the second day, a drill was left on top of the chimney, which was very dangerous. My neighbors noticed it. They also said the crew's performance led them to decide not to use Clarksville Construction for future projects. > 3\. I observed that a section of cracked 2x10 wood was used, despite my instructions to the crew not to use such materials. > 4\. Poorly hung plastic around the door allowed a significant amount of dust to enter the house. > 5\. Communication with the crew was very difficult. I can't imagine how anyone who doesn't speak any Spanish would manage. > 6\. The new door did not fit, necessitating the cutting of a section of the wall. > 7\. They failed to order a screen door and realized this 4 days into the job. > 8\. The crew worked on the door until almost 7 PM one evening, at which point I had to send them home. > 9\. There were dark marks on the entire chimney siding. > 10\. Scratches were noticed on the floor in the entryway. > 11\. There were marks on the interior wall next to the door. > 12\. A stain was found on the rug. > 13\. There was a 1.5-inch gap at the bottom of the chimney box. > 14\. The wrong screen door was ordered, delaying delivery by 2 more weeks. > 15\. Insulation was not properly installed under the window boxes, resulting in my furnace running continuously. The crew returned on February 6th, 2026, to address these issues. > 16\. I couldn't understand why there was water inside my glass storm door every time it rained. It turned out that the storm door was installed incorrectly. When the team came out, they said they would need to order a new door (again). After several weeks' delay because the initial order was damaged, the door finally arrived and was installed. It has been nearly one full year since the start of the project. When it rains again, I will be crossing my fingers, hoping it was installed correctly this time. How sad is that. Their pricing always comes in at the mid price and the estimate is spelled out with specific line items, so you know exactly what is included and what is not. She texted, called, emailed, followed up, etc almost every day and her follow up when things didn't go as planned was something to count on. We began the process of looking for a company to finish our basement in October of 2018. CCS was one of the companies that we solicited for an estimate. It had previously repaired some cracked joists in our basement so we had some prior--albeit limited--experience with the company. Our entire experience with CCS was phenomenal. The sales representative, Kevin, was easy to work with and listened to our "basement wants." He also suggested ideas for things we had not thought about to help our basement be highly functional such as putting in a large storage closet. Our experience with Kevin is a primary reason we decided to contract with CCS. Representatives from other companies did not always listen to us and rather did not want to give us the design we were seeking but what they thought would be best. Specifically, other officials did not want to give us a large laundry room even commenting that people don't want laundry rooms anymore. Once we signed the proposal, CCS assigned a project manager and assistant to our job who reached out to us and provided us with necessary information so that we could make our product selections prior to beginning the job. The assistant, Veronica was fantastic and was always responsive to our requests. She clearly laid out items that were within our allowance and those that would exceed an allowance to help ensure we stayed within our budget. Our project manager Fidel was extremely personable and kept us informed of the job progress. He listened to our needs, stopped by our home almost every day during construction, and always addressed any issues or concerns we had. We were amazed at how often Fidel solicited our input throughout the process to ensure our needs were met. We also dealt with a number of CCS staff and subcontractors such as Beth, Megan, and Marcus. They were all polite, professional, and helpful. When entering our home, the workers took care to minimize any damage or dirt and always cleaned up at the end of each day. As with any renovation, there were some issues, but CCS always took action to make it right. We have a beautiful finished basement where we love to go everyday to do laundry, workout, or obtain items from storage. I chose them because of the competent and educated estimator, Kevin Youngblood that came to my door to give me an estimate with listening ears and solid suggestions; their bid was fair and included a 5 year guarantee with their work. Their estimate was thorough and accurate. The project manager, Tom McHale was also extremely conscientious, personable and excellent with communicating & updating me with how things were going and any issues they ran into (since my house is really old). The craftsmen were excellent in their skills as well as friendly and respectful. I homeschool my daughter at home and was comforted beyond words to have been so fortunate to have respectful and competent construction workers in my home. My daughter got a whole new dimension to her home schooling! :-) The contractors became part of our family for the 3 months they were here. We were always happy to see them and they cleaned up so well every day. My home was not effected in its normal day to day activities, but instead was enhanced by the skilled, joyful and kind contractors that were working below us every day. \[I can't believe I just called contractors "joyful"!\] But they really were! > Since then, I have began decorating homes again and have referred them to several of my clients when they needed updating. They stored materials carefully so that we could park in half of our garage. Even before the project was done, they made sure we had working sinks so we could start using the kitchen again.
