We engaged their services to undertake the remodeling of two of our bathrooms, attracted by their claims of having a top-tier team and competitive pricing. Regrettably, our interactions with them have been far from satisfactory and closely resemble a bait-and-switch scenario, where the initial terms have drastically evolved from what was originally promised. > > At the outset, Bill from A-Z Improvements provided us with a project quote that we agreed upon. However, our optimism quickly turned sour when we received an email from Thomas, Bill's son, that demanded additional funds. The email stated: > "After reviewing your material selections with my father, these fixtures and varieties of tile are very high end, will require a lot of planning to ensure proper installation - additionally we will have to put our most skilled people on this project (which will delay things a bit as they are currently on different projects). We would have to request a change in the project price for an additional $7,500." > > The materials we had selected were sourced from build.com and were not extravagant by any means, perhaps only marginally more expensive than those found at Home Depot. > > What's particularly perplexing is the contradiction between their initial assertion of having the "best men" for the job and their subsequent revelation that they would have to bring in their "best men" due to the higher-grade materials we chose. This naturally prompts the question: Were they not deploying their top team from the outset? The clear implication is that their earlier proclamations were nothing more than hollow assurances. > > I strongly advise against hiring A-Z improvement for any project. Their lack of transparency, unethical pricing practices, and contradictory claims about their team's expertise make them an unreliable and untrustworthy choice. He came up with a redo that fit our budget and brought us up to date with bathroom trends. He worked with our schedule, and was very meticulous about the details inside and outside on every part of this total gut and redo bathroom project. We are thrilled with how it turned out, and thankful that he and his crew did professional and careful work while keeping our needs and the structure of the house in mind. As the work progressed, he suggested the best way to do it right, whether it be added insulation, tiles, ceiling fan, lighting, plumbing, accessories, and he even met with us at Lowe's so we could pick out the materials with his approval. Unfortunately, three times was “Not the Charm”. A project that was estimated to take three months lasted just under a year to complete. On many occasions, Workers did not arrive on time, as well as not show up for days or even weeks at a time, without so much as a phone call. Some of the workers were not as respectful of my home and failed to leave the home in a presentable condition, such as failing to clean up paint spills, leaving pain brushes in the sink, using tape that removed the paint from a NEW door, removing wiring around doors and failing to reattach, leaving/placing drink and food containers on newly installed HARD WOOD FLOORS, window sills and NEW FURNTURE, leaving work materials in back yard for months, etc. I have since outsourced pending open items to another contractor to resolve. **Comment from A to Z Improvements:** > Hi Janet, > > Thank you for your review. > We would like to address these issues that we were not aware of prior to this review; > 1\) Workers not arriving on time... due to the scale of this job, multiple sub-contractors were required, unfortunately due to inspection schedules that held us up for weeks, these sub-contractors had arranged other work during these delays, which subsequently caused even further delay. > 2\) Workers not respecting your home... This issue has not been addressed with us during the time of the work. Would we have been informed of this, we would have taken > immediate action to prevent this from happening. We were under the impression that everything was okay at the time. > We apologize for any hardship this may have caused you. We will use this as an example for our future projects to be more mindful when using certain sub-contractors. We appreciate you addressing these issues with us now, however if we were informed at the time of work we could have taken immediate action to prevent the above issues from re-occurring.
