> AJ has worked on two remodels for us. The first was low 6 figures and the 2nd was high 6 figures. These were completed in 2015 and 2018. We are now interviewing him to build our dreamhouse.
>
> We are considering hiring him a 3rd time because of these reasons.
>
> -He didn't change his bid.
> -The project was completed on time.
> -We had challenges on both jobs but AJ and his team were always easy to talk too. They made us feel like they were committed to making it right. And they did just that!
>
> If you are considering a construction project and want to work with someone who is going to honor their bid, the agreed upon contract term and finally someone that keeps their word than give them a call.

> This review is based upon my own personal experiences and my own personal opinions. Unfortunately, we did not have a good experience in working with Messer on our large scale home renovation. Our experience was personally very painful and difficult. In our opinion, the quality of work was disappointing by our standards. We feel the attention to detail, follow-through, and level of execution was inadequate. When we addressed these issues with Messer, we felt their response lacked respect and professionalism. I also felt that Messer did not have the desire to do the very best job possible and leave our house looking fantastic. Instead, it felt like they were rushing off the job and it seemed to us like they cut corners wherever they could. On various occasions, Messer gave conflicting reasons as to why our fireplace plaster was cracking around the firebox and as to why our fireplace has large gaps between it and the flooring. We proposed solutions acceptable to us to correct some of Messer’s most noticeable mistakes. Unfortunately, Messer was unwilling to correct these issues in a way that was suitable to us. They offered to add trim around the fireplace to hide the large gaps and trim around the fireplace box itself to hide the plaster that is cracking. We chose not to pursue this as we felt these were shortcuts that did not address the underlying issue of why the plaster is cracking in the first place. Overall, we feel unhappy with the work Messer performed. However, the worst part of this experience for us has been the contentious relationship with them. We have felt unheard and disrespected as clients of theirs. We feel we’ve been treated very poorly by MDC. Based on our experience and personal opinions, we do not recommend working with Messer. Given the opportunity, we would go back in time and work with another builder in a heartbeat. I'm more than happy to share all my photos and video evidence along with all our email communications to verify all my statements above.

**Comment from Messer Design + Construction:**

> We truly strive to please all of our clients but unfortunately on this project we have a client that is not pleased with our work despite the fact we did exemplary work on this project. This situation has now been handed over to our attorney for further handling since they hired a lawyer and made demands upon us. To this date, we have not been paid in full for this project. It is unfortunate that you have failed to miss the scheduled mediation and have since then failed to be available for the re-scheduled mediation.
> Messer DC has always had a stellar reputation in the community and we treat our Clients, Employees and Colleagues with utmost respect and kindness. In this situation, it is clear that our ideals do not align with this client. We simply want to be paid for all of our work and move on.
> Per the accusations above, the shower door enclosure was designed and approved by you and your Designer. Once it was installed, you did not like it. We paid for half of the shower glass enclosure out of pocket since you did not like it. We then offered to have it replaced with another shower glass enclosure of your choice and this is your response via email on 1/18/2023 “We wont be happy with a new shower glass option as the vendor you all use only has a few finishes for the shower door hardware and it wont match what we have”. So we provide 2 resolutions here: 1. We paid for half and 2. We tried to replace. Both were unsatisfactory.
> The fireplace has an applied venetian plaster and it requires a trim piece to meet the floor. This is a standard in the build community and we have tried to install it many times. You are unhappy because you wanted the venetian plaster to finish to the floor, which could have been done but it was not spec’d until the end of the project. Again, we have offered to install the trim work around the fireplace, redo that half of the plaster and install the steel trim around the firebox yet none of these reasonable proposed resolutions were acceptable to you.
> Regarding the “sloppy caulk and grout”, I personally walked the job site with you when the painter and the tile crew were wrapping up our third punch list trip with you to make sure you were satisfied and you said it was fine. We would have been more than happy to have them fix more if you would have asked. All the while, we still had not been paid in full but we continued to try and make you happy.
> You have a beautiful home that is now featured on your designer’s website that many people only dream of living in one day. We went above and beyond to make this situation better and it is clear that you simply did not want to pay us in full for our work, labor and materials.
> We would welcome anyone reading this review to please reach out to us and we would be more than happy to tour you through one of our many beautiful homes and connect you with current and past Clients who were exceedingly pleased with the quality of our work and craftsmanship. We also continue to be referred to clients by the Designer and Architect on this project.

> Looking for a professional, honest, hard working company to do your interior/exterior remodel or a new build altogether, you have come to the right place. AJ Messer Design + Construction has years of experience in both design and building and will bring any space that is lacking to life. I will never go to another company for my remodel needs.

**★★★★★ — jessicastathos, June 2015**

> Messer Design + Construction is the best! They are creative, great to work with and wonderful all around. It is hard to find dependable companies to work with, and AJ is the epitome of respect. Always on top of everything, keeping the client informed, responding to questions and offering suggestions on what he thinks is best versus just going along with what the client wants. I recommend them to everyone looking for a custom build or a remodel.
